Mixture: Drama Trivia Questions

1. In 1987, a cop drama premiered called "21 Jump Street." Who played Tom Hanson?

From Quiz
Drama Shows I Like

Answer: Johnny Depp

That's right, Johnny Depp got his big break on TV. "21 Jump Street" was about some police officers who worked undercover, often in high schools or with troubled teens because they looked so young. Johnny Depp soon became a teen idol. Hanson's best friends were Doug Penhall, played by Peter DeLuise, and Holly Robinson played Judy Hoffs, the only female. Harry Truman Loki, who was everyone thought was Japanese, turned out to be Vietnamese. At first, their boss Captain Adam Fuller (Steven Williams), disliked Harry, not because of the lie but because someone from Vietnam killed a friend of his during the war. But he let go of his prejudices not long after.

2. Rick Grimes awakens from a coma to find that the world has been destroyed and most of its inhabitants are actually zombies. In what show does he lead a band of survivors?

From Quiz Horror TV Shows

Answer: The Walking Dead

Based on the famous graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, "The Walking Dead" was created on AMC by frequent Stephen King adaptor Frank Darabont (who was forced to leave the show before season two). The show, following a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic zombie dystopia, has since become one of the top-rated cable TV shows ever made and somewhat led a renewed interest in zombie media. The show follows many key parts from the graphic novels, but with notable differences to ensure a fresh experience for all followers.

3. This was "private eye" television series that was aired from 1958-1961 and is probably best remembered for its theme music. The music won an Emmy Award and two Grammys for its composer. What is the name of this "private eye" series?

From Quiz US TV Crime & Mystery '50s and '60s

Answer: Peter Gunn

Craig Stevens starred as the sophisticated and well groomed Peter Gunn. The music was composed by Henri Mancini. The music became known as the "Peter Gunn Theme". Over the years the music has been used by jazz, rock and blues recording artists.

4. The small screen version of 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' appeared on American television in the early 1960s. It starred which actor, known for portraying Davy Crockett, in the role of Eugene Smith?

From Quiz The Corridors of Power

Answer: Fess Parker

The show was based on the film, although the politician's name was different. The character was another honest senator, trying to do his best for the people he represented. The show does not appear to have made much impact, although it did attract some well known guest stars, including Buster Keaton and Harpo Marx. Parker portrayed Davy Crockett on television in the mid 1950s, before going on to play Daniel Boone from 1964 until 1970. The other actors listed also played Davy Crockett, but on the big screen. John Wayne was in 'The Alamo' (1960), Arthur Hunnicutt in 'The Last Command' (1955) and James Griffith played Crockett in 'The First Texan' (1956).

5. This actress first came to light as Zoey, the presidential daughter in "West Wing." But who really wowed us later as Peggy Olson, the secretary who became an advertising executive in "Mad Men?"

From Quiz Sidekicks, Pals, and Henchmen

Answer: Elisabeth Moss

The character of Peggy in "Mad Men" represented the awakening of women's potential in both their business and personal lives during the 1960s. Elisabeth Moss received multiple Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild nominations for her role as Peggy, both in the Supporting and Lead Actress Categories.

6. The opening credits for a TV series from the seventies show a sheriff on horseback in New York. What is the title of this TV series?

From Quiz Crime Time

Answer: McCloud

"McCloud" is not only the title of the TV series we're looking for, but also the name of the sheriff portrayed by Dennis Weaver. The series can be found on DVD. Sam McCloud, as is his full name, wants a change of environment and so he leaves his country estate to apply for a job within the New York Police Department. His style of solving cases quite contrasts with the methods the metropolitan police is used to. The series "McCloud" ran from 1970 until 1977. The principal roles were for Dennis Weaver (Sam McCloud), J.D. Cannon (chief Peter Clifford) and Terry Carter (Sergeant Joe Bradhurst). "Columbo" was named after the apparently disorganised lieutenant in the Los Angeles Police Department (a role performed by Peter Falk). This series ran from 1971 until 1978. Later seasons were 1989 - 1993 and 2003. "True Justice" stars Steven Seagal as the undercover agent Elijah Kane, working in and around Seattle (Washington). The series started in 2010. "Gunsmoke" was set in Dodge City (Kansas) and debuted in 1955. James Arness played Marshall Matt Dillon for twenty seasons.

7. What was the name of the immensely popular 70's crime drama that starred Jack Lord, James MacArthur and Kam Fong Chun?

From Quiz Living in the '70s

Answer: Hawaii Five-O

"Hawaii Five-O" ran from 1968-1980 making it one of the very few television shows that was on American television for the whole decade. Set in the exotic state of Hawaii (obviously) this television show depicted the mixed ethnicities found all over the state. Many of the characters had Asian or Polynesian backgrounds. The theme from "Hawaii Five-O", written by Morton Stevens, was one of the most popular and easily recognizable theme songs of that decade. This show focused on the case at hand and did not explore the personal lives of its lead characters.

8. The DuMont Television Network lasted only ten years, 1946 to 1956, before it declared bankruptcy. "Rocky King" was one of its more successful programs. What actor played the Chief of the New York PD Homicide Division?

From Quiz Early Television Mysteries

Answer: Roscoe Karns

Karns had been a very successful character actor in films. "Rocky King" provided him an opportunity to star. "Rocky King" was live, long before the advent of video tape, so the action had to be precisely timed and lines had to be memorized. To save money, "Rocky King" was done in the offices and hallways of the DuMont Company. To save on actors, the plot often used one-sided phone conversations. After the killer was caught, King would phone his wife Mabel. And after he hung up he would always say "Great girl, that Mabel." Jan Murray was the host of DuMont's game show "Dollar a Second". Kids of that era waited to see the adventures of "Captain Video" played by Richard Coogan. "The Plainclothes Man" was another DuMont mystery starring Ken Lynch.

9. One of the earliest police dramas was 'Dixon of Dock Green'. Who played the part of George Dixon?

From Quiz Arresting Personalities

Answer: Jack Warner

The series began in 1955 and showed the activities of the 'bobby on the beat'. The character of George Dixon featured in the film 'The Blue Lamp' from 1950, where he was killed off. He was resurrected for the television series, which was written by Ted Willis. The three incorrect answers are all British actors who appeared in the film 'The Cruel Sea'.

10. In the "Kill Oscar" story, the scientist who created the deadly fembots was played by whom?

From Quiz Bionic Trivia

11. In "Knight Rider," Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) and his talking supercar, KITT (voiced by William Daniels), fought against criminals who operated "above the law." What fictional organization did Michael work for?

From Quiz Action-Adventure shows of the 80's

FLAG was headed by Devon Miles (Edward Mulhare), with headquarters in Los Angeles. FLAG's black semi-trailer usually carried Bonnie Barstow (Patricia McPherson), KITT's mechanic, for mission briefings and repairs.

12. "Oh I just suck at undercover."

16. Who were the two leading singers in the first season of "Glee?"

From Quiz Drama Shows I Like

Answer: Rachael Berry and Finn Hudson

"Glee" debuted in 2009. It was about high school students in the glee club - their fight to get to and win sectionals, their lives, and a whole lot of good music. One of my favorite reoccurring guest stars was Idina Menzel, who played Rachael Berry's biological mother and choir director of a competing school. Lea Michele played Rachel Berry. Aside from three episodes in season four, she was in every episode. Rachel's audition go-to song was "Don't Rain on my Parade." She dreamed of being the lead on Broadway. At first, she wasn't well-liked by the others, but she became more accepted over time. Finn Hudson was her boyfriend through much of the episodes he was in. He joined the glee club after Shue accused him of having drugs in his locker but agreed not to turn him in if he joined the glee club. Sadly the actor who played Finn, Cory Monteith died in July 2013 after season four due to an alcohol and heroin overdose. In season five, there was a tribute episode in which they remembered Finn, but it was never mentioned how the character of Finn died, only that he had. Michele and Monteith were dating in real life at the time of his death.

17. "Dallas" took the glossy television world by storm when it appeared on CBS in 1978. It followed the antics of the Ewing family, who were wealthy from what resource?

From Quiz Television Dramas of the 1970s

Answer: Oil

The Ewings earned their wealth from Ewing Oil, which was founded by patriarch Jock Ewing, husband to Miss Ellie and father to three sons, J.R., Gary, and Bobby. "Dallas" was first broadcast as a five-part mini-series, but its ratings were so high, CBS decided to make it a regular show. The original series ran from 1978-1992.

18. One of the most famous Quinn Martin productions must be "The Fugitive", starring David Janssen as Dr. Kimble. What was Dr. Kimble's first name?

From Quiz A Quinn Martin Production: '60s & '70s TV Series

Answer: Richard

David Janssen starred as Dr. Richard Kimble in "The Fugitive" which ran for 120 episodes from 1963 to 1967. Kimble was sentenced to death for the murder of his wife but escaped when the train taking him to prison was derailed. He then embarks on a cross country search for the real murderer, a one armed man played by Bill Raisch. He was of course pursued by the authorities but mainly by the dogged policeman, Lt. Philip Gerard played by Barry Morse. David Janssen was born David Harold Meyer in Naponee, Nebraska, USA, in 1931. As well as many guest appearances on TV he starred in four TV series of his own. He played Richard Diamond in "Richard Diamond, Private Detective" (1957-1960), Dr. Richard Kimble in "The Fugitive" (1963-1967), James O'Hara in "O'Hara, United States Treasury" (1971-1972) and Harry Orwell in "Harry O" (1974-1976). Among his many movies were "The Green Berets" with John Wayne (1968) and "The Shoes Of The Fisherman" with Anthony Quinn (1968). David Janssen died of a heart attack in Malibu, California, USA, in 1980 aged 48.

19. One season took place in a 'Murder House'; another was in an 'Asylum'. What anthology show taking place in a new setting each season was created by Ryan Murphy?

From Quiz Horror TV Shows

Answer: American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy created this FX show with the anthology in mind. With casts including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy Emma Roberts, Zachary Quinto, Lily Rabe, and others, the show has since been to a Los Angeles haunted house, an east coast asylum in the 1960s, a New Orleans witch academy, and a Freak Show in 1950s Florida. The show has won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

20. What was the name of the popular '60s TV series which featured US federal law-enforcement agents fighting organised crime during the Prohibition era?

From Quiz US TV Crime & Mystery '50s and '60s

Robert Stack starred as Eliot Ness in the TV series. In the movie of the same name in 1987 it starred Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness and Sean Connery received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in his role of Jim Malone, an Irish American police officer. "The Saint" (original series from the UK but also shown on NBC in the 1960s) was made into a movie in 1997, "The Fugitive" became a movie in 1993 and "Mission: Impossible" became a movie in 1996.

21. This political thriller originally appeared on British television in 2003, when it starred David Morrissey and John Simm. It was remade in America as a film with Russell Crowe, under the same name. Which show was it?

From Quiz The Corridors of Power
