Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Grants a piercing bite attack that lasts until the next Long Rest.

Answer: A Mother's Loathing

This is, in essence, Astarion's Vampire Bite, minus the self-heal and the affliction of Bloodless to the target. That is to say, the player can use this attack once as a Free Action, and then they can't use it again. Long Resting is require to regain access to the bite, but the act of taking a Long Rest will also undo A Mother's Loathing, removing the bite attack entirely.
2. Grants +2 to Strength until next Long Rest, then permanently reduces Strength by 1 after.

Answer: Broken Promises

This is a potion that seems strictly horrible on paper. And, for 99% of the game, it is. However, the player could get around the horrible side effect by simply saving this potion for the very final boss fight of the entire game. Then, they'd benefit from the +2, and since the game is about to end, they won't have any game to be played to suffer the permanent -1.
3. Causes the drinker to take piercing damage at the end of every turn for the next five turns.

Answer: Butterflies in the Stomach

This can potentially be severely crippling if consumed in the middle of a fight against a difficult foe. Otherwise, it is incredibly annoying, but is actually one of the more tame, less awful potions in Ethel's collection.
4. Imposes disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws until the next Long Rest.

Answer: Faltering Will

This one can be really nasty to deal with, as Wisdom saving throws are usually used to resist highly dangerous utility debuff spells, such as Charm Person, Hold Person or Tasha's Hideous Laughter.
5. Grants an immunity to Poison until the next Long Rest.

Answer: Heart of Stone

One of few, actually beneficial tonics made by Auntie Ethel, this one could come in quite handy for Act 3 in particular if held onto for that long.
6. Causes the drinker to turn on nearby allies, becoming hostile for either four or five turns.

Answer: Insanity's Kiss

To players not knowing how to toggle Non-Lethal Attacks on and off, this tonic can very easily get partymates killed. In that sense, this is arguably the very worst potion Auntie Ethel made of all.
7. Reduces AC by 2 and disables Reactions for 50 turns.

Answer: Lost Time

This tonic makes the drinker unbelievably vulnerable in combat, though it thankfully at least has no lasting effects and can be easily stalled out by simply being out of combat and going AFK for five whole minutes (10 secs = 1 turn, 5 mins = 50 turns).
8. Reduces the drinker's Wisdom by 1 until their next Long Rest.

Answer: Lover's Avarice

This tonic is so bad that it actually used to be worse and necessitated Larian Studios nerfing an item in a PvE game, to give an idea. On release, this item permanently reduced Wisdom by 1. It was modified to where the reduction is only in effect until the next Long Rest.
9. Imposes disadvantage on everything the drinker can possibly do for three turns.

Answer: Missing Pets

This is a truly bizarre concoction. On top of the effect obviously being severely debilitating, the drinker will also visually see a trio of illusionary Giant Spiders running in a slow circle around them until the effect wears off.
10. Deals significant Psychic damage the next time the drinker takes a Long Rest

Answer: Wilted Dreams

This one is less crippling than it is just plain annoying to deal with. Long Rests are usually taken with the interest of freely healing the party back to full. Wilted Dreams, one single time, makes this impossible. The drinker will immediately take 3D6 Psychic damage the moment the Long Rest concludes, ensuring they are not at full health.
11. Deals Poison damage to the drinker every single turn until they pass a Constitution saving throw

Answer: Boon of the Hag

Although tremendously unlikely to actually happen, it is possible for the drinker to continuously fail their saving throw over and over and over again, meaning this tonic is technically the only one of Ethel's stock that can theoretically last forever. Of course, DC13 Con save is absolutely going to be beaten before terribly long. But, particularly unlucky players may suffer quite a bit if they consume this one.
