Don't be amazed by the capitalization of several terms. I've capitalized the terms used in the game for specific notions, that may sometimes differ from the common meaning of the word in real life (for instance Food in "Civilization VI" is a specific quantity of Resources needed to feed your Citizens, and not what your chef serves you). This quiz is based on the standard pack of "Civilization VI" plus the Aztec extension.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. O No Yasumaro

Answer: Great Prophet

Any Great Prophet can found a Religion - and the Religion you choose has not to be the religion with which the real-history prophet is connected, nor the Religion typical of your Civilization.

The real-history O No Yasumaro was a Japanese nobleman, who gained world fame for writing the "Kojiki", a first history of Japan. He died in 723 AD. Real history doesn't connect Yasumaro with any religion, but apparently he is intended to represent Shintoism, the predominant Japanese religion in his time period.
2. Songtsan Gampo

Answer: Great Prophet

Songtsan Gampo is a Great Prophet whom I link to Buddhism, as the real-history Gampo (601-683) was a famous king of Tibet. The real king Songtsen Gampo (the predominant English transliteration does not correspond exactly with the transliteration in "Civilization VI") is credited with introducing Mahayana Buddhism to Tibet, and he has ordered the construction of a palace in Lhasa - which thousand years later was utterly destroyed, and upon the ruins of which the famed Potala Palace was constructed.

By the way, in "Civilization VI" you can build the Potala Palace as a World Wonder.
3. Madhva Acharya

Answer: Great Prophet

"Civilization VI" allows you to recruit the Indian Great Prophet Madhva Acharya, to found any Religion you want.

In real life, Mahdvacharya (1199-1278) was an Indian philosopher. He wrote several dozens of works that defended a dualist vision of Hinduism, with a fundamental difference between the Atman (the worldly) and the Brahman (the Divine).
4. Homer

Answer: Great Writer

A Great Writer produces (of course) Great Works of Writing. When you recruit any Great Writer, he or she can be put to work to give your Civilization two Great Works of Writing. The Greek Homer is one of the first Great Writers you can recruit, and he'll produce the Iliad and the Odyssey.

These two epic poems are by far the best known works by the real-history Homer, who lived sometime in the Eighth Century BC - well before the Classical period in which several Greek city-states fought bravely against the Persians.
5. Geoffrey Chaucer

Answer: Great Writer

One of the earliest English Great Writers you can recruit, is Geoffrey Chaucer. He can grant your Civilization the "Canterbury Tales" and "Troilus and Criseyde".

In real life, Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400) wrote "Troilus and Criseyde" before his masterpiece "The Canterbury Tales". His other writings are far less known.
6. Edgar Allan Poe

Answer: Great Writer

One of the earliest American Great Writers you can recruit, is Edgar Allan Poe. He grants your Civilization the Great Works of Writing "The Raven" and "The Tell-Tale Heart".

In real life, Poe (1809-1849) was indeed best known for his poem "The Raven". As for his short stories, the game developers have selected "The Tell-Tale Heart" but could also have chosen one of his other less famous stories: "The Black Cat", "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" or "The Cask of Amontillado".
7. El Greco

Answer: Great Artist

A Great Artist is a person known for his contributions to the classic visual arts (painting and sculpture, but also etchings and woodcarvings come into mind). Great Artists can grant you three of their masterpieces. If you are looking for a Spanish Great Artist in "Civilization Vi", you end up with El Greco. He'll paint for you the Religious works "Adoration of the Magi" and "Assumption of the Virgin" and the landscape "View of Toledo"

In real life, El Greco (1541-1614) has links with at least three different civilizations. He was born as Domenikos Theotokopoulos on Crete, nowadays a Greek island and in his lifetime colonized by Venice. El Greco worked most of his life in Toledo, nowadays Spain.
8. Claude Monet

Answer: Great Artist

The Great Artist Claude Monet can be recruited to grant you three paintings: "Waterlilies", "Impression: Sunrise" and "Haystack at Giverny".

In real life, Claude Monet (1840-1926) was one of the leading French Impressionist painters. You can visit a museum in his house at Giverny, and admire the gardens he liked to paint in his last years. While "Impression: Sunrise" is a unique work of his, he made several versions of both the "Waterlilies" and the "Haystack at Giverny".
9. Andrei Rublev

Answer: Great Artist

For Russia, the game developers have chosen the Great Artist Andrei Rublev, who can grant your civilization three Religious Great Works of Art: "Annunciation", "Saviour in Glory" and "Ascension".

In real life, Rublev (1360-1430) was a Russian iconographer living near Moscow but highly influenced by the Byzantine art.
10. Johann Sebastian Bach

Answer: Great Musician

A Great Musician will of course create some Great Works of Music for your Civilization once you recruit him. German Great Musicians include Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig von Beethoven.

Bach will create for you: the "Little Fugue in G Minor" and "Cello Concerto n° 1 in G Major".

In real life, J.S. Bach (1685-1750) was a German Baroque composer, best known for his works on early keyboard instruments as the church organ and the harpsichord. Arguably his best known works, the "Toccata and Fugue in D Major" and the "Matthaeus passion" are not included in the game.
11. Juventino Rosas

Answer: Great Musician

Rosas (1868-1894) was a Mexican composer and violinist.

After recruiting Rosas, he will grant your Civilization his two of his waltzes: "Sobra las Olas" ("Over the Waves") and "Carmen".

In real life, Juventino Rosas composed several different dances: waltzes, polkas, mazurkas and others.
12. Antonio Vivaldi

Answer: Great Musician

"Civilization Vi" had of course to include at least one Italian Great Musician. To that end, Antonio Vivaldi can be recruited and will compose for you "Winter" from "The Four Seasons" and "Concerto La Notte", but not his most famed "Spring" from "Four Seasons".

In real life, Vivaldi (1678-1741) was a Venetian priest and composer, best remembered especially for stringed instruments - although he also created over fifty operas.
