TV Grab Bag Trivia

91. On "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", who were Buffy's watchers?

From Quiz Too Much Tube Time- Part One

Answer: Giles and Wesley

Technically, as stated in the ridiculous comedy movie of the same name, Merrick was Buffy's original watcher. He was only ever referenced on the show at the end of season two, as Angel watched Buffy be called. Rupert Giles was her first watcher on the series. Then, in season three Giles was fired from the Watchers Council and replaced with the inept Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. Faith had an extra watcher in season three, who turned out to be a phony. Gwendolyn Post had been a watcher before she went rogue, but hadn't been appointed to Faith via the council. Wesley's skills improved in ALL arenas when he left Sunnydale and joined Angel and Cordy in Los Angeles on the series "Angel". Giles remained her acting watcher until he was re-hired officially in season five.

From Quiz Great TV of the Last 20 Years

Answer: Vice President Danforth Quayle

Dan Quayle, one day, took it upon himself to criticize Candice Bergen's beloved sitcom character, "Murphy Brown", as an example of the breakdown of American morals brought on by bad examples in the media. It turns out the Murphy Brown character, an ace TV journalist with a legendary reputation, had a child out of wedlock on her show. This went on for the better part of a year until, on her show, Bergen's character dumped a truckload of potatoes in front of the vice presidential mansion, razzing 'him' for blatantly misspelling the word "potato". Earlier that year, Quayle had erroneously told a kid to add an "e" to it in a schmoozing circuit incident, something that already made him a major laughingstock. How another Bush got into office after that, only the electoral college knows for sure...

From Quiz A Boomers' General TV Trivia II

Answer: 39

Hard to believe, isn't it? Though there have been some extra episodes found in Jackie Gleason's vault, the 39 original episodes, co-starring Audrey Meadows, Art Carney and Joyce Randolph, are the ones we keep seeing rerun on TV, ad infinitum. That's barely two seasons' worth! These episodes were done so cleverly, however, and are so fresh with each viewing, we never get tired of them! Gleason was a very funny man with a huge ego, and was pretty much viewed as the Orson Welles of television. He was a wildly popular entertainer whose every TV project turned to gold. (With the exception of "You're In The Picture"!) Like Allen, he was a bit of renaissance man, also being a bandleader known for very lush, Mantovani-esque dinner music.
