Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After being imprisoned on a ship, engaging in a mutiny, and stealing an escape boat, Daryl Dixon washes up on a beach in what European region?

Answer: Normandy

France is where the zombie virus originated in "The Walking Dead." The French scientists were, according to Dr. Jenner in season one of the original series, the "last to hold out" in the fight against the virus. Daryl Dixon speaks no French, but he encounters enough English-speaking characters to get by.

He washes up on the beach at Normandy, where, the audience later learns, his own grandfather died during World War II.
2. In a flashback in season one of "Daryl Dixon," who tells Daryl, through the radio, that a mysterious someone has come back?

Answer: Carol

Daryl is able to briefly reach Carol on the radio. They ask after one and other, and then she says, "Hey, Daryl!" But her transmission is cut-off by static and the next few words are obscured, ending in "came back." Daryl asks who came back, but the transmission is lost. At the time the episode aired, speculations included Rick, Michonne, Morgan, Dwight, and Dog.

Melissa McBride was originally set to co-star as Carol in the spin-off, but due to logistical issues, she dropped out of the season one production. Season two of the show, however, is titled "The Book of Carol."
3. Daryl encounters a new kind of walker in the first episode of "Daryl Dixon." What are these walkers known as?

Answer: burners

Called "burners" or "boilers," one of these walkers burns Daryl's arm simply by touching him. When a "burner" is stabbed or pierced, smoke emits from its body. Burn wounds from a "burner" are cauterized to prevent spread of the infection.
4. What is the name of the nun Daryl encounters, who nurses his wounds and asks him to assist in a special mission?

Answer: Isabelle

Played by Clémence Poésy, Isabelle Carriere is a former drug addict and thief who has become a nun in the post-apocalyptic world. She is the aunt of Laurent and the head of a semi-Catholic, syncretic religious group with some of its own mythology.
5. A twelve-year-old boy is considered the Messiah in the mythology of the people Daryl encounters and aids. Who turns out to be the boy's father?

Answer: Quinn

Quinn was Isabelle's lover before the apocalypse, but she left him to safeguard her pregnant sister Lilly. The audience later learns that Quinn was the one who impregnated Lilly with Laurent, who is born after his mother turns into a walker. Laurent, because of his unusual birth and the need for hope in a post-apocalyptic world, comes to be regarded as a future Messiah. Quinn kidnaps his own son and uses him to try to get Isabelle to return to him.
6. In the first season of "Daryl Dixon," Daryl finds himself at odds with what paramilitary group?

Answer: Pouvoir des Vivants

Union de L'Espoir, or "Union of Hope," is a resistance group that believes Laurent to be the Messiah. Laurent--and the hope belief in him inspires--is seen as a threat to the Pouvoir des Vivants, or "The Power of the Living," a paramilitary group that maintains a tyrannical society under the dictatorship of a woman named Genet.
7. What is unusual about the priest, Father John, in "Daryl Dixon"?

Answer: The priest is a walker.

Shortly after Daryl arrives in the convent, Laurent tells him it's "poetry time" with Père Jacques (Father John). Daryl later finds Laurent reading aloud to the walker-turned-priest, who is kept alive in a cell, through which he reaches, gnashing, toward Laurent. Laurent is played by Louis Puech Scigliuzzi.
8. What is the Demimonde in season one of "Daryl Dixon"?

Answer: An underground nightclub

The Demimonde is an underground nightclub in Paris run by Quinn, a British resident of France and the father of Laurent. Quinn is played by Adam Nagaitis. Demimonde is a term used, according the Merriam-Webster, to refer to "a class of women on the fringes of respectable society supported by wealthy lovers."
9. In season one of "Daryl Dixon," Daryl is trying to get his young charge to safety in a camp called what?

Answer: The Nest

The Sanctuary was the headquarters of the Saviors in the original "Walking Dead" series, where the Kingdom served as the home of King Ezekiel. The hideout where the Union of Hope holds up in "Daryl Dixon" is called the Nest, and it is Daryl's mission to bring Laurent, who has grown up as the only male child in a convent full of nuns, safely there.
10. In season one of "Daryl Dixon," what weapon does Daryl use to kill the first walker that is released to attack him in the arena?

Answer: A flagpole

The walker released on Daryl has been experimented upon by the Pouvoir des Vivants, making it particularly fast and deadly. While Daryl is initially given a battle axe to fight with, he loses that weapon and ends up pulling a French flag off the wall and using the sharpened end of the pole to kill the walker.
