Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As soon as the player arrives to Earthen Peak, they can find an important NPC resting atop a small hill which oversees most of the area ahead of the player. Who is this?

Answer: Chloanne, Stone Trader

Upon exhausting her dialogue, Chloanne will return to Majula. Thankfully, this has no prerequisites apart from simply going through all of Chloanne's dialogue. Initially, she will only sell a few infusion stones, a Bonfire Ascetic and a couple of very gimmicky spells, but her selection will increase as the player progresses through the game.
2. As it happens, interacting with the first NPC in Earthen Peak and whisking them away to Majula is causing an awkward family reunion. Who in Majula is directly related to this NPC?

Answer: Lenigrast

Lenigrast is Chloanne's father. Speaking with both of them largely implies that she came to Majula to search for rare and valuable stones, and her father followed her here without her knowing to ensure her safety. Due to both of them being impacted by the Undead Curse, neither of them actually recall why they are here, however.
3. Right after our first new coming NPC, some exploration of the Poison Pools and checking out an early area cave can cause the player to meet with an NPC they would've last seen in No Man's Wharf. Who is this?

Answer: Gavlaan

Gavlaan is back, ready to wheel and deal. When spoken and interacted with here, he will then move to the Doors of Pharros where he will permanently remain.
4. Though well hidden, there is a covenant to be joined in the Harvest Valley. Which one is it?

Answer: Heirs of the Sun

Heirs of the Sun is clearly a callback to Solaire of Astora from "Dark Souls 1", inarguably the most beloved NPC from that game and maybe just the entire franchise as well. Upon joining it, the player will earn the iconic "Praise the Sun!" emote.
5. Before the player can start to really enter the meat and bones of Harvest Valley, they'll be quickly and thoroughly assaulted by a wide barrage of fire that threatens to end them quickly. This is a nice Segway to introduce an incredibly dangerous enemy who will be a recurring assailant for the future. Who is this?

Answer: Desert Sorceress

Desert Sorceresses are extremely deadly. They have a wide variety of lethal Pyromancies that do tons of damage up close and far away. Fortunately, they wear basically no armor or clothing in general, and thus do go down quickly once they're hit- but hitting them at all without dying often tends to be the main point of contention when dealing with them.
6. The boss of Harvest Valley is arguably the easiest boss in not just the entire game, but all of From Software history. Who is it?

Answer: Covetous Demon

Covetous Demon poses such an astonishingly small amount of threat that the player could easily beat him with their bare fists. He moves so embarrassingly slow that one could bake a batch of cookies in the time it actually takes for him to kill the player.

Moreover, his healthpool is quite small, and he can even be distracted by shooting one of a handful of jars overhead, causing a hollow to fall out that he will go over to gorge himself on, all while the player can attack him freely. It's almost as if From Software intended for this fight to be a total joke, because the extent to how easy this fight is is historic. Seriously, even Pinwheel from "Dark Souls 1" can actually kill the player surprisingly quickly if they actually let him, but Covetous Demon is just pathetic. And maybe a tad funny on top of that.
7. Though pathetic in difficulty, Harvest Valley's boss soul can actually be turned into a strong weapon. What one is this?

Answer: Bone Scythe

The Bone Scythe gets a surprisingly massive A in Strength even when unupgraded. Though it is a scythe and has a very awkward moveset much like it's brethren, this aspect alone allows the Bone Scythe to outclass its peers, with the exception of the Scythe of Want.
8. Once the player has cleared Harvest Valley, it's time to run through Earthen Peak. They won't have to do it alone, as a particularly powerful NPC can be summoned fairly early on. Who is this?

Answer: Devotee Scarlett

Scarlett is the strongest NPC in this game, hands down. If her AI allowed it, she could solo the entire map, including the boss, and have plenty of health to spare. She has an infinite amount of poise, massive healthpool, does decent enough damage, comes with multiple Estus Flasks and even Miracles to heal both herself and the player with.

As a cherry on top, she will even guide the player through the area and point out an important side objective as they pass it. It's seriously almost as if playing with a real life friend who happens to be particularly good at this game.
9. Before encountering the boss, the player is strongly suggested to interact with a windmill found roughly halfway through the area. What should they do with this windmill?

Answer: Light it on fire

Burning the windmill eliminates almost all of the poison liquid from this map, most notably from the boss room. Unless the player is embarking on a challenge run, using a Flame Butterfly or nearby Bonfire to light a torch and burn this windmill is a good idea.
10. Just before the area boss fight in the Earthen Peak, an NPC merchant shows up here who will return to Majula once the boss has been cleared. Who is this?

Answer: Laddersmith Gilligan

Gilligan is a con artist, charging exorbitant rates for ladders, a replica ladder toy, Bleed Resins and the classically terrible Reinforced Club weapon. Once he returns to Majula, he can build ladders over the hole leading to the Gutter, to make it easier and much safer for the player to maneuver their way down.
11. If the player would like to double down on NPC summons, there's a second one available just in front of the boss room for this area. Who is this NPC?

Answer: Jester Thomas

Where Devotee Scarlett is undoubtedly the strongest NPC summon in the game, funnily enough, the area's second NPC summon in Jester Thomas is likely a distant second place, and they're both in the same area. Needless to say, summoning both makes the area boss quite a bit easier, especially since the boss is weak to Fire and Jester Thomas happens to be a Pyromancer.
12. Our main boss of Earthen Peak is Mytha, the Baneful Queen. Her title suggests she was jealous of something to quite a high extent, and upon gazing into the game's lore, we see that Mytha indeed had unrequited feelings of affection. To try and win over the Old Iron King, what did Mytha do?

Answer: Poisoned herself endlessly

Dialogue with Laddersmith Gilligan as he is residing within the Earthen Peak reveals this. Needless to say, this drastic endeavor did not get the result Mytha was looking for.
13. Mytha, the Baneful Queen has a massive weakness to one specific element. What element is this?

Answer: Fire

Mytha will take 160% the usual damage from Fire, giving her the third highest weakness out of any boss in the game, only falling short to Smelter Demon (Blue) and Giant Lord taking 240% the usual damage from Dark. Given that the summonable NPC Jester Thomas is a Pyromancer, it should come as little surprise that he can easily solo this fight if the player happens to be struggling with it and needs a hand.
14. While Mytha has a huge weakness, this is somewhat compensated for by having a downright immunity. What is Mytha immune to?

Answer: Poison

Given her backstory, it should be easy to see why Poison will not damage Mytha. As well, if the player did not burn the windmill before entering this fight, the entire area will be filled with Poison, and Mytha will slowly heal off of it.
15. Mytha's boss soul can be converted into the Mytha's Bent Blade, a dagger. This weapon is exclusive for doing one thing, what is it?

Answer: Innately inflicting multiple statuses

Unfortunately, this dagger is neither buffable nor infusable. Not to worry, however, as it exclusively inflicts both Poison and Toxic build up when attacking enemies, and is the only weapon in the game capable of inflicting multiple status ailments innately, and without needing to be infused. Toxic in particular can be extremely deadly, especially in PvP combat.

This helps to make up for the weapon's non-existent range and terrible poise damage.
