Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This mission is based in Vietnam. Where in Vietnam does it take place?

Answer: Khe Sanh

Vorkuta is in Russia while the Bay of Pigs is in Cuba. Hue City is visited later in the campaign. Specifically, an American base in Khe Sanh is where the player spends most of this mission.
2. Early in the mission, an iconic real-world rock song can be heard playing, and it remains playing for awhile. What band is featured in this mission?

Answer: Creedence Clearwater Revival

CCR's iconic "Fortunate Son" begins the moment Woods iconically tells Mason "This is 'Nam, baby!" followed shortly by the camera panning towards a few combat helicopters gently landing in front of him.
3. What was the intent of sending the MAC-V SOG to Vietnam in this mission?

Answer: Investigation

The specific intent was to investigate Soviet involvement with the area. At the time, the Americans were thick in the middle of the Vietnam war, and the Soviets themselves were also a dangerous threat.
4. The player begins this mission with an M16 and an M60. The M16 has a unique attachment to it that's quite odd for the setting. What attachment?

Answer: Masterkey

Unfortunately, due to how most of the mission plays out, the Masterkey is virtually useless. This is basically an underbarrelled shotgun attachment. The problem is, this mission is basically exclusively mid to long range combat that shotguns simply can't perform at.
5. The M16 in this mission differs greatly from M16s the player can access throughout most of the entire rest of "Black Ops 1". What is unique about the M16 in this mission?

Answer: It is fully automatic

Throughout the entire rest of the game, there is only one other way the player can get a full auto M16. On any Zombies map where the M16 can be acquired, using Pack-a-Punch turns it into the Skullcrusher. The Skullcrusher is a full-auto M16 with an underbarrelled grenade launcher.

Other than that, the M16 is a three round burst rifle in this game. It isn't possible to get a full auto M16 in Multiplayer and, apart from this mission, it is strictly a three round burst rifle in the campaign mode.
6. There is a ton of fighting to be had in this mission, and opportunity to pick up a litany of different weapons. Which of the following is a weapon that can be picked up in this mission?

Answer: Stakeout

Due to the uniquely massive horde of enemies the player will end up fighting, they spawn in on a very specific logic that dictates what weapon they will wield. The most common weapon they will have is the AK-47, which approximately 50/83 enemies on the battlefield are going to have.

The Stakeout is the single least likely weapon to appear, as only 3/83 enemies on average are going to be found wielding one.
7. A rather large amount of vehicles appear in this mission, air and ground. Which of the following is one of them?

Answer: M113 APC

An M113 APC is a classic real-world American tank. 'APC' stands for Armored Personnel Carrier, which is exactly what this thing is intended to do. It was first designed in 1961, and remained in use well into the 21st century, having seen significant usage across in over 40 different real-world armed conflicts across the world.

In this mission, there is exactly one M113, but it gets blown up very quickly by Vietcong T-55 tanks. It is this sequence which prompts the player to retrieve a TOW rocket to counter-blow them up.
8. There is a secret, optional achievement the player can earn in this mission. It's titled "Tough Economy" and centers around a sequence where the player must use TOW missiles to destroy a series of tanks. How does the player achieve 'Tough Economy'?

Answer: Use no more than six missiles

The player must retrieve a TOW rocket launcher to do the deed. They have an infinite amount of rockets, so they can't really 'fail' it in general. Having said that, there are a total of six T-55s to shoot down. If the player goes a perfect 6/6 in destroying them, they get this achievement.
9. This is a notoriously difficult mission, especially if played on the Hardened or Veteran difficulty settings. Which of the following is true about this mission?

Answer: It has the most enemies to fight by far

At bare minimum, 83 total enemy Vietcong soldiers will attack the player. Technically, it is possible to get by without killing anywhere close to 83, but this is easier said than done.

Most of this mission involves trench warfare, taking cover and engaging in a humongous gunfight where dozens of soldiers from both sides shoot at each other. Not only is survival itself difficult throughout all the chaos, but ensuring not to run out of ammunition, despite beginning with nearly 1200 rounds, can be a balancing act itself.

Finally, the biggest reason this mission is so infamous has to do with "Black Ops" quirky AI. In this game, if an enemy soldier spawns, tries to target the player but can't because they're behind cover, they will most likely throw a grenade at the player. In Hardened and especially Veteran, this grenade usage is incredibly fast, and the enemies have unlimited grenades.

With a minimum of 83 enemies, all of them can and likely will be throwing grenades, forcing the player to reposition constantly. They can't brainlessly just rush across the battlefield to reposition, or they'll be gunned down. If they wait too long however, they instead get blown up by grenade spam.

Not to mention, 83 is just the *minimum* number of enemies. Enemies do not stop respawning until the player advances to various checkpoints. As such, if the player drags their feet too much, they could easily be beset by far, far more grenade-happy Vietcong soldiers.
10. If the player is crafty and picks up Intel drops, they will get a mostly missing but existent dossier about their ally, Jason Hudson. What does this document reveal about him, of the following?

Answer: His age

The document states that Hudson is thirty years old, six feet flat in height, and was a Psychology and Political Science major in college. At least to me, personally, this was a surprise. Hudson looks to be far older than thirty years old!
