Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Harry Anderson

Harry Anderson played Harry the Hat on six episodes of "Cheers." The first three were all during the first season. Then he had one appearance each during seasons two, six, and eleven. His character was also known as Harry Gittes.

In the episode, "Pick a Con...Any Con" which aired near the end of season one, he also has a special technical advisor credit.

Like his character on "Night Court," and just as he is in real life, Harry the Hat, is a magician, which allows him to be an amazing con artist. Sam was constantly throwing him out of the bar, but then he would bail him out of jail and bring him back to the bar when he needed Harry to pull off a con for the bar's benefit.

Sadly, Harry Anderson passed away on April 16, 2018, following a stroke.
2. Dan Hedaya

Dan Hedaya played Nick Torteli, the ex-husband of Carla Tortelli. He appeared in six episodes of "Cheers." He was in one episode in season two, two episodes of season three, one in season four, one in season five, and one in season eleven. Along with him, it was also Jean Kasam's first episode, who played his second wife, Loretta. Nick was a sleazy man who cheated on Carla during their marriage, which is what eventually led to their divorce. He is the father of her first five children: Anthony, Seraphina, Gino, Anne Marie, and Lucia.

In 1987, Hedaya (along with Kasam) was on a very briefly lived spin-off of "Cheers" called "The Tortellis," which only lasted for thirteen episodes.
3. Kate Mulgrew

Kate Mulgrew only appeared on three episodes of "Cheers." They were the last three of season three in a three-part finale. She played Councilwoman Janet Eldridge, who was running for reelection. They were aired three separate weeks, so I counted them as three separate appearances. I counted her because this was a significant point in "Cheers" as the final appearance ended with a famous proposal over the phone, in which who was proposed to was revealed in season four.
4. Frances Sternhagen

Frances Sternhagen played Esther Clavin, Cliff Clavin's mother. She appeared on "Cheers" seven times. She appeared once in seasons five, six, and nine. She appeared twice in seasons ten and eleven.

Esther knows a lot of random trivia like her son, but she is better liked and respected than Cliff at the bar. Cliff has the most issues with her and finds her a bit too smothering yet he continues to live with her most of the show's run.
5. Jay Thomas

Jay Thomas played, Guy "Eddie" Le Bec. Carla met him in "Never Love a Goalie: Part 1," when he came into the bar for a drink. The two hit it off, and started dating. Eddie, who was a goalie for the Boston Bruins (on the show, not a real-life Bruin) started performing badly on the ice, Carla decides she is a jinx and breaks up with him. He does better, which only reinforced her theory that she was a jinx. She then breaks up with him again before the next game so she can date him and he can still do well. Eventually, he gets her pregnant with twins, and the two end up getting married.

Jay Thomas was only on nine episodes of "Cheers." He was on two in season five, five in season six, and two in season seven. Unfortunately, he commented on having to kiss Rhea Perlman on the radio (he called it "brutal"), and Perlman happened to hear it. She told James Burrows, and Thomas was fired from the show. Eddie's character was killed off. During the beginning of season six he lost his job with the Bruins and got a job on an ice show as a dancing penguin. He saved another ice skater's life by pushing them out of the way of the Zamboni machine, and it hit Eddie instead. It was then revealed at the funeral, Eddie had another wife.

Sadly, Jay Thomas died on August 24, 2017, at age 69 from throat cancer.
6. Tom Skerritt

Tom Skerritt appeared as Evan Drake in six episodes all in the sixth season. Drake was Rebecca's boss, whom she was in love with. He however had no clue how she felt and thought she was an insane lesbian. She later convinces Sam to pretend to be her boyfriend so at least Drake knows she likes men. Drake leaves for a promotion in Japan, and Rebecca never tells him how she feels.

Tom Skerritt is best known for his role as Sheriff Jimmy Brock during the four seasons of "Picket Fences" which ran from 1992-1996.
7. Jackie Swanson

Jackie Swanson played Kelly Susan Gaines (later Boyd) on three episodes in season seven, three in season eight, two in season nine, six in season ten, and ten in season eleven. Kelly was Nash's (played by Tyone Power Jr in the "Golden Boy" episode") girlfriend. Woody took her out to get back at Nash who insulted Woody just because Nash was rich and Woody wasn't. However, he and Kelly hit it off, and she decided she liked Woody better than Nash. In that episode Woody and Nash had a fight at the bar, where Nash beats the snot out of him, so Woody tells her, "I know what you mean, I didn't have a lot of fun with Nash either."

Kelly went on in the season ten finale to marry Woody. In season eleven, in the episode "Woody Gets an Election" in which Woody runs for City Councilman, Kelly reveals she is pregnant.
8. Roger Rees

Roger Rees appeared 11 times in season eight, five times in season nine, and once in season eleven as billionaire (or former billionaire) Robin Colcord. Robin was Rebecca's boyfriend in seasons eight and nine. She left him at the altar in the season nine episode, "Wedding Bell Blues" after declaring to him, "I only loved you for your money." It turned out he has six million dollars in a money belt under a drawer of her desk.

In the final episode in which Rees appeared as Robin, Robin was now penniless. He gave away everything he had and got his food by stealing or begging for it. Rebecca thought it was a joke to see if she would love him if he didn't have money so she played along.

Robin Rees was an accomplished Shakespearean actor as well. He is also well known for having played the Sheriff of Rottingham in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." He sadly passed away from cancer, on July 10, 2015.
9. Keene Curtis

Keene Curtis played John Allen Hill in fifteen episodes of "Cheers" in the last three seasons. He was in five during season nine, four in season ten, and six in season eleven.

Hill bought Melville's, the Seafood restaurant, upstairs from "Cheers." Hill and Sam do not get along, and there is instant feuding between the two. In a later episode, Carla tries to get Hill for Sam but instead sleeps with him, and while it is meant to be a one-time thing, it turns out she really likes him. In fact, she has such strong feelings for him that when Hill has a heart attack, Carla breaks down crying at work.

Keene passed away, sadly, on October 13, 2002, at age 79 due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease.
10. Anthony Cistaro

Anthony Cistaro (born in Kirksville, Missouri, USA) played Frenchman Henri in five episodes of "Cheers." He was in three episodes of season nine, one in season ten, and one in season eleven.

Kelly, Woody's girlfriend, brought Henri back to Boston when she returned from Europe. He continuously would make jokes about stealing her from Woody. He goes so far as to pretend he is being deported in one episode to get Kelly to agree to marry him. Still, Woody guesses that he's trying to steal her away again and is amazed when Henri confesses that Woody guessed.

In his last appearance, he fills in for Woody at Cheers while Woody and Kelly are on their honeymoon. Henri challenges Sam to see who is the best ladies' man by seeing who can get the most telephone numbers from women by midnight. Sam, who is changing, refuses until Henri makes it a grudge match between France and the United States.
