Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before she and her husband had their own show, Cher was a guest star on "Laugh-In." Which of these did she play in a skit?

Answer: A Native American woman

In a skit in which they do a sequel to a sequel, they presented the previous week to the movie "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." Guest star Flip Wilson plays the Sidney Poitier character, and Judy Carne plays the Katharine Houghton character. It is 20 years after they are married. Henry Gibson plays their son, and he is getting married to a Native American woman, played by Cher.
2. "Here come the Judge. Here come the Judge." Who played the Judge?

Answer: Sammy Davis, Jr.

He appeared as a guest star on "Laugh-In" almost every season.

He would come out singing "Here come the Judge," wearing a judge's robe and a fake powdered wig. This was followed by a skit featuring another person playing a judge in the skit.
3. Which future president guest starred on a season-two episode of "Laugh-In" as himself in a brief cameo?

Answer: Richard Nixon

On the season two premiere episode that first aired on September 16, 1968, during the "Sock It to Me" time, Judy Carne pretends to talk to former New York Governor Rockefeller, "I don't think we could get Mr. Nixon to stand still for a Sock it to me."

Richard Nixon then appears and asks, "Sock it to me?"

At the time, Nixon was campaigning for the presidency as he was the Republican candidate running against Democrat Hubert Humphrey and Independent George Wallace. He won the November '68 presidential elections, and on January 20, 1969, he was sworn in as the 37th president of the United States of America.
4. Reverend Billy Graham guest starred on a season two episode of the show. He said, "The family watches 'Laugh-In' together really needs to _________ together."

Answer: pray

The cast of "Laugh-In" stated they behaved better when Reverend Billy Graham was on the set than at any other time during the run of the show. Billy Graham has said he got flack from some people for appearing on the show, but he felt that by being on the show, he was letting people know he was just an average human being like everyone else.

He also pointed out that Jesus sat among the sinners.
5. In a season three episode, 3/4 of the Monkees appeared on "Laugh-In." Which one wasn't there?

Answer: Peter Tork

Davy Jones also appeared in a season two episode, but this is the first time the group appeared together as The Monkees on the show. However, Peter Tork was not there because this episode aired in October 1969, and Peter Tork left the group shortly after their Far East tour in December 1968. He bought out his contract by paying $150,000 annually for the last four years he had left.
6. Which Beatle guest starred on "Laugh-In"?

Answer: Ringo

Ringo introduced himself as "Peter Sellars. Tonight, I will be in the role of Ringo Starr" during the cold opening. Gary Owens then introduces him the same way at the start of the show.

When Ringo is talking to Alan Sues, and Alan asks Ringo what his favorite hit record is, Ringo responds, "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Alan then holds Ringo's hand and asks the question again.
7. Which famous author who wrote "Breakfast at Tiffany's" made a rare appearance on a season four episode of "Laugh-In"?

Answer: Truman Capote

Capote introduces hosts Dan Rowan and Dick Martin at the beginning of the show.

Here is an interesting fact about Truman Capote and his novel "Breakfast at Tiffany's." When Capote was trying to get it published, one publisher told him he obviously did not do his research because Tiffany's was a jewelry store and did not serve breakfast.
8. What famous actor did a poem on the 100th-anniversary episode in the style of Henry Gibson about joining the Marines?

Answer: John Wayne

The poem went: "The sky is blue, the grass is green, get off your butts and join the Marines."
Henry Gibson was a regular cast member known for doing these short little poems while holding a flower. Gibson and many other regulars returned for the anniversary episode special.

Near the beginning of the episode, he is introduced to Tiny Tim, and as a joke, when he shakes Tiny Tim's hand, he goes to his knees as if Tiny Tim is so much stronger. (If you are not familiar with Tiny Tim, he was a ukulele player and singer, very odd and very skinny.)

John Wayne won an Oscar in 1970 for Best Actor for playing Rooster Cogburn in "True Grit." He famously said (about the eye patch he wore in the movie) when he won the award, "If I knew that (he would win), I would have put on that patch 35 years ago."
9. What football player nicknamed "Broadway Joe" guest starred on "Laugh-In"?

Answer: Joe Namath

Joe Namath was a quarterback with the New York Jets from 1965 until 1976. He played with the LA Rams in 1977 before he retired.

In one scene, Ruth Buzzi's character, Gladys, has fallen asleep on the park bench and dreams she is in an apartment with Joe Namath. He is sitting on a couch surrounded by beautiful women doting on him. She dreams she is married to him and is sitting on the end of the sofa wearing a football helmet and holding a football. She tells him either the girls go, or she goes, and he replies, "And don't think I won't miss you."
10. Who was the ear-pulling, Tarzan-yelling lady that appeared on "Laugh-In" in its final season?

Answer: Carol Burnett

Many consider Carol Burnett one of the funniest women ever on TV. She had her own variety show, "The Carol Burnett Show," from 1967-1978. If you didn't get the hint about Vicki Lawrence, Lawrence got her start on "The Carol Burnett Show" because she looked like Carol Burnett.

In "Laugh-In," she plays a hillbilly woman who breaks the radio her family is listening to because she doesn't want them listening to trash like that. Then one of them asks if she can put it on Oral Roberts.
