Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There is an old wizard and a rat who were going to appear in every "Quest For Glory" game until "Wages of War" was added to the series. In "Quest For Glory 5", however, the magic user sees them more than anyone else in the game. Who are these characters?

Answer: Erasmus and Fenrus

Erasmus is a joke-telling wizard and Fenrus is his joke-telling familiar. They are both staples in the "Quest For Glory" series. They appear in four out of five games. In this game, they are usually never seen during gameplay. They are only seen at the very beginning and at the end. An exception is if you are playing as a Wizard. Thanks to the Trigger spell, the wizard can visit Erasmus several times during the game. He can watch Erasmus put on a show for him, he can get the Whirlwind spell from him, he can solve a bank robbery with his help, and he can visit Fenrus after Erasmus gets drugged and get the drugged chocolates from Fenrus (although the latter case in kind of useless since the hero will get a box of drugged chocolates in his room anyway and he only needs one, but he still gets the points for getting the chocolates from Fenrus). The paladin can also solve the bank robbery, but he cannot get the spell or visit Fenrus after Erasmus gets drugged.

This is not the only time in the series the magic user sees these two comedic characters more than the other classes. In "Quest For Glory 2", the magic user sees these two characters in the WIT hall. The fighter and thief never go to the WIT hall so they don't see these guys at all in Shapeir.
2. How many new spells does Shakra sell?

Answer: Three

Shakra sells "Boom", "RIP", and "Fascination". All of these spells are pretty useless, but you get points for buying them. He also sells "Juggling Lights", although I don't know why he has that spell since it's only useful in "Quest For Glory 3". Perhaps it's because he's from Tarna so he's used to thinking of that spell as useful.

In any event, the hero already learned that spell from Keapon Laffin in Shapeir.
3. What spell did the hero learn in "Quest For Glory 4" but apparently forgot in "Quest For Glory 5"?

Answer: Glide

The hero learned the "Glide" spell from Dr. Cranium in Mordavia. That spell allows you to move horizontally over water. It would have been VERY useful in "Quest For Glory 5". It would have been so useful that the Coles decided it would have made the game too easy, so they dropped it. Thus, "Glide" ends up being as useful as "Juggling Lights" in the "Quest For Glory" series. Both spells are only used once in the entire series.
4. What spell do you learn from the Famous Adventurer?

Answer: Thermonuclear Blast

If the wizard brings Hippocrene water to the Famous Adventurer, he will reward him with the Thermonuclear Blast spell. This spell destroys everything within ten miles of where it is cast, including the spellcaster. If you cast it, you will die. The only reason to cast this spell is it's the easiest way to defeat the dragon at the end.

But if you use it there, not only will you die, all of your friends fighting the battle with you will also die. If you want to defeat the dragon in a way that's both easy and noble, I would recommend sacrificing yourself. You gets points for sacrificing yourself (not for casting Thermonuclear Blast) and your friends stay alive.
5. The wizard in the one class who has no need for the see-saw at Pegasus Peaks. What spell helps the wizard get up to the Pegasus nest?

Answer: Levitate

The wizard can just walk up the pathway on the rock that the Pegasus nest is on and levitate to the top. He does not have to go to the other rock and swing Tarzan-style back to the Pegasus nest. The see-saw won't even be there if you are a wizard.
6. One of the most useful and important spells in the first four "Quest For Glory" games is completely useless in the 5th game. Which spell is this?

Answer: Fetch

Fetch is one of the first spells the Hero ever learns. He buys it from Zara in Spielberg in "Quest For Glory 1". This spell is used to solve many puzzles in the first four games in the series. This make sit seem strange that it serves no purpose in "Quest For Glory 5". I have heard it can be used to fetch Pegasus feathers, but you have to levitate to the top of that peak before you can use the spell, and from that point on, why use Fetch when you can just walk on up and take the feathers without wasting any more mana?
7. When going to science island, most character types throw a rock at the lever to get it going. The wizard has no throwing skill, so he must use what spell to get the lever going?

Answer: Force Bolt

The Force Bolt packs a punch that makes it move things. Hence it's not just a combat spell. It is used for solving puzzles too.
8. The centaur wizards have magic staffs. What spell can be used to blow up the magic staffs and the centaur wizards?

Answer: Trigger

As we learned in "Quest For Glory 3", casting trigger on a magical staff blows up the staff and whoever is holding it. The downside to defeating the centaur wizards in this way is that it also destroys everything they carry, meaning you cannot get the "Augment" spell from them after they blow up. However, while the Augment spell is kinda useful at the end of the game, it's debatable whether it's really worth it to do all the extra work you need to do to kill the centaur wizard in any other way. There is a deed for getting the "Augment" spell though. If you have trigger you should definitely use it on the centaurs in Minos' palace. If you want the Augment spell you should get it on Sifnos. If you get it from one of Minos' centaurs you will not get the deed for it.

Interestingly though, while you can get a magical staff in "Quest For Glory 5", the game does not allow you to trigger it and blow yourself up. You can do this in "Quest For Glory 3" during the battle with Shaman but you can't do this any other time.
9. What spell do you use to help Elsa beat the Hydra?

Answer: Flame Dart

The wizard is the one class in which the game forces you to be the one burning hydra while Elsa fights it. This is because the Hydra is immune to magical spells and can only be injured by a magical weapon. A wizard can have a magical weapon but the game doesn't expect you to have a magical weapon so you must torch the Hydra with flame dart.

This is the one time in the entire series where you MUST use flame dart to do something necessary to beat the game. Normally it's an optional combat spell.
10. Where do you get magical wood?

Answer: The Dryads

To get magical wood in this game, you must give hippocrene water to all of the dryads and dance with them. The dryads will then reward the wizard with magical wood. Once you get magical wood though, you better hurry back to Shakra because he will be drugged soon after you get this. Unlike the previous two games, the staff is not required to beat "Quest For Glory 5", but if you have the staff it saves mana.

Although all characters get points for dancing with the dryads, the wizard is the only character that gets a reward besides that.
11. What spell can you learn from Erana in this game?

Answer: First Aid

With the exception of Aura you learn all of these spells from Erana in one way or another. However, the other spells you learned in previous games. First Aid is the spell she teaches you in "Quest For Glory 5". This spell can be used to restore yourself or others to full health.

It really isn't necessary though because by this point in the game you should have all the healing pills and potions you could ever need for the entire game, both for yourself and for others. In addition, if you get this spell, you've forfeited the chance to get another more useful spell.
12. What spell can you learn from Katrina?

Answer: Dragon Fire

If the wizard brings Katrina back to life, she will teach the hero the spell that gives the game name. Dragon Fire is the spell with which Ad Avis indirectly killed Katrina with in "Quest For Glory 4" after he cast it at the hero, knowing Katrina would sacrifice herself to save him. Actually, Ad Avis can kill the hero with this spell if he kills Katrina when she lies helplessly in her coffin during the day. Ad Avis can also kill the hero with this spell in the ritual chamber in Raseir in AGD Interactive's remake of "Quest For Glory 2", if the hero breaks the ritual and casts reversal, but does not finish off Ad Avis in time. Katrina taught the spell to Ad Avis and will teach it to the hero if he frees her and visits her twice.

It's the most powerful offensive spell the hero will ever learn. It's fun to cast and it's cool and if you've played a VGA game in which Ad Avis appears, it's cool to finally have a spell that Ad Avis once used against you. But it's not as useful as one might think. It takes A LOT of mana to use and can kill the hero if cast incorrectly (and it's easy to cast it incorrectly because it's hard to predict what the thing will do) and it can't be used against the dragon. For these reasons I would say the Forst Bite is the overall better spell. That said, "Dragon Fire" is far and away the most useful spell you can learn in "Quest For Glory 5" even if that's not saying much.
13. How many rites does the wizard get points for completing non-violently?

Answer: Two

The wizard gets points for solving getting the sigil of Naxos non-violently and for solving the Rite of Peace non-violently. The tritons are not true enemies; they were provoked but the game's main villain. Hence, the game doesn't want you to kill them. It is a mystery why the wizard is the only class that gets points for getting through Naxos non-violently.
14. What is the Shrink spell used for?

Answer: Avoiding combat

The shrink spell is used on bad guys that attack you. Once in enemy is shrunk, the damage it does to you is greatly reduced. It is used for solving no puzzles, but you can avoid combat by shrinking enemies. However, if you want to avoid combat, there are better spells for that (namely "Calm").
15. The wizard is the true ladies man of the series; he can marry any one of the four girls.

Answer: True

The wizard is the one character class that can marry all four ladies. To clarify, even he can't marry them all in one game, but he can marry them all. This is because Erana and Katrina are both Wizards, so they love fellow magic users and Elsa and Nawar will marry anyone. The Paladin can't marry Katrina and the fighter can't marry Erana. The thief can't marry either girl from Hades.
