Fun Trivia
This franchise joined the National Hockey League in 1979 as the Hartford Whalers. Beginning in 1987, the franchise went to six consecutive semi-finals, but lost them all. Moving to become the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997, they won the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2006.

Ironically, he was the last player to score a goal for the Hartford Whalers (April 13, 1997), and it was also in a game against Tampa Bay, although the Whalers fared better and won 2-1. Nelson Emerson scored the second goal in Hurricanes history.

He signed an offer sheet, but as a restricted free agent, Detroit had seven days to match it or accept five first-round draft picks in compensation. However, the NHL immediately challenged the validity of the offer and whether it was in violation of the league's collective bargaining agreement. Arbitrator John Sands ruled it was valid, and Detroit immediately matched it, bringing Fedorov back into their lineup and making him a very rich man.
