Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

"Sonic Spinball" is an excellent example of why developers should never be made to force a game to meet a deadline. This game was born as a result of Sega realizing the third iteration of "Sonic the Hedgehog" would not make a 1993 deadline. To put forth a new game on this deadline, they wrote the code for the game in suboptimal language and ultimately just pushed out what can best be described as a "pinball game with some platforming."

"Sonic CD" was released for the Sega CD in 1993. This game debuted Amy Rose and Metal Sonic.

"Sonic Chaos" debuted Sonic's infamous Spin Dash technique, where he can hold in place, charge himself up, then propel forward and dash through enemies that get in his way.

As the title somewhat suggests, "Sonic & Knuckles" is where Knuckles made his debut. He begins as an adversary before realizing he was tricked by Dr Eggman, and eventually joins Sonic's side.

"Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble" is somewhat of a spiritual successor to "Chaos". Sonic and Tails team up to gather all of the Chaos Emeralds, before either Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles or Nack the Weasel do.

Sonic is not be playable in "Knuckles' Chaotix", and this was the first game in the franchise where this was the case. However, he does make a cameo appearance in the game. It is the single direct appearance this quiz is asking for.

"Sonic Labyrinth" is quite the doozy of a game for the franchise's lore. In this game, Sonic has his shoes stolen, which prevents him from running. The goal of this game is to collect keys in this puzzle-like game from three different worlds, then go get his shoes back from Dr. Eggman.

"Sonic Blast" was for the Sega Game Gear. This game did have impressive graphics, but it is well known for boasting very poor controls. It is a 3D adventure featuring open-ended levels that simply do not fit a Sonic game lacking in any sort of mechanical complexion otherwise.

"Sonic Advance" was a trilogy of games to release for the Gameboy Advanced. All three games got fairly good reception, with the third being viewed as generally the best.

"Sonic Rush" debuts Blaze the Cat and was the first title from the franchise to release on the Nintendo DS.

"Sonic Rivals" features one of the silliest evil-plot premises of the franchise: Dr. Eggman gains the capability to turn people into cards, and threatens to do so to take over the world. In a plot twist later, it turns out that Eggman was actually silently abducted and Eggman Nega was impersonating him.

"Sonic Heroes" was a title for the Gamecube featuring four different 'teams' the player could go through the main story with. Each team featured three characters from earlier in the franchise. Team Sonic consists of the blue blur himself along with longtime pals Tails and Knuckles.

"Sonic Unleashed" was a change of pace for the franchise, but it did not entirely neglect its fast paced platforming roots; instead opting to share them with a second half of the game, at night, where the "Werehog" would unleash and feature slower paced combat-focused gameplay.

"Sonic Forces" is a new shift in atmosphere and ambience, as it features Sonic inside of a world where, essentially, Doctor Eggman finally won. Taking back an apocalyptic wasteland from him is the premise of this game.

"Sonic Frontiers" was a trend-catching release in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. This is an open world game around the time where open world games were seemingly around every corner.

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl" became the first game of that franchise to include third party characters, who were not created by Nintendo. Sonic, along with "Metal Gear Solid's" Snake, trailblazed this glorious path. Neither of them appeared in the Nintendo 64 version of the game.

"The Adventures of Quik & Silva" released on the Amiga and the Atari ST. It was ultimately never formally released outside of the UK. This game was pretty much a massive cash grab for a trio of desperate game developers, and as such, there are several very blatant copyright infringements in this game. Sonic himself appears as an enemy, of all things.

"Sports Talk Baseball" is a 1991 Sega Mega Drive game. In it, if the player hits a home run that travels at least 400 feet, they will find Sonic himself standing on the top set of stands, enjoying the game with a chili dog.

In similar fashion, "Joe Montana II Sports Talk Football" is a football game where Sonic can potentially appear on the megatron after a team scores a touchdown.

"Art Alive!" features Sonic posing for the player while they can use digital art to draw him.

"OutRunners" is a race car game where, on occasion, Sonic and Tails can be seen flying overhead on a given track inside of Tornado planes.

In "Crusader of Centy", the player can straight up just happen upon Sonic sunbathing on the Anemone Beach. He even has dialogue if approached.

"Jazz Jackrabbit" is a 1994 PC game where the main character, Jazz, wishes out loud that he could easily defeat enemies by simply jumping on them. Sonic appears out of nowhere and threatens to call his lawyer on Jazz before swiftly departing.

"Bug!" features a cameo appearance from Sonic where he races the main character, Bug, on foot.

It is "Tails' Skypatrol" which marks the first game in the franchise where Sonic does not even make a brief appearance. Tails is the playable character and, overall, this game takes full advantage of the unique approach and provides an experience that is very, very different from a game featuring the blue blur.

"Tails Adventure", once again, features Sonic's understudy as the main, playable character while leaving Sonic on the sidelines.

"Sonic Destruction", "Quadruple Quarry", "Sonic's Chaotix", "Sonic Bomb", "Venture Forth", "Sonic Villains" and "Sonic Restrained" do not exist.

Sonic is not involved with "Madden NFL", "MLB the Show", "Fluxteria", "Spiritfarer" or "Persona 5 Tactica".
