Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which person was a co-host of the 1974 Academy Award broadcast when Robert Opel streaked (yes, in the buff!) across the stage during the ceremony?

Answer: David Niven

In 1974, "The Sting" won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Jack Lemmon won the Academy Award for Best Actor, but they were both upstaged by an unplanned event. Robert Opel, a photographer and art gallery owner, streaked across the stage on live television while making a peace sign with one hand. Co-Host David Niven remarked, "The only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings."

Burt Reynolds, Diana Ross, and John Huston hosted the 46th Academy Awards in 1974 along with David Niven (1910-1983). David Niven appeared in films such as "A Matter of Life and Death" (1946) and "Around the World in 80 Days" (1956). Although Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, and Johnny Carson all hosted the Academy Awards broadcasts in multiple years, they did not in 1974.

Patrick Stewart (born 1940), Michael Caine (born 1933), and Christopher Eccleston (born 1964) are all actors but did not star in the remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair".
6. In a 1973 episode of the BBC series "Omnibus", Christopher Cazenove reenacted famous scenes involving various British heroic characters. Who was not one of the characters he portrayed in the episode?

Answer: Robin Hood

Christopher Cazenove (1943-2010) was an actor of stage, screen, and television. Tom Brown first appeared in the 1857 novel "Tom Brown's School Days" by Thomas Hughes. The book follows his experiences at Rugby School, an English public school. The novel has been adapted for film and television on several occasions. Richard Hannay is a character created by John Buchan for use in various novels including "The Thirty-Nine Steps" (1915) which was adapted for a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1939. "Bulldog" Drummond was a character created by H.C. McNeile for several novels.

Cazenove did not portray Robin Hood in the television episode. He did portray a character from "Beau Geste", a 1924 military novel by P.C. Wren which has been adapted for film on several occasions.
7. Sometimes a celebrity can be part of a popular franchise. Which actor portrayed the romantic interest of Lara Croft in the 2001 film "Tomb Raider"?

Answer: Daniel Craig

He also played a role in the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London that year.

George Lazenby first became well known for appearing in a commercial for Big Fry Chocolate. He also starred in a critically acclaimed Italian film "Who Saw Her Die?" (1972).

Although Mel Giblson (born 1956), Chris Hemsworth (born 1983), and Russell Crowe (born 1964) are all actors, none of them were married to Pam Shriver from 2002-2008.
9. Celebrities are sometimes known for how they are related to other celebrities. Which actor is the son of actress Maggie Smith?

Answer: Toby Stephens

Dame Maggie Smith (born 1934) is a British actress who may be best known for portraying Minerva McGonagall in eight "Harry Potter" films and Violet Crawley in "Downton Abbey" (2010-2015) and for the 1968 film "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". 10. Which fictional character links the previous answers?

Answer: James Bond

Let us start with two people who are well known for portraying James Bond but where not mentioned in this quiz.

Sean Connery (born 1930) portrayed the spy in "Dr. No" (1962), "From Russia with Love" (1963), "Goldfinger" (1964), "Thunderball" (1965), "You Only Live Twice" (1967), "Diamonds are Forever" (1971), and "Never Say Never Again" (1983). He has also starred in "The Untouchables" (1987), "Highlander" (1986), and "Marnie" (1964).

Roger Moore (1927-2017) portrayed Bond in "Live and Let Die" (1973), "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "Moonraker" (1979), "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), "Octopussy" (1983), and "A View to a Kill" (1985). He also portrayed the Simon Templar in the television series "The Saint" (1962-1969).

Now onto the answers to this quiz.

David Niven portrayed the retired Bond in "Casino Royale" (1967), a spoof not made by EON productions and loosely based on the Ian Fleming novel. It has been said that David Niven was author Ian Fleming's first choice to play James Bond.

Barry Nelson portrayed Bond in an 1954 episode of the Television how "Climax!" that adapted "Casino Royale". In the episode, James/"Jimmy" Bond was an US secret agent who worked with the British Clarence (not Felix) Leiter.

Timothy Dalton portrayed the spy in "The Living Daylights" (1987) and "License to Kill" (1989). Legal battles unrelated to Timothy Dalton held up the production of further "Bond" films until he chose to move onto other roles.

Bob Holness voiced James Bond in a 1956 South African radio production of "Moonraker".

Pierce Brosnan portrayed Bond in "GoldenEye" (1995), "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997), "The World is Not Enough" (1999), and "Die Another Day" (2002).

Christopher Cazenove portrayed James Bond in the episode "The British Hero" of "Omnibus". Cazenove re-enacted several scenes including the scene from "Goldfinger" where Bond is strapped to a table as a dangerous object approaches him although in this case it was a circular saw blade rather than a laser beam.

Daniel Craig portrayed James Bond in "Casino Royale" (2006), "Quantum of Solace" (2008), "Skyfall" (2012), and "Spectre" (2015), which in some ways rebooted the series. His appearance in the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony was also in the character of James Bond.

George Lazenby acted as James Bond in the 1969 film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". He chose at the time not to portray the character in other films, a decision he later regretted.

Toby Stephens voiced James Bond in three radio productions produced by BBC Radio 4: "Dr. No" (2008), "Goldfinger" (2010), and "From Russia with Love" (2012). He had previously portrayed a villain in the 2002 Bond film "Die Another Day".

It should be mentioned that this list could be expanded even further if other individuals who have portrayed James Bond--including stunt actors and voice actors in video games--were included.
