Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To start, the player is playing as Captain Mosely. Mosely boards a vehicle used to track and guide a team of CIA agents. What vehicle is Mosely inside of?

Answer: SR-71 Blackbird

The SR-71 Blackbird, in real life, is strictly intended for reconnaissance and overview usage; it does not feature any direct damaging capabilities whatsoever. The player is meant to use the SR-71 to keep eyes on the CIA agents with a bird's eye view. The player must tell them when they can advance, and when they must hide from enemies.
2. As Mosely, the player can earn the Pathfinder achievement. What criteria must be met to earn Pathfinder?

Answer: Guide the squad perfectly with no deaths

The squad cannot take out any enemies at all while the player is playing as Mosely. Attempting to allow them to fight enemies will result in the CIA agents being immediately killed. As such, the player must take care to avoid having the squad engage with any enemies, ever. They also must be swift to keep the squad moving as to evade enemy patrols, both on foot and in vehicle.

If the player manages to make it from start to finish without allowing the squad to take any deaths, they will earn the Pathfinder achievement. Note, if the squad suffers a death but the player then resets the game, it essentially will undo the death. So if struggling to achieve this, the player can at least give it another go without waiting too long.
3. After a brief time spent guiding the CIA to their destination, the player assumes control of Jason Hudson. His starting primary weapon is an AUG, but he is armed with a secondary weapon that ends up taking center stage. What is the player's starting secondary weapon?

Answer: Crossbow

This isn't like any other Crossbow seen across the entire rest of the game. This Crossbow has two fire modes with their own separate ammunition. By default, it will only fire regular crossbow bolts. The player must toggle explosive bolts on and off. They begin the mission with twenty of each ammunition type.
4. As Hudson, the player has another side achievement they can go for: the appropriately titled 'Mr. Black Op'. How is Mr. Black Op earned?

Answer: Reach the end without being detected

This is where having regular, non-explosive bolts on the Crossbow really comes in handy. Not only is the weapon lethal from a distance, but the lack of explosion will prevent the player from breaking their own stealth. That is what makes the Crossbow so valuable for this part of the mission.

It is possible to earn Mr. Black Op without the Crossbow, as the AUG that the player begins with has a Suppressor attached to it. However, the AUG is nowhere near as lethal from a long distance as the Crossbow, so not using the Crossbow makes earning Mr. Black Op deliberately harder.
5. What is one weapon the player could pick up in this mission?

Answer: Famas

The majority of Spetsnaz in this mission wield the Famas. None of the Famas in this mission are suppressed however, so the gun is useless if the player wants to earn the Mr. Black Op achievement.
6. As the team advances through Mt. Yamantau, a surprise RPG shot from an enemy blasts down a bridge they are walking across. Special Agent Bruce Harris falls off the bridge and into the icy depths below. Is he killed during this sequence?

Answer: No

"Black Ops 1" released in 2008. After this campaign came out, for the next twelve real world years, players simply believed Harris died here. After all, how could you blame this presumption? They were high up on Mt. Yamantau, he fell abruptly and without any real protection, and he had no way to break his fall down the perilous mountain.

Yet, when "Cold War" came out in 2020, it clarified that Harris did not perish in this sequence. As it turns out, he somehow survived the fall and was later captured by Soviets. In a cruel twist of fate, he was later released by the Soviets, only to then be abducted once again by William Bowman, who errantly assumed Harris was Perseus. Perseus is the main antagonist of "Cold War", so this mixup was not a very pleasant one.

Humorously, Bruce Harris has a very thick, noticeable black mustache in the Nintendo Wii version of this game, that isn't seen in any other version.
7. As the CIA reaches the bottom of Mt. Yamantau, narrowly escaping death via avalanche, Hudson is contacted by none other than Dr. Friedrich Steiner, one of the main antagonists of the campaign. Steiner wants to make a deal with Hudson. What is the deal?

Answer: Safe extraction for information

Dr. Steiner believes that, with Nova 6 reaching its peak, his talents and expertise will no longer be needed by Dragovich. With that being the case, he believes Dragovich will likely seek to eliminate him to tie up loose ends. Steiner's offer to Hudson is, if the CIA sends a team to safely extract him and protect him from Dragovich, he will provide all information on Nova 6 to Hudson.
8. Crucially, the location of Dr. Steiner is revealed towards the end of the mission. Where is he located?

Answer: Rebirth Island

Rebirth Island is well known for being a mission in which its assets were virtually ported to create the Five map in the Zombies mode with. It's also well known for much, much later being the focal setting for "Call of Duty Warzone" in 2021, roughly thirteen years later.
9. Intel in this mission can reveal the existence of an otherwise classified 'Operation Hourglass'. In a nutshell, what is Operation Hourglass?

Answer: Apprehending/eliminating Dr. Steiner

Dr. Steiner is an international criminal, wanted in multiple countries. Specifically, he committed treason against his home country of Germany for directing and ultimately facilitating the Nova 6 related deaths of numerous German servicemen at the hands of Dragovich. This intel goes on to describe Steiner as a coward, someone who will do anything to save his own skin.
10. Intel can also give a brief overview of Dr. Steiner himself. It reveals many personal details about him, including his age. How old is Dr. Steiner?

Answer: 63 years old

When approaching Steiner later and seeing him up close, he does have the make and appearance of a fairly older gentleman. He is not elderly to the point of being decrepit, clearly, but he is not exactly an athletic specimen either. This explains his fear of Dragovich wanting him eliminated.
