Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sonic's sidekick is nicknamed "Tails", but what's his real name?

Answer: Miles Prower

The makers of Tails were divided between the names "Tails" and "Miles". They finally decided to make "Miles" his legal name and "Tails" his nickname. He first appeared in "Sonic 2".
2. Sonic is always trying to stop his enemy, Dr. Robotnik. What is the nickname given to him?

Answer: Eggman

Robotnik has been Sonic's enemy in almost every game. He got the nickname "Eggman" because of his egg-shaped body.
3. Sonic has another ally who started out as a misguided echidna enemy. What was his name?

Answer: Knuckles

Knuckles first appeared in "Sonic 3" and was misguided by Eggman into thinking Sonic was the enemy. All he wanted to do was protect the Master Emerald.
4. In every "Sonic" game, there are special items that when you collect them, allow you to be hit and not die. All the ones you have gathered go flying everywhere in this situation. What are they called?

Answer: Rings

Yes, rings are an essential part of "Sonic" games and have been in nearly every one. Rings also give you a 1-up.
5. While chasing after Eggman, along the way Sonic encounters a few bonus stages. The bonus stages have changed with each game. What is waiting for you at the end of the stage if you beat it right?

Answer: Chaos Emeralds

Chaos Emeralds are essential for stopping Eggman in his plans to rule the world. If you don't collect all of these, then you haven't completed the game 100%.
6. The bonus stage requires you to have a certain amount of rings to access them. How many rings do you need?

Answer: 50

Up until "Sonic 3", the bonus levels were where you would find the Chaos Emeralds. In "Sonic 1", if the player has at least 50 rings at the end of an act, a giant golden ring will float above the finishing sign which can be jumped through to enter one of the Special Stages (this excludes the final act of a stage, when Sonic will enter a boss fight).

In "Sonic 2", when Sonic has collected at least 50 rings and he hits a Star Post, a red halo of stars will briefly float above it, which Sonic can then jump through to get to a special stage.
7. How many rings do you need to get an extra life?

Answer: 100

There are many ways to get extra lives in the "Sonic" series, but 100 rings is the easiest. There's a level in "Sonic 2" called Casino Nights where you can get many rings.
8. After you get all of the Chaos Emeralds, you can make a transformation. You must collect 50 rings. If you jump, you will transform into a new, gold-colored Sonic. What is the name given to this Sonic?

Answer: Super Sonic

Super Sonic can run as fast as normal Sonic at full speed, and will kill any enemy you run into, except for Robotnik, of course. Also, in "Sonic & Knuckles" there are emeralds that are called the Super Emeralds that when you get them with Sonic, he turns into Hyper Sonic.
9. In "Sonic 3", there are three different kinds of shields that cover Sonic and give him special abilities. Which of these is not one?

Answer: Gold

The flame shield lets you walk on fire and lava and use the homing attack. The water shield lets you breathe underwater and gives you a bouncing technique. The lightning shield gives you an extra jump in mid-air and attracts rings from far away. Both the lightning and flame shields will disappear if you go underwater.
10. Which of the following is a zone in "Sonic & Knuckles"?

Answer: Lava Reef

Angel Island Zone is the first zone in "Sonic 3", Labyrinth Zone is the fourth in "Sonic 1", and Aquatic Ruin Zone is the third zone in "Sonic 2". "Sonic 3" made a significant change in the way the game transitioned between acts 1 & 2 (3 in "Sonic 2" and beyond). Instead of going to a completely different act, each zone was one long level split up into three acts.
