Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Super Smash Brothers", Master Hand brought the characters to life from dolls. In "Super Smash Brothers Melee", what are they brought to life from?

Answer: Trophies

Many, many trophies exist in this game. Some of them are acquired through straightforward means, like earning a character's trophy if you manage to beat Adventure mode with them. Others can be more obscure, as far, far more trophies exist in this game (290) than did dolls in the Nintendo 64 version.
2. Mewtwo made its debut in this game as a Smasher. It had some moves from original "Pokemon" games brought here, then converted into attacks more appropriate for a fast-paced fighting game. What is one of Mewtwo's moves?

Answer: Shadow Ball

By holding the B Button, Mewtwo will stand in place and begin to charge its Shadow Ball, similar to Donkey Kong winding up his punch or Samus charging her charge shot. The player can input a move or a jump to pause the charge, keeping the Shadow Ball at the size it was when Mewtwo stopped charging it.

When fired, the ball will travel in a straight line, with a speed and range growing with how long it was charged. The damage and knockback are predictably influenced by this too.

Unlike "Pokemon" where Shadow Ball would operate off of Power Points, PP does not exist in this game. Mewtwo can therefore use Shadow Ball as many times as the player wants.
3. In the world of "Pokemon", Mew is often a hard Pokemon to get a hold of. It's also quite rare in this game too. But before it even has the chance to spawn in, the player must achieve what?

Answer: All characters unlocked

When finally unlocking the entire roster, the player must then ensure items are set to on and, specifically, the Poke Ball item is active. If only wanting to see Mew, the player should disable all other items so that only the Poke Ball can show up. After that, Mew will have a very thematically fitting but quite irritating 1 in 151 chance to appear out of a Poke Ball.

It is thematically fitting, as Mew was the very last of the original 151 Pokemon making up the very first generation.
4. Which of the following is a name of a stage in this game?

Answer: Temple

The iconic Temple map did debut in this game. This map is known far and wide for its unique layout which can create entertaining stand offs and tense situations, where players can sometimes survive for far, far longer than usual.

Big Battlefield and Windy Hill Zone debuted in "Smash 4", and while Norfair did exist in the "Metroid" universe at the time of "Melee", the "Smash" universe did not grant Norfair a stage until "Brawl".
5. Which one of these does Kirby NOT turn into from Stone (Down+B)?

Answer: A pile of cement

All of Kirby's different forms are merely cosmetic, and none of them add extra damage or inflict higher or lower knockback. Having said that, both of those figures are quite high. And much like in "Kirby" games, Kirby cannot be harmed through ordinary means while in Stone form.

He can be easily grabbed out of this however, so if fighting someone who continues to use this move, consider punishing it with a grab attack.
6. How many lives do players have during Coin Battles?

Answer: Infinite

Coin Battles are focused around, of course, earning coins. That is not to say that death is without punishment, as the player will lose half of their total on taking a KO. However, it is impossible to run out of lives during this mode, so the player and anyone playing with them is guaranteed the ability to participate from start to finish.
7. Which one of these cannot be grabbed and held?

Answer: A Heart Container

Of course, while Link himself can pull out and throw all the bombs he wants, his opponents can snatch them mid-air if they're timely and toss them right back. The same can be said about Electrode, an exploding Pokemon who blows up shortly after appearing out of a Poke Ball. A Screw Attack can be discarded, or thrown at the enemy, if the player does not want to use it.

That said, the Heart Container is a healing item. It is automatically consumed on pick up. Therefore, it cannot be held in order to throw it at someone, such as an ally in a team fight.
8. What game is the stage Big Blue from?

Answer: "F-Zero"

Big Blue is an auto-scrolling stage with a consistently hazardous or outright unusable floor. Characters with high aerial mobility, like Jigglypuff and Kirby, are best set to succeed on this map, as it does require quite a bit of platforming just to survive.
9. How much damage does Pichu receive from doing it's own Thundershock (B)?

Answer: 1%

Any time Pichu uses an attack which involves it producing any kind of electricity, it takes a small amount of damage. Combined with Pichu being the single lightest character in the game, and it clearly is not intended to last for the long haul!
10. Besides beating Classic or Adventure normally and not fitting the criteria to unlock another character how can you unlock Jigglypuff?

Answer: Fifty VS matches

By playing fifty games of any length and any kind in the Vs Mode, the player will gain the opportunity to unlock Jigglypuff. This is a simple one-on-one against a weak AI controlling Jigglypuff in a one stock situation. By defeating the Jigglypuff here, the player will unlock it. If they are defeated, playing one more Vs Match will allow the player to rematch Jigglypuff.
