Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The fighter gets points for purchasing what sword?

Answer: Dragon Slayer

The Dragon Slayer sword is VERY expensive, but if you free all the fishing villages and sell all your junk to Pholus, you should have enough money to purchase the Dragon Slayer sword for yourself AND the Ice Diamond sword for Elsa and still have enough money for the rest of the game. Buying the Ice Diamond Sword for Elsa will be quite useful at the end of the game even if you do not intend to marry her.
2. The fighter can challenge all four of these people in the arena. He gets points for challenging three of them. Who does he NOT get points for challenging?

Answer: Kokeeno

The fighter can challenge five people at the arena and he gets points for challenging for of them. The only player who doesn't get points for challenging is Kokeeno. One could think this makes it easier to start the rites sooner. After the rites begin Kokeeno will be dead and you can't challenge him anymore. If you got points for challenging him, you would have to wait until day 6 to start the rites.

However, if this was the idea the Coles had in mind, it was not completely well-executed. You get points for challenging Magnum Opus, who will be dead once you go to Sifnos for rite 2.

This means you must wait until day 11 to start rite 2 if you are going for the perfect score, therefore the benefit of not having to wait for Kokeeno is neutralized.
3. Who is the toughest fighter at the Arena?

Answer: Elsa

Else grew up as a brigand because of a curse on her family. She grew up with the brigands of Spielberg, and to earn their respect she had become a master of her sword. She eventually became so good with her sword, that one thrust of her sword easily killed the hero in "Quest For Glory 1". But, while she is the toughest fighter in the arena, she does not instantly defeat the hero in the arena. This is a continuity error, although not for the reason you might think. It would make sense that she can instantly kill you in the first game but not the fifth game because the hero was a beginning hero in the first game and he gets better at what he does with each game; in the fifth game the hero is five times tougher than he was in the first game. However, "Quest For Glory 1" is not the only time Elsa can instantly kill the hero. This also happens if you attack her on Hydra Island. It makes no sense that she can instantly kill you on Hydra Island but not in the arena. Apparently in the arena she goes easy on everybody to give them a chance.

Another slight continuity error is this when she kills you in the first game, the death message suggest that it was Baba Yaga's curse that made her so good with her sword. If that were true her fighting skills would have vanished when the curse was broken. She says that she actually became an even better fighter since the first game.
4. Who is the weakest fighter at the arena?

Answer: Abduel

Abduel is one of several brothers of bodyguards who follow Ferrari wherever he goes. The hero saw him or one of his brothers patrolling the balcony at the front of the palace in Raseir in "Quest For Glory 2". It is never clear if that was him or which of his brothers that was since they all look, act, and talk alike and he isn't named in "Quest For Glory 2".
5. Can the hero be the champion at the arena?

Answer: Yes

After day 25 all of the regular fighters at the arena will have been the weekly champion except Abduel, and Abduel is never the champion. This means that the hero can enter the tournament as the champion. The hero and go to the Dead Parrot Inn after 5:00 PM on Day 26 and pay a small fee to sign up as the champion. If he does this, he will face most of the same fighters that he already challenged plus Abduel.

This is the only time that the hero can fight Abduel.
6. The fighter gets points for defeating Cerberus rather than bribing him.

Answer: True

The easy way to get past Cerberus is to bribe him. But the fighter gets points for using his sword on him and fighting him. You can't kill him, but running down his health bar three times will make him give up and he'll allow you to enter Hades and the fighter gets points.
7. The fighter is the only class that has a reason to go swimming other than the Rite of Peace.

Answer: True

All character classes can go swimming whenever they want to build up their swimming skill. However, there is no reason to ever do this. You have to learn basic swimming for the Rite of Peace, but basic swimming is good enough and there were never intended to be any games in the series after "Dragon Fire."

The fighter, on the other hand does have a reason to go swimming: to kill a salamander. In all "Quest For Glory" games, the fighter gets rewarded for killing one of each bad guy in the game. There are no Salamanders in Atlantis, so the fighter must explore elsewhere to find one.

Even as a fighter, there is no reason to go swimming at the docks in Silmaria. There are no salamanders there either. I have no idea why they let you do that.
8. How does the fighter deal with the tritons?

Answer: He kills them

The tritons are not true bad guys. They were attacked by Minos and his men, who sailed on ships bearing the Silmaria flag. They responded to these attacks by attacking all boats from Silmaria as they believed Silmaria started the war. They're just as confused and disgusted about what's happening as Silmaria is. So you should not be killing them unless you have no other option.

Unfortunately, the fighter has no other option as he has no skills other than killing people with his sword, so he must kill the tritons.

He gets points for killing a triton, a remora, and a dragonfish too, all of which can be found in Atlantis.
9. The fighter is the only character that can marry Elsa.

Answer: False

Elsa will marry anyone. However, the fighter is the one who can do this most conveniently without forfeiting one of the rites. To marry Elsa, you have to either forfeit the Rite of Valor (Give the teeth to Elsa and let her win it) or you have to challenge her in the arena.

The game can easily be completed by day 10, so waiting around until day 20 to fight Elsa in the arena is a major inconvenience for the character classes that have no reason to do it. However, the fighter gets points for challenging everybody at the arena anyway, so he has no reason to forfeit the Rite of Valor.
10. Who can't the fighter marry?

Answer: Erana

Fighters usually reach their goals by killing people with their swords. Erana does not like violence, so she will not marry a fighter.
