If you chose French as your answer it was not a bad guess. Cambodia was under French colonial administration from the late 19th century until 1953. Answer: Very confused

I have to admit, I love this phrase, which translates as "like a cow standing before a new gate" and is used to describe someone who is very confused. German does have some great animal idioms, including "Das ist ein Katzensprung" meaning "that's a cat's jump", the English equivalent of which would be "it's a stone's throw away" and "Ich glaube, mein Schwein pfeift!", used to express disbelief at a tale, and translating as "I believe my pig is whistling!".

From Quiz Swahili and "The Lion King"

Answer: Gift

In the movie, Nala is the one who finds Simba after he runs away. Her name is appropriate because she (with the help of Rafiki) convinces Simba to return to Pride Rock to claim his place as the rightful king. Happy in Swahili is furaha; love is upendo and peace is amani. (Contributed by Ilona_ritter)

145. The dog is pretty lazy, but in what Celtic language is he too slow to stop the quick brown fox jumping over him? léimeann an sionnach donn gasta thar an madra leisciúil

From Quiz The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog

Answer: Irish

Irish is a Celtic language, which is part of the Indo-European family. It has around 170,000 native speakers, with another 2 million or so around the world having it as another language. Originating on the island of Ireland, Irish was the first language of the majority of the Irish population until the 18th century, when English began to subsume it. Irish has traditionally used the Latin alphabet since it was first written down in the 8th century, although the modern Irish alphabet does not include eight letters from the Latin alphabet. Until the mid-20th century, Gaelic script, a form of typeface designed for printing Gaelic languages, was widely used in Ireland, until superseded by modern typefaces. Today, it is largely used for decorative typesetting.

146. What do kobasica, worst, saucisse, Wurst, loukániko, kielbasa, and linguiça mean in English?

"Kobasica" is the Bosnian and Croatian word for sausage, as is "worst" in Dutch, "saucisse" in French, "Wurst" in German, "loukániko" in Greek, "kielbasa" in Polish and linguiça" in Portuguese. The word sausage found its way into Modern English from the Old North French "saussice" which derived from the Latin "salsica" meaning sausage, which was constructed from the Latin "salsicus" meaning seasoned with salt, which sausage usually is.

147. "Chi nasce matto, non guarisce mai." A near-literal translation of this Italian expression would be what?

From Quiz Mai, Oh Mai

This expression has echoes in English ones such as "A leopard doesn't change his spots" and the "once a _____, always a _____" idiom.

148. As mentioned in this quiz's title, Swahili's name can be translated as "language of the coast". Which body of water's coast does the name refer to?

From Quiz Swahili - The Language of the Coast

Answer: Indian Ocean

Though not spoken exclusively in coastal areas, Swahili is the official language of Kenya and Tanzania, both of which border the Indian Ocean. Swahili is also the lingua franca of the African Great Lakes region, which - besides Kenya and Tanzania - includes the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Malawi. In addition, Swahili is taught as an optional language in South Africa, though it is not one of the nation's 11 official languages. It is also the only African language among the official working languages of the African Union. Though only between 5 and 15 million people speak Swahili as their mother tongue, the number of those who speak it as a second language is estimated to be around 130 million.
