Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is a two part mission, the first part where the player plays as Alex Mason. His location is unknown to his commanding officers. Yet, he does not appear to be alone. Who appears to be with Mason at the start of this mission?

Answer: Viktor Reznov

This is the point where the player has to pay attention to the little textbox they get at the start of every mission. Normally, this is just a little blurb telling the player who they're playing as and where they're at. But, this time, the textbox very specifically states that Mason is headed to a Russian Bio weapons facility by himself.

The 'by himself' part is crucial; how come Reznov is here if Mason is supposed to be alone? That doesn't even scratch the surface at attempting to answer 'how' Reznov is even here in the first place.
2. Mason is, in essence, flying completely rogue. What is his goal on Rebirth Island?

Answer: Kill Steiner

At this point, Kravchenko is presumed dead, and Dragovich's whereabouts are not known. Steiner, however, has explicitly been confirmed to be on Rebirth Island, where this mission takes place. Mason aggressively hunts him down this mission.
3. Before long, Mason encounters Dr. Fredrick Steiner in person for the first time this campaign. It is here where an incredibly notable dialogue line is said, by Mason, to Steiner. What does Mason himself say?

Answer: "My name is Viktor Reznov, and I will have my revenge!"

It is here where the plot twist is finally unveiled: 'Reznov' never existed at all in the first place, and was merely a mirage that the KGB programmed Mason into seeing when he was at Vorkuta. Everything that Mason perceives Reznov as saying, is just something Mason himself is saying while he is envisioning Reznov saying it.

When playing as Mason, the player will see Reznov himself say the line. However, playing as Hudson, the player can witness this sequence take place. Plain as day, they will both see and hear Mason say "My name is Viktor Reznov!"
4. During the second part of this mission, the player plays as Jason Hudson. It is somewhat of a return to old school "Call of Duty" form in this part of the mission. Technically, which of the following is true?

Answer: There is no health regeneration

As Hudson, the player must travel through grounds which have been bombarded in Nova 6 gas. Nova 6 is extremely deadly, resulting in instanteous death for anyone who breathes it in. Hudson wears a gas suit designed to allow him to breathe and operate in the battlefield. However, this suit is not bulletproof at all. If enough enemies shoot Hudson, it will eventually destroy his gear and kill him immediately.

Ordinarily, if the player takes a ton of damage, they can find cover and let passive health regeneration do its thing. However, Hudson's suit cannot fix itself. It only has a finite number of hits it can take before it ruptures.

Because of this, this mission is mechanically very similar to older "Call of Duty" titles. When the franchise started off, there was no automatic health regeneration; if the player took enough cumulative hits, they would just die and have to start over. Same idea here.
5. Mason starts off with his bare hands, but Hudson is a lot more prepared. What is the first weapon Hudson can use in this mission?

Answer: Enfield

This is an instance where seemingly random attachments come together to be incredibly useful. This Enfield has an IR Scope and an underbarreled Masterkey attachment. On paper, this sounds ridiculous. It normally would be, but the scope in particular makes perfect sense here.

The IR Scope highlights any enemies in bright white. Because the player is constantly enshrouded in Nova 6 gas, enemies can be hard to spot with the naked eye. This scope is perfect to deal with the problem.

The Masterkey sees use in close quarters, where Hudson notably otherwise lacks a CQC weapon. When every hit taken counts a lot, being as efficient as possible is paramount, especially on higher difficulty settings.
6. Grigori Weaver explictly asks Jason Hudson where Viktor Reznov is. Hudson gives him a plain, simple but deadly accurate response. According to Hudson, is Reznov on Rebirth Island?

Answer: No

According to Hudson, Reznov was killed trying to escape Vorkuta alongside Mason. If you have been playing the campaign and have been paying no attention to any narrative whatsoever, Hudson does you the service of tying it up nicely by explicitly stating that Mason only saw Reznov due to the KGB brainwashing him into doing so.
7. What is one weapon the player can pick up in Rebirth, playing as either Alex Mason or Jason Hudson?

Answer: Strela-3

This has to be among the strangest drops in the entirety of this campaign. This mission is either stealth based, or takes place entirely indoors. The Strela-3 is a vehicle destroyer, and cannot free fire. It must first lock on to an entity before it can be fired.

There are literally no qualifying targets for the Strela-3 across this entire mission. Thus, while the player can pick it up, it is literally less useful than trying to run around bare handed.
8. Uniquely, the 'I hate monkeys' achievement can be earned playing as either Mason or Hudson. This achievement, clearly, involves a series of caged monkeys the player will find as they arrive on Rebirth Island. What must be done to earn 'I hate monkeys'?

Answer: Kill seven monkeys in ten seconds

There are a total of fifteen monkeys strewn about in the research wing of Rebirth Island. The absolute nanosecond the player initially arrives as Mason, then later as Hudson, the timer starts. The player has ten seconds to kill seven or more of the fifteen available monkeys. There is no specific way they must go about doing this, only that these primates have got to go, and fast.

Because there are fifteen monkeys, and the player essentially gets to try this twice in the same mission, they should refrain from killing excessive or unnecessary monkeys as Mason, as to let them try with Hudson. If the player kills ten of the fifteen monkeys with Mason, it would then become impossible to get this achievement with Hudson since only five monkeys remain.
9. As Hudson, flawless work will result in the "No Leaks" side achievement. How does the player achieve No Leaks?

Answer: Reach the end without dying

Hudson functionally has no health regeneration in this mission. If he gets hit cumulatively too many times, his suit will rupture or, 'leak', and he will die. As such, this achievement can be boiled down to "as Hudson, get to the end of the mission without dying".

Hilariously, the achievement takes its verbiage very seriously, too much so. The reason for this is that, if the player gets halfway through the mission, but Hudson's suit is a single hit from being ruptured, they can 'cheese' the achievement still.

By having Hudson turn to an allied Marine and shooting them, the game will force a mission failure on the player with "Friendly Fire will not be tolerated!" before sending them back to their previous checkpoint. When resetting, any damage Hudson's suit took will be undone.

In the aforementioned sequence, Hudson technically does not die. So the game will not flag the player for him dying, and thus, the achievement will still be earnable. If the player is struggling, this is a super exploitable loophole to help them out.
10. In the end, the truth about Viktor Reznov is revealed. From Mason's point of view, he watched as Reznov pulled out a gun and shot Dr. Steiner as straight as can be. Did Reznov kill Steiner?

Answer: No

Reznov did not kill Steiner, but rather, Mason did. Mason perceives Reznov as having done the killing. However, both Jason Hudson and Grigori Weaver watch from behind a bulletproof window as Mason himself is the one to kill Steiner, while proclaiming that his name is Viktor Reznov.

Viktor Reznov died in Vorkuta. He continues to appear in Mason's perception afterward because Mason was thoroughly brainwashed by the Russian KGB while he was being held captive at Vorkuta. But in actuality, Reznov has never, truly, been with Mason. This perfectly explains why he has seemed to appear in the most outlandish, bizarre scenarios where he should never have possibly been able to appear. It also explains why none of Mason's allies interact with Reznov directly, despite having ample chance to do so; Reznov literally not being there for them made it impossible.

This was ultimately arguably the most eye-popping plot twist for a narrative in all of "Call of Duty" history. The build up and the way the plot twist is delivered were simply legendary, and made this one of, if not the single greatest, most well written campaigns in franchise history.
