Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What thief stat, introduced in "Quest For Glory 3," is useless in "Quest For Glory 5" unless you use the hard method to get the Pegasus feathers?

Answer: Acrobatics

The thief learned acrobatics from the rope vendor in Tarna in "Quest For Glory 3." It was useful for tight-rope walking in that game. It was also useful in "Quest For Glory 4," helping the hero get through the swamp and helping the hero escape some of the traps that come up after reading some of the rituals in the Dark One's cave. But you don't need it in "Quest For Glory 5."

The one place you can use it in "Quest For Glory 5" is Pegasus Peaks. If you have the rope and grapnel when you're at Pegasus Peaks, the seesaw won't be there. You'll have to use the rope and grapnel to go from one rock to the other. You can't do this unless you have very high acrobatics. If your acrobatics are a little too low, the hero will walk to his death. If your acrobatics are WAY too low, the hero won't even attempt the walk. You could keep repeating attempts to do that tight-rope walk and build up the Acrobatics stat, but all that's going to happen when your Acrobatics stat gets high enough is the hero will walk to his death. The only other place to get an Acrobatics' boost is in the water. If you swim for a little while, you get a temporary major boost in Acrobatics. However, this is very inconvenient to do and you won't be able to get the water-breathing amulet before you need the Pegasus feathers so you will unnecessarily lose some health and stamina if you try this. And if you put enough points into Acrobatics at the beginning of the game that the hero can do this walk successfully from the start, you've just wasted a lot of points. There is a better way to get to the Pegasus nest, acrobatics are completely useless elsewhere, and every other stat is far more useful in this game.

If you get the rope and grapnel before going to Pegasus Peaks, you should put it in you chest before going there. Then, the seesaw will be there. It's MUCH better to use the seesaw to get past that part.
2. After talking to Rakeesh at the beginning of the game, most characters get their Katta pin back. What does the thief get?

Answer: Magic grapnel

This means that the thief is the only character that gets back a useful item from Rakeesh to begin the game. The thief needs a rope and grapnel in this game. He doesn't really need a magic grapnel, but he would have to buy a new grapnel in the thieves' guild. By talking to Rakeesh, he gets the grapnel for free.

The Katta pin is completely useless in this game. All you can do with it is show it to the Kattas in town. They will call you "Katta-friend," but nothing else will come of it. Why Rakeesh, a paladin, gives the thief a better item than the other characters is beyond me.
3. How many times must the thief win "Wheel of Fortune" to get points?

Answer: 3

The thief gets points for playing the "Wheel of Fortune" and then he gets more points for beating it three times. Beating it three times also unlocks a new mode to play "Wheel of Fortune" in. You get a lot of money if you beat the new mode, but you don't get any points for it. Still, the "Wheel of Fortune" is one of the best ways to make money without putting yourself in danger.
4. How many players should you make the 'thief sign' to in this game?

Answer: 5

Interestingly, you use the thief sign in "Quest For Glory 5" as many times as you do in the first four games combined. You make it to Ferrari, Ugarte, Arestes, and Bruno for points and for learning the location of the Thieves' Guild, and you make the sign to Elsa so that she'll take you to the blackbird later in the game.
5. Where is the thieves' guild?

Answer: Under the bridge near the west gate

Ugarte, Arestes, and Bruno will all tell you that the guild is under the bridge to the west gate. Ugarte and Arestes will tell you to watch for traps. Bruno will tell you to knock. As you learned in "Quest For Glory", don't listen to Bruno when two other characters tell you the opposite of what he says (The way you know early on in the game that the Cloaked Man in the Dead Parrot Inn is Bruno is by checking your score and your deeds after you make the thief sign to him).
6. Who is the chief thief?

Answer: Arestes

The chief thief is a one-armed pirate named Arestes. He lost his arm at sea. The wizard and paladin can help him get his arm back. The thief can't. If the wizard or paladin help him get his arm back, he will stop being a thief and do good deeds for the rest of his life.
7. What new skill can you learn in this game?

Answer: Pickpocketing

It's amazing that the hero is a thief and he doesn't learn how to pick pockets until the last game in the series. He gets a pickpocket knife at the Thieves' Guild. He can use it on a dummy at the Thieves' Guild for practice, and he can pickpocket townspeople and merchants in the street, although this is risky. He can't pickpocket anyone in the Dead Parrot Inn though.

If he fails to pickpocket a townsperson, the townsperson will call the guard and the player will have a limited amount of time to leave the screen. If the player leaves the screen in time, he'll get away with it and all will be forgotten. Otherwise, game over.
8. How many merchants can you pickpocket?

Answer: 3

You can pickpocket Wolfie, Sarra, and Marrak by stealing their cheapest useful items. However, if you fail to pickpocket any of them, you will immediately lose the game without any chance to leave the screen.
9. How many times can you break into the bank?

Answer: 2

You can break into the bank twice without being caught. The first time you do it you will get $5,000. The amount of money that you get the second time depends on how long you wait. You can get a maximum of $1,000 the second time by waiting 10 days after the first time you did it. If you break into the bank a third time you will be immediately caught and arrested.
10. Aside from the bank, how many places can you break into at the beginning of the game?

Answer: 1

You can break into the house near the arena on Nob Hill at night. There you can get money, a dagger, some jewelry, and some items for fencing. This is the first time since "Quest For Glory 2" that you can do any fencing.

There will be other places to break into later in the game.
11. How many rites does the thief get credit for completing without raising alarm?

Answer: 1

The thief gets credit for getting inside the fortress at Sifnos without raising alarm and that's it. It's the wizard who gets credit for solving Naxos without alarm and while Atlantis can be solved without raising alarm, you get no points for doing so. You do get points for getting into Minos' treasure room without raising alarm when you look for the blackbird, but that is not related to the rites.
12. The real blackbird was originally where?

Answer: Spielburg

The real blackbird was in the brigand leader's treasure room in Spielburg in "Quest For Glory." The hero saw it there, but couldn't do anything with it there because he had to hurry out of the brigand leader's room to avoid death. Not to mention he didn't know about it while he was in Spielburg.

He learned of it later from Ferrari in Raseir. Ferrari came to Raseir to steal a blackbird from Khaveen. When he met the hero, he asked the hero to do it. The hero broke into Khaveen's bedroom, stole the blackbird, and brought it back to Ferrari only for them both to learn it wasn't the real one. Ferrari then told the hero that there were four blackbirds but only one of them had any real value.

The hero finds the other two fakes at the junk dealership in Tarna and in the monastery in Mordavia.

It isn't until "Quest For Glory 5" that he learns the location of the real one. It must have felt bad to know that the real one was in Spielberg and had he taken it while he was there, he could have given it to Ferrari in Raseir.
13. In the game, the thief is the least popular character among ladies.

Answer: True

The thief can only marry two ladies, Elsa or Nawar. He's the only character who cannot marry a girl from Hades. Neither Erana nor Katrina like thieves. Elsa doesn't mind thieves because she was a brigand for her entire childhood. Nawar isn't the most ethical person either. Furthermore, Nawar likes the thief because Nawar has actually seen the thief before. Neither the fighter, wizard, nor paladin was ever in the harem in Raseir, although the game seems to think otherwise. Also, the thief has to do more work to marry Nawar than the other three character classes do (the thief has to give the blackbird to Ferrari and steal it back).

The bright side is, while Nawar will marry any character, only the thief actually gets to see his marriage to Nawar in action during the ending (if you get the Chief Thief ending).
14. In this game, there is a statue that will turn whoever touches it into a bug, just like the small statue in the monastery in "Quest For Glory 4." Where is this statue in "Quest For Glory 5?"

Answer: Minos

This statue is in Minos' treasure room on an alcove above one of the trapped doors. The thief better have brought an extra bed sheet if he plans on taking this statue. If he doesn't, no big deal. It's not as important in this game as it was in the previous game because all you can do with it here is fence it. You can't use it to heal the Chief Thief like you could in "Quest For Glory 4."
15. If the hero promises to bring back the blackbird to Ferrari but never does it, what will happen if he becomes king?

Answer: Ferrari will get him overthrown

If the hero asks Ferrari about the blackbird after learning from Gnome Ann that the Gnome Inn is about to be re-possessed, Ferrari will make a deal with the hero: bring the blackbird to him and in return he will give you the deed and he will keep your duties as a thief a secret. From here on out you have to either bring the blackbird to Ferrari or you have to refuse to become king, or else you will be ousted and your reputation will be ruined.
