Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. ROOD

Answer: back door

As you can see rood spelt backwards is door. Therefore it is a back door. The idea of these puzzles is you try to figure out the meaning and it is very unlikely it is just going to be the word that is mentioned.
2. Work out this: _dea

Answer: no idea

In this question there is no i. So if you break it down there is no i dea. Put all together it means no idea.

The other possible answer is nearly dead as you are just missing the d on the end which makes it nearly dead but not quite.
3. Try working this puzzle out: wa t e r

Answer: waterfall

In this puzzle the word water is going down. Water going down isn't one word neither does it make sense. So try and change the word going down to other words and see if they fit. Soon you should get to fall and waterfall is a word so it has to be that!
4. Try this one: M O E K

Answer: Ok by me

Reading down, there are two words spelling me and ok. A famous catchphrase is "ok by me". This puzzle has taken that quite literally and the word ok is next to, or by the word me.
5. What could this be I wonder: ______ reading _______

Answer: Reading between the lines

There are two lines and the word reading is between them. The famous phrase here is "reading between the lines". Again this puzzle has taken it quite literally and the word reading is between two lines.
6. 0,...,2,3,4,5

Answer: no one

This puzzle has again taken the phase no one quite literally as there is no 1. Get it?

The clever alternative "won out" employs a homophone.
7. This is the hardest one so good luck: ci ii

Answer: See eye to eye

This is one of the harder questions in this quiz but when you know the answer it is pretty simple. If you read it out you get this:
c i i i
But thinking about these word wise puzzles and think about their homophones:
see eye eye eye
Then you look at the position of them
see eye eye eye
So already you have see eye and then you count the other ones and there are 2 eyes:
See eye 2 eyes
It cannot be see eye 2 eyes so again think about their homophones and you get:
see eye to eyes
By now, if you haven't already got it the famous catchphrase is "see eye to eye".
8. Easier than the one before but still pretty hard: tent gent

Answer: An undercover man

It's a bit like a bad joke really! Gent is the abbreviation of the word gentleman which could also be shortened down as man. Tent gives you cover and the word tent is on top of the word gent. So it is an undercover man.
9. Try thinking what is missing: orseman

Answer: headless horseman

The word in full is horseman but this wordwise doesn't have a h at the beginning. H could stand for head and it is missing it, or you could have just assumed it as a headless horseman as this character is very famous. Well done if you got it!
10. OTSQ1

Answer: Back to square one

The word 'to' is backwards so that is where we get the word back from. SQ is an abbreviation of the word square, and the number 1 is just the number 1. So all together it is back to square 1.
11. BASE ____

Answer: baseline

The answer is exactly what you see. You can see the word base and a line. Therefore it has to be baseline.
12. Work out the meaning of: standing MISS

Answer: A big misunderstanding

This is my favorite one! If you look at it you can see the word standing in small letters and the word miss underneath standing in big letters. If you put it into the sentence there is a big (this is why it is in capitals) "miss" under the word "standing". When put all together you get a big misunderstanding.
13. man bored

Answer: man overboard

The word "man" is over the word "bored". Put it together it means man over bored but that doesn't make sense so you look at the homophones. Man over board. Changing bored to board. Put the words together because the hint tells you to and you get man overboard.
14. Read hint: e l g g u r t s l l i h

Answer: an uphill struggle

"An uphill struggle" is a famous saying. The word hill and struggle is going upwards. Therefor it is an uphill struggle.
15. Easy one at the end - hope you all get this right: cycle cycle cycle

Answer: tricycle

An easy one to end after all of those questions i do hope you got this one right. There is the word cycle three times. Therefore it is a tricycle.
