Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire Trivia Questions

1. Is it possible to become a paladin in this game if you aren't one already?

From Quiz
"Quest For Glory 5": Paladin

Answer: No. No class can become a new paladin

It's been rumored that there originally was going to be a way to become a paladin in this game but this was scrapped. I guess Rakeesh was so worried about the Rites of Rulership being completed and the villain being found as quickly as possible so he didn't want to stop and make the hero a paladin. It also doesn't help that he gets poisoned in the middle of the game. In theory, Rakeesh should be able to make you a paladin at the end of this game. If being a hero in five lands, risking your life countless times, and even saving Rakeesh's life isn't enough to make you a paladin, what is? But becoming a paladin at the end of this game wouldn't do you any good since there never was going to be another sequel, so you can't.

2. What thief stat, introduced in "Quest For Glory 3," is useless in "Quest For Glory 5" unless you use the hard method to get the Pegasus feathers?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Sneaking and Stealing

Answer: Acrobatics

The thief learned acrobatics from the rope vendor in Tarna in "Quest For Glory 3." It was useful for tight-rope walking in that game. It was also useful in "Quest For Glory 4," helping the hero get through the swamp and helping the hero escape some of the traps that come up after reading some of the rituals in the Dark One's cave. But you don't need it in "Quest For Glory 5." The one place you can use it in "Quest For Glory 5" is Pegasus Peaks. If you have the rope and grapnel when you're at Pegasus Peaks, the seesaw won't be there. You'll have to use the rope and grapnel to go from one rock to the other. You can't do this unless you have very high acrobatics. If your acrobatics are a little too low, the hero will walk to his death. If your acrobatics are WAY too low, the hero won't even attempt the walk. You could keep repeating attempts to do that tight-rope walk and build up the Acrobatics stat, but all that's going to happen when your Acrobatics stat gets high enough is the hero will walk to his death. The only other place to get an Acrobatics' boost is in the water. If you swim for a little while, you get a temporary major boost in Acrobatics. However, this is very inconvenient to do and you won't be able to get the water-breathing amulet before you need the Pegasus feathers so you will unnecessarily lose some health and stamina if you try this. And if you put enough points into Acrobatics at the beginning of the game that the hero can do this walk successfully from the start, you've just wasted a lot of points. There is a better way to get to the Pegasus nest, acrobatics are completely useless elsewhere, and every other stat is far more useful in this game. If you get the rope and grapnel before going to Pegasus Peaks, you should put it in you chest before going there. Then, the seesaw will be there. It's MUCH better to use the seesaw to get past that part.

3. The fighter gets points for purchasing what sword?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Fighter Solutions

Answer: Dragon Slayer

The Dragon Slayer sword is VERY expensive, but if you free all the fishing villages and sell all your junk to Pholus, you should have enough money to purchase the Dragon Slayer sword for yourself AND the Ice Diamond sword for Elsa and still have enough money for the rest of the game. Buying the Ice Diamond Sword for Elsa will be quite useful at the end of the game even if you do not intend to marry her.

4. What is the 5th Rite of Rulership?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 3)

Answer: Courage

For this rite, the contestants go to Hades and get some water from the river Styx. It is unclear what direct purpose this would serve for Silmaria (the Rites of Rulership are supposed to serve the needs of the kingdom). There are a couple of other side tasks the hero does while down there that do serve a purpose for this kingdom, but it is unclear whether Logos and Minos knew it was possible to do these tasks down there. It seems apparent that Minos didn't, or he would have told Elsa to do at least one of those things.

5. Whose name means "Red Shirt" in Greek?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 2)

Answer: Kokeeno Pookameeso

I cannot imagine what parents would name their son "Red Shirt", but it could be worse. In "Quest For Glory 2", there is a character named "Beggar". Kokeeno Pookameeso is a guard for the city of Silmaria, and has been since he was 16. He looks and dresses just like all the other guards of the city, except he wears his namesake red shirt while the other guards wear purple shirts. He dies very early on in the Rites of Rulership. He is based on "Star Trek", in which characters with red shirts get sent off to die.

6. Who is the narrator for this game during gameplay?

From Quiz Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire

Answer: There is no narrator

Unlike "Quest For Glory 4," there is no narrator in "Quest For Glory 5." Greg Tomko-Pavia narrates the introduction as King Justinian, but the key words in the question were "during gameplay".

7. After talking to Rakeesh at the beginning of the game, most characters get their Katta pin back. What does the thief get?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Sneaking and Stealing

Answer: Magic grapnel

This means that the thief is the only character that gets back a useful item from Rakeesh to begin the game. The thief needs a rope and grapnel in this game. He doesn't really need a magic grapnel, but he would have to buy a new grapnel in the thieves' guild. By talking to Rakeesh, he gets the grapnel for free. The Katta pin is completely useless in this game. All you can do with it is show it to the Kattas in town. They will call you "Katta-friend," but nothing else will come of it. Why Rakeesh, a paladin, gives the thief a better item than the other characters is beyond me.

8. How many new spells does Shakra sell?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Abra Kadabra

Answer: Three

Shakra sells "Boom", "RIP", and "Fascination". All of these spells are pretty useless, but you get points for buying them. He also sells "Juggling Lights", although I don't know why he has that spell since it's only useful in "Quest For Glory 3". Perhaps it's because he's from Tarna so he's used to thinking of that spell as useful. In any event, the hero already learned that spell from Keapon Laffin in Shapeir.

9. What three-headed dog guards the entrance to Hades?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 3)

Answer: Cerberus

Cerberus does not let any living people into Hades unless they fight him well enough to wear him out or unless they come up with a suitable bribe. This particular dog has strange taste in food.

10. What character shares his name with a character in "Space Quest 6"?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 2)

Answer: Magnum Opus

Magnum Opus shares his name with the big guy who guards the Shuttle Bay doors in "Space Quest 6". However, neither Scott Murphy nor Josh Mandel ever complained because "Space Quest" has gotten Sierra sued multiple times for rip offs. In that game, little is known about Magnum Opus other than that Roger Wilco owes him money. In "Quest For Glory 5", Magnum Opus is an egotistical bragging warrior who competes in the Rites of Rulership. He usually backs up his bragging though. In the arena, he beats everybody except Elsa. Elsa and Toro dislike him. Pholus really likes him as he is cut from a similar cloth.

11. Who is the villain causing all the problems in Silmaria?

From Quiz Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire

Answer: Minos

In theory one would think you should not know who the main villain is until near the end of the game. However, the introduction gives away that it's Minos. Unfortunately, while you can see the introduction, your character can't. Even if you know it's Minos, you can't do anything about it any sooner than if you didn't watch the introduction and didn't know it as Minos.

12. How many times must the thief win "Wheel of Fortune" to get points?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Sneaking and Stealing

Answer: 3

The thief gets points for playing the "Wheel of Fortune" and then he gets more points for beating it three times. Beating it three times also unlocks a new mode to play "Wheel of Fortune" in. You get a lot of money if you beat the new mode, but you don't get any points for it. Still, the "Wheel of Fortune" is one of the best ways to make money without putting yourself in danger.

13. What spell did the hero learn in "Quest For Glory 4" but apparently forgot in "Quest For Glory 5"?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Abra Kadabra

Answer: Glide

The hero learned the "Glide" spell from Dr. Cranium in Mordavia. That spell allows you to move horizontally over water. It would have been VERY useful in "Quest For Glory 5". It would have been so useful that the Coles decided it would have made the game too easy, so they dropped it. Thus, "Glide" ends up being as useful as "Juggling Lights" in the "Quest For Glory" series. Both spells are only used once in the entire series.

14. Who is the toughest fighter at the Arena?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Fighter Solutions

Answer: Elsa

Else grew up as a brigand because of a curse on her family. She grew up with the brigands of Spielberg, and to earn their respect she had become a master of her sword. She eventually became so good with her sword, that one thrust of her sword easily killed the hero in "Quest For Glory 1". But, while she is the toughest fighter in the arena, she does not instantly defeat the hero in the arena. This is a continuity error, although not for the reason you might think. It would make sense that she can instantly kill you in the first game but not the fifth game because the hero was a beginning hero in the first game and he gets better at what he does with each game; in the fifth game the hero is five times tougher than he was in the first game. However, "Quest For Glory 1" is not the only time Elsa can instantly kill the hero. This also happens if you attack her on Hydra Island. It makes no sense that she can instantly kill you on Hydra Island but not in the arena. Apparently in the arena she goes easy on everybody to give them a chance. Another slight continuity error is this when she kills you in the first game, the death message suggest that it was Baba Yaga's curse that made her so good with her sword. If that were true her fighting skills would have vanished when the curse was broken. She says that she actually became an even better fighter since the first game.

15. In addition to the Styx water, the hero gets water from what river to help Erasmus and Shakra?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 3)

Answer: Lethe

The wizards of Silmaria have consumed a drugged chocolate and fallen into an unnatural deep sleep that brings no rest to the body. Julanar tells the hero that the Lethe waters can cure them, so it is up to him to get those waters. The drug does not directly kill whoever consumes it. However, the victim must be fed food and water or he will die in his restless sleep. If the hero consumes the drugged chocolate, he will die because nobody will save him. The only one that could get the Lethe water for the hero is Elsa, and she won't find out until it's too late. You can't return to Hades after you leave.

16. What is the first rite?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 2)

Answer: Freedom

The first rite is the rite of freedom. Marete's fishing villages have been overwhelmed by invaders and nearly all the fishermen have fled. There are five fishing villages and five contestants. Each contestant must drive away the invaders in one fishing village and return to Silmaria with the sigil of the village as proof that they have succeeded.

17. What character summoned the hero away from his victory celebration Mordavia and into Silmaria?

From Quiz Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire

Answer: Erasmus

Summoning the hero to Silmaria was a good idea. Silmaria was in trouble and in need of the hero. Furthermore, the hero wanted to go to Silmaria. He never wanted to be in Mordavia. However, the timing was a little insensitive as was the lack of warning. If I were Erasmus, I would have waited until the victory ceremony was over before summoning. I also would have teleported myself to Mordavia to let the people there know I was summoning the hero to Silmaria. Those people must have been really confused when he magically disappeared.

18. How many paladin abilities can you have in this game?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Paladin

Answer: Ten

These abilities are: 1. Flaming Sword 2. Healing 3. Danger Sense 4. Honor Shield 5. Magic Ward 6. Destroy Undead 7. Peace 8. Sense 9. Holy Strength 10. Awe The flaming sword is the first one you get. You get it at the end of "Quest For Glory 2."

19. What spell do you learn from the Famous Adventurer?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Abra Kadabra

Answer: Thermonuclear Blast

If the wizard brings Hippocrene water to the Famous Adventurer, he will reward him with the Thermonuclear Blast spell. This spell destroys everything within ten miles of where it is cast, including the spellcaster. If you cast it, you will die. The only reason to cast this spell is it's the easiest way to defeat the dragon at the end. But if you use it there, not only will you die, all of your friends fighting the battle with you will also die. If you want to defeat the dragon in a way that's both easy and noble, I would recommend sacrificing yourself. You gets points for sacrificing yourself (not for casting Thermonuclear Blast) and your friends stay alive.

20. Who is the weakest fighter at the arena?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Fighter Solutions

Answer: Abduel

Abduel is one of several brothers of bodyguards who follow Ferrari wherever he goes. The hero saw him or one of his brothers patrolling the balcony at the front of the palace in Raseir in "Quest For Glory 2". It is never clear if that was him or which of his brothers that was since they all look, act, and talk alike and he isn't named in "Quest For Glory 2".

21. The hero cannot leave Hades until he has done what?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 3)

Answer: Talked with the Guardian

It actually is possible to leave Hades without doing the other three things. You can leave Hades without the Styx water, you just have to wait until Elsa wins the Rite. If you don't get the Lethe water and give it to Salim and Julanar, you'll be forfeiting points and Erasmus and Shakra won't be in the Hall of Kings during the game ending and they will be presumed dead. However, you don't have to save Erasmus and Shakra to win the game. You actually don't really have to deal with Cerberus at all. If you take one swing at him, he will chase you around. So you can lure him away from the entrance and then enter into Hades. In Hades, Cerberus will continue to chase you until you go down the ledge, and then he won't chase you anymore. However, if you're a fighter or paladin, this forfeits points, and even if you aren't it's just easier to bribe him. It is highly NOT recommended that you leave Hades without doing any of these things, but the only thing you have to do is talk with the Guardian.

22. What fishing village is the hero supposed to go to?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 2)

Answer: Naxos

The hero gets tasked with freeing Naxos by process of elimination after the other four contestants select a village. Kokeeno chooses Paros because that's where he was born. Gort and Elsa don't get a choice: their sponsors respectively choose Keros and Ios for them because each village is closest that where that sponsor and contestant spend most of their time. Fortunately, the hero has a good sponsor and did not have to worry about what Elsa and Gort had to worry about. It's not that the hero had a choice in his village (he really didn't because the other four contestants chose before him) and the hero had no reason to care which village to free even if he had the first choice, but the hero has good reason to be happy that Rakeesh did not choose for him. Other contestants wish they had freedom of choice. The hero can free the other fishing villages. In fact the hero should free the other fishing villages. You get points for each village he frees and there are many other items you can obtain. You can also obtain all the money you will ever need for the rest of the game if you free the other villages, both by finding it, and by selling all of the useless items to find to Pholus.

23. Who also comes to Silmaria and recommends the hero to the interim king?

From Quiz Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire

Answer: Rakeesh, but not Uhura

Rakeesh and Uhura always seemed to go together in the previous games. Uhura ran the Adventurer's Guild in Shapeir, where Rakeesh spent most of his time. They are both from Tarna. They are both fighters who do not use magic or steal. Hence, they are most useful guides for the fighter in their previous appearances. However, in "Quest For Glory 5" only Rakeesh appears. Rakeesh was summoned there by his son Shakra because they needed a hero and a new king, both of which Rakeesh used to be. However, Rakeesh has gotten old and his leg is too badly injured for these quests, so he recommends the hero in his place. Uhura stay in Tarna because she needs to take care of her son. She can't afford to be risking her life to become king or queen.

24. What paladin ability does Rakeesh use to learn that the hero has been altered by his adventures in Mordavia?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Paladin

Answer: Sense

When Rakeesh speaks with the hero, he often begins each phrase with "I sense...." How does he know exactly what the hero is feeling? He uses the sense ability. Rakeesh has been a paladin for a long time so his sense ability as well-developed. Shakra also seems to have some kind of sense ability (he can sense whether or not the hero knows magic), but he is not a paladin. He's either a wizard with some paladin abilities or he uses some kind of sense spell that the hero can never get. It's not all the useful if the hero uses it though. It doesn't help solve any puzzles nor does it help deal with any monsters.

25. Where is the thieves' guild?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Sneaking and Stealing

Answer: Under the bridge near the west gate

Ugarte, Arestes, and Bruno will all tell you that the guild is under the bridge to the west gate. Ugarte and Arestes will tell you to watch for traps. Bruno will tell you to knock. As you learned in "Quest For Glory", don't listen to Bruno when two other characters tell you the opposite of what he says (The way you know early on in the game that the Cloaked Man in the Dead Parrot Inn is Bruno is by checking your score and your deeds after you make the thief sign to him).

26. The wizard in the one class who has no need for the see-saw at Pegasus Peaks. What spell helps the wizard get up to the Pegasus nest?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Abra Kadabra

Answer: Levitate

The wizard can just walk up the pathway on the rock that the Pegasus nest is on and levitate to the top. He does not have to go to the other rock and swing Tarzan-style back to the Pegasus nest. The see-saw won't even be there if you are a wizard.

27. What item can the hero get from Tinos?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire" (Part 2)

Answer: Magic Leather Armor

Each fishing village has a different unique item that can be obtained from that village and no other fishing village. Tinos is one of the less rewarding fishing villages because you can buy magic leather armor or find it elsewhere. Some of the other fishing villages have items that cannot be bought or found anywhere else in the game except the Minos treasure room and you can't get there until much later in the game.

28. What minor character in a previous game now runs the bank of Silmaria?

From Quiz Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire

Answer: Sam, the beggar from "Quest For Glory 1"

Sam the beggar in "Quest For Glory 1" becomes Sam the banker in "Quest For Glory 5." This should be of no surprise to the player as in "Quest For Glory 1" Sam says that he is eventually going to move to Silmaria. You must put $1000 into the Rite of Rulership fund at the bank to enter the Rites of Rulership. You can also rob the bank twice if you're a thief or you can solve a bank robbery if you are a wizard or paladin.

29. What does awe do?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Paladin

Answer: Makes all enemies run away

When awe is used, enemies run away (or teleport away if they are magic centaurs) as fast as they can. It doesn't work on boss opponents like Claudius, Bruno, minotaur or dragon.

30. Who is the chief thief?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 5": Sneaking and Stealing

Answer: Arestes

The chief thief is a one-armed pirate named Arestes. He lost his arm at sea. The wizard and paladin can help him get his arm back. The thief can't. If the wizard or paladin help him get his arm back, he will stop being a thief and do good deeds for the rest of his life.
