Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who provides a phony USB recording of Jess Valenzuela to FBI Agent Ross in which Jess seemingly confesses to murdering Peter Sadusky?

Answer: Myles, Peter's nurse

The episode begins with Peter Sadusky's former nurse, Myles, providing a USB device to FBI Agent Ross. In the phony recording, Jess and Peter Sadusky have an argument and then Jess makes threats and seemingly kills him. A later scene shows Myles being wired a $150,000 payment via Bitcoin. However, he declines this payment and then has a change of heart to not assist Billie any longer.
2. What does Jess tell her friends she would typically have to apply for if she intended to come back to the United States after going to Mexico?

Answer: Advanced parole

Jess is a part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in which she is able to live in the USA without official immigration status. However, if she were to leave the USA, she would typically not be allowed back into the USA unless she had obtained an advanced parole beforehand. Knowing that time is of the essence, Jess takes the risk of going to Mexico without obtaining an advanced parole.
3. Which of Jess's friends has 'in case of' boxes of shoe containers that included one for when Jess was in danger of being deported?

Answer: Oren

Oren is an avid collector of shoes seemingly having a pair for any occasion. However, some of his shoe boxes have labels like "in case of hurricanes", "in case of a zombie apocalypse" and "in case Jess is in danger of being deported". Inside Jess's box are a pair of glasses and a change of clothes for Jess that they take down to Mexico to change her appearance somewhat.
4. After hearing the use of what word from the recording that incriminates Jess does Ethan tell FBI Agent Ross that he knows it is a fake?

Answer: Further

Ethan visits Agent Ross to tell her that he has known Jess for years and he knows her character and that she wouldn't commit murder. However, Agent Ross tells Ethan that the FBI has analyzed the recording and has determined it is genuine. When Ethan hears the recording and the use of the word 'further', he knows that it is not really Jess's voice but some kind of program mimicking her voice. Ethan explains that people of British heritage like Billie use the word further whereas Jess would never use the word further but instead would use the word farther.

Interestingly, later in the episode Billie meets Agent Ross and she tells her "I hope your next lead doesn't take you even further away from home".
5. After interacting with a merchant to buy clothes, who makes the comment "I'm too Mexican for the U.S. and too American for Mexico"?

Answer: Jess

Jess speaks Spanish to a clothing merchant in Mexico and the lady selling to her tells her that she speaks English if she's more comfortable speaking it. Not sure how to respond, Jess continues the conversation in English and purchases from the merchant.

Afterwards, Jess tells her friends "I'm too Mexican for the U.S. and too American for Mexico" indicating that she doesn't totally feel at home in either country.
6. Although she enters the Santiago Apostol Penitentiary seeking to speak to Salazar, who is Jess shocked to find is posing as Salazar?

Answer: Her father, Rafael

When Jess was a baby, her father Rafael had double-crossed a man named Salazar. Jess and her mother moved to the United States and thought that Rafael was killed in a fire by Salazar's men. Twenty years later, Jess goes back to Mexico to continue her father's search for Mesoamerican treasure. Thinking that she must ally with Salazar, Jess goes to the prison where he was supposedly being held.

However, when Jess is on the phone speaking to Salazar, the man speaking to her tells her he is Rafael, her father. Jess doesn't believe him but eventually realizes it is her father after he confirms personal information.
7. At the Santiago Apostol Penitentiary, Jess receives a clue from the man posing as Salazar. After they decode the clue, where do Jess and her friends go?

Answer: A convent

Jess's father Rafael tells her to go to "the place where the first Queen of Spain met with Saint Jerome and passed notes". He had to give her the location cryptically because guards are listening to conversations at the prison. Jess and her friends figure out that the clue leads them to an intersection of two streets (Queen Isabella and San Jeronimo).

At this intersection is a convent that Jess and her friends believe is the location of a Mesoamerican relic.
8. Sometimes called the first feminist of the New World, who was responsible for hiding the lapis lazuli relic from the conquistadors?

Answer: Sor Juana

Jess and her friends uncover that the third relic is located at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, formerly the San Jerónimo Convent. Sor Juana was a talented nun, poet, writer and composer and she helped protect the Mesoamerican treasures as a member of the Daughters of the Plumed Serpent.
9. Where do Jess and her friends find the lapis lazuli relic?

Answer: Organ pipe

Jess and her friends figure out that the notes referenced in Rafael's clue referred to music notes. After Tasha plays "Duerme Preciosa Nina" on the organ at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, one of the organ pipes turns revealing a panel. Jess opens the panel and finds the lapis lazuli relic inside.
10. What does Jess declare she is going to do at the end of the episode?

Answer: Break someone out of prison

After Billie finds out that Jess's father Rafael is still alive, Jess fears for his safety. Jess tells her friends that Billie will try to have him killed and that she has to break her father out of prison before Billie can get to him.
