Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The picture shows a wordwise clue for what, commonly found in homes with a basement?

Answer: Flight of stairs

You'll notice these are "stair birds", as they have a pair of wings each. This means they're in flight, since you can see they are high in the air. Therefore, we have the flight of stairs!

My sister once fell down a flight of stairs on her way to the basement. She hasn't descended as quickly since.
2. When you are tired, you tend to do what, which is indicated by the picture?

Answer: Fall asleep

The picture shows the word 'asleep', which has evidently not noticed the cliff it was walking towards. One false step and asleep did fall.

Falling asleep is quite the wonderful feeling, unless you are driving.
3. What friendly food! Based on the picture, what breakfast food may be speaking to us?

Answer: French toast

Looks like the bread stayed in the toaster a bit too long; he has started to burn! This piece of toast is saying hello in his native French tongue. He must be a French toast.

I don't know about you, but I feel I have been lied to. French toast, French fries, French dip, and French dressing were all invented somewhere other than France!
4. Look at the picture wordwise, and say what you see. Reflect on it. What is the answer?

Answer: Mirror image

The word 'image' here is simply mirrored. A mirror image is something identical to the original, but flipped around. For instance, lift your right hand when looking in a mirror. Which hand is your mirror image lifting?

I can write in cursive with my left hand (I'm left-handed, after all), but when I try with my right hand, I seem to write backwards, a perfect cursive mirror image.
5. Can you determine the common ailment that has been put into a wordwise picture clue here?

Answer: Heartburn

The word 'heart' is on fire, and fire does nothing better than burn. Fortunately for us, heartburn really has nothing to do with our heart. Instead, it is acid in our esophagus. Whether caused by the food we eat, food we don't eat, or other reasons, heartburn can be quite the unpleasant experience.

I once had heartburn bad enough I couldn't take a breath. The doctor made me drink a medicine and I was finally able to breathe!
6. The picture wordwise shows which drink, which is often garnished with celery?

Answer: Bloody Mary

A Bloody Mary is a mixed drink made with tomato juice, vodka, spices and other flavorings. The drink is sometimes called the world's most complex cocktail. Perhaps this is because it can taste completely different every time you make it. The basic recipe includes tomato juice, vodka, and lemon juice, but the spices added can vary greatly. Often there is Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco sauce in the drink.

No no, the picture is not of Mary the Vampire. Although that would explain why 'MARY' is so bloody.
7. An American sitcom is represented by the picture wordwise clue. What is the name of the show?

Answer: Growing Pains

You will notice the letters of 'pains' quite obviously enlarging as it goes on. Of course, this means these pains are indeed growing!

"Growing Pains" aired from 1985-1992. It followed a family from Long Island, New York, with a working mom and stay-at-home dad/psychiatrist.

When I was a younger kid, I would often complain of 'growing pains'. The achy, painful feeling in the legs is common in younger children and preteens who are actually growing,
8. If you look at the picture wordwise, you'll notice it hints at a certain game. What game is it?

Answer: Dominoes

All those "Dom" in O's make for dominoes.

Dominoes is a fun game using blocks with a certain number of pips on each half. These blocks can be lined up to match numbers and score points. There are countless varieties of domino related games, but my personal favorite isn't really even a game. Many a child's favorite thing to do is line dominoes up on their sides so they knock each other over in long chains. Of course, I'm 21 and still enjoy this domino effect.
9. A lot of my friends cannot eat gluten. Which of these staples is essential to a gluten-free household, which is conveniently wordwised in picture form here?

Answer: Tapioca flour

I love wordplay, don't you? This adorable little tapioca flower will make a great addition among my rice flowers and all-purpose flowers.

Tapioca flour can be used in baking many things such as breads, cookies, and cakes. It is also commonly uses in tapioca pudding and an African porridge called fufu. Tapioca flour is just one of many flour varieties that can replace gluten-rich flours, but some of these flours need something extra to keep your food sticking together (this is usually gluten's job). Often adding another egg or adding a small amount of xantham gum should do the trick.
10. A popular Disney song has been wordwised in the picture. What is the name of this watery toon tune?

Answer: Part of Your World

If only the full words were spelled out, but only part of 'your world' was visible!

"Part of Your World" was one of the songs sung by Jodi Benson as Ariel from Disney's "The Little Mermaid". It is quite hard to believe the film was released in 1989. The iconic song Ariel sung in her grotto was quite entertaining for kids and adults alike: with a collection of thingamabobs, gadgets, and gizmos-a-plenty, what's not to love about the song?
