Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The mission begins with a bang, literally. The player starts in a helicopter actively going down, which then crashes entirely. After the pilot is killed and the helicopter begins to sink underwater, all looks bleak for Alex Mason. Suddenly, someone entirely comes to his rescue. Who appears to helps Mason escape the sinking chopper?

Answer: Viktor Reznov

At this point, if the player has been paying any attention to the story whatsoever, Reznov being here should make absolutely no sense. Without having any knowledge of what's to come, the player would assume Reznov either: A. Was killed/captured trying to escape Vorkuta or B. Was taken into custody by the American government as a Russian defector.

There is no plausible way a reasonable person would assume otherwise. And if you did believe either to be the case, it would make zero sense for Reznov to have appeared to save Mason here.
2. What is the first gun the player is able to use in this mission?

Answer: M1911

Immediately upon crash landing the helicopter, the pilot of the chopper will weakly ask for help with whatever grievous injury he has suffered. He never gets the aid he needed though, as two Vietcong soldiers appear and shoot him immediately. After this happens, there is a slow motion gameplay cinematic where the player pulls out an M1911 and has to shoot both enemy soldiers with it.
3. What is one weapon the player can pick up or use during this mission?

Answer: Python

During a brief piece of gameplay where the player is crawling through a tunnel, they will have a Python in one hand and a flashlight in the other. The Python has been given a Speed Reloader attachment.
4. After escaping the helicopter, Mason and Woods enter a scenario where they must infiltrate a village and position a few blocks of C4 in various places. Is stealth consistently mandatory for this sequence?

Answer: No

This is arguably the most frustrating part of the entire mission, as there is essentially an invisible "stealth required" switch that is constantly being flipped on and off numerous times throughout this small portion of the mission. When the player is swimming, they must approach a boat with two soldiers on it to try and stab them; stealth is mandatory here, and breaking stealth results in immediate mission failure. Moments later, the player must, on foot, approach two soldiers with the same goal. Stealth is not mandatory here, so the player can simply waltz up to these men without a care and do the deed.

There are a few instances where stealth swaps from being mandatory to optional like this.
5. How many blocks of C4 must be planted around the village to proceed?

Answer: Two

One block goes underneath a metallic structure where there are two canopies atop it, just to the left of three slender, metallic boats. This one is going to be found pretty quickly. The second one takes a bit more work to get to, and will require the stealthy killing of three Vietcong soldiers. Once they are slain, the player can swim underneath a wooden, make shift bridge and slide a block of C4 in between a gap in the structure.

Once the C4 is armed and blown, the stealth aspect of this mission goes with it!
6. Players will gain access to the Grim Reaper not long after detonating their C4s. They could employ a "fire and forget" strategy with it and use the Grim Reaper to utterly annihilate the Vietcong. Or, they could use it in a specific way to complete a side achievement. How does the player earn 'Heavy Hand' with the Grim Reaper?

Answer: Destroy MG encampments

Not long after dealing with the ZPU 4, the player will come upon three closed in encampments with mounted LMGs, and a Humvee with an Elephant Gun being manned by a soldier. What the game intends the player to do is throw a grenade into the three encampments, then simply use a bullet gun to kill the Elephant Gunner. What they can instead do is use the Grim Reaper to blast all of the above into smithereens. If they do it this way, they will earn the Heavy Hand achievement.
7. The startled, angry Vietcong will respond to the player's explosives with a volatile, heavy hitting ZPU 4. Ordinary bullets and minor explosives cannot deal with this thing. What must the player do to destroy it?

Answer: Use a Grim Reaper

The Grim Reaper is a massive, extremely heavy but absurdly destructive rocket launcher. It packs even larger explosions than the M72 Law while being actually able to fire in a perfectly straight line unlike the RPG. To give an idea, the power disparity between the Grim Reaper and aforementioned launchers is so great that the Grim Reaper is not usable in Zombies, and is only a temporary scorestreak in Multiplayer, whereas the M72 Law is plainly wieldable in both modes.

The Grim Reaper packs enough of a bang to make short work of a ZPU 4. One rocket is all it takes to blast the four wheeled terror to kingdom come.
8. Mason encounters Reznov inside a rat's nest, while he is alongside Swift. In this sequence, Swift is about to be fatally stabbed by a Vietcong soldier. Is it possible to save him from this fate?

Answer: No

What is supposed to happen, if playing the game 'normally' and assuming the player doesn't foresee the incoming ambush, is that Swift gets stabbed by an ambushing Vietcong soldier. However, it takes a little bit of time for this to manifest due to a brief narrative cinematic taking place beforehand. In theory, if a player knew what was coming, they could step in front of Swift and attempt to intercept the Vietcong soldier coming...

However, Treyarch apparently thought of that. If the player attempts to stand in front of Swift to essentially 'shield' him, the narrative cinematic stops and Swift will, angrily and with vulgarity, tell the player to stand behind him. The cinematic does not continue until the player returns to standing behind Swift.

It is somewhat of a 'lame' way to curb player creativity, but unfortunately, Swift's fate is sealed.

Hilariously, on the Wii version, technically this "failsafe" doesn't exist. The game will proceed just fine if the player steps in front of Swift. However, in arguably even lamer fashion, the ambushing Vietcong soldier is both completely invincible and lacks collision. He will appear, rush through the player like they aren't there, the player's Python bullets do nothing to him, and he will stab Swift just as he does in any other version.
9. Reznov and Mason hurry to a location where they believe Kravchenko is hiding, only to find him having rigged the place to explode. After narrowly escaping the explosion, they engage a swathe of enemy Vietcong soldiers. Reznov appears to only have one gun. What gun does he wield?

Answer: A pistol

Reznov can be seen, rushing ahead into a swarm of Vietcong enemies, wielding nothing but an M1911. If anyone actually did that for real, they would be gunned down a hundred times over almost immediately, yet Reznov 'survives'. This is clearly the game attempting to at least somewhat show its hand to the player. If paying attention, the player will almost certainly be bewildered, likely pondering the absurdity of what Reznov is doing without having been killed at this point.
10. Intel found in this mission reveals documentation from Kravchenko himself. In it, he provides an exact timeline of just how deadly Nova 6 is. After breathing Nova 6 initially, how long does Kravchenko suggest it will take for it to kill?

Answer: Forty five seconds

Specifically, the document reads "(Nova 6) usually lead to mortality within thirty to forty five seconds." It clarifies that Nova 6 strangely seems to take slightly longer to kill older people, and is faster to kill infants. Thinking about how this would've been tested is truly unsettling.

The document adds that the death is not quick or swift despite a short timeline. It highlights that Nova 6 victims are immediately, on inhalation, beset upon by "sudden and severe pain, a significant drop in blood pressure alongside fever nausea and vomiting." Right before death, victims also begin to experience "blistering of the skin, scaling, peeling and discoloration across the subject's entire body, and coughs signalling the onset of epidermal necrosis."
