Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whether it be an honest man, an unscrupulous man, or someone in between, Peter plays all roles convincingly. In which 2005-2006 TV series did Peter play a man trying to become the Vice President of the USA, opposite the country's first female Commander in Chief?

Answer: Commander in Chief

Peter joined the cast of "Commander in Chief" in 2005 as Warren Keaton. Warren was the choice of President Allen (played be Geena Davis), though he and she hadn't always seen eye to eye in the past. Warren was a strong, honest man and a good pick over Donald Sutherland's Nathan Templeton.
I only made this fill in the blank because I gave away the answer.
2. In the hit film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", Coyote played a man known as Keys. Is it true that this character did NOT appear in a scene with the main character, Elliot?

Answer: No

Keys appeared briefly in the opening of the film, as he also did in the book. He was one of the men searching out E.T. and his crew. This team caused E.T. to miss the take off of his space ship. Keys later appeared with Elliot, explaining that he'd dreamed of meeting E.T. since he was ten years old.
Peter Coyote was born in New York in 1942 as Peter Cohon.
3. Coyote is Peter's stage name. What is his real last name?

Answer: Cohon

Robert Peter Cohon created the stage name of Coyote when he decided to become an actor in his thirties. He married Marilyn McCann in the late 1970s, and they had two children together before divorcing in the late 1990s. He later married Stephanie Pleet, the one time Executive Director of the San Francisco Film Commission.
4. Peter has been known to have a captivating voice, and so has narrated many TV advertisements (commercials). But, in 2005 Peter narrated a recap episode of which extremely popular American TV series?

Answer: Lost

"Destination Lost" aired in September of 2005, with Peter doing a compelling recap of season one. In addition to "Lost", Peter has narrated many shows. Some places his voice can be heard are on "Nature", "Voices of the Sierra Tarahumara", "Sex in the 20th Century", " Titanic: Breaking New Ground", and "National Geographic Explorer".
5. Having lead an interesting life, it's unsurprising that Peter faced controversial times and decisions. What was the name of the San Fransisco based group that he joined, who offered free food, medical help and housing to runaways?

Answer: The Diggers

This time in his life was in the late sixties through the seventies, and was considered a hippie like, counter-cultural experience. The Diggers, known as an anarchist movement, can be described as bohemian meets civil rights. This radical group have been known to have coined the phrases "today is the first day of the rest of your life" and "do your own thing".
6. The character's name was Dennis Ryland. Dennis was the head of a Seattle branch of NTAC (National Threat Assessment Command) during this show's first season. Dennis returned to town in season two's finale, and went on to play a pivotal role during season three. What was the name of this Sci-Fi channel series that centered around people taken away mysteriously, only to be returned years later exactly the age they'd been and with a special new power?

Answer: The 4400

"The 4400" debuted in July of 2004 with six episodes that centered around the disappearance of our main characters for season one and their return, along with thousands of others to Highland Beach, Washington. Peter played Dennis Ryland, the very ambitious foil for Tom and Diana (this series' Mulder and Scully). Dennis went from ambitious and concerned to extremely dangerous to all 4400 returnees.

He played a part in developing the inhibitor given to almost all returnees that dampened or ceased their special abilities- eventually causing the death of some.

In season three, Dennis joined forces with the only child conceived between two abductees while they were gone. Isabelle was the most powerful of all returnees, though she was not actually taken.

She had been conceived in the future and was the daughter of Lily and Richard.
7. In 2006 a new drama gained a foothold in America on ABC television. "Brothers and Sisters" spent season one unfolding the story of the wealthy Walker clan, in the aftermath of the patriarchal death of William. Toward the end of season one, Peter Coyote came in to play a love interest for Sally Field's character Nora. How did Nora initially meet Peter's character Mark August?

Answer: he was her professor

Mark August was the charming writing professor that Nora first met in season one's "All in the Family". Mark was smart, charming, her own age, and a widower. He flattered Nora from the word "go", and she agreed to date him. He turned out to be less 'warm hearted widower' and more 'say whatever it takes' older man.

She gave him a second chance after she discovered he had dated a young classmate, and then dumped her abruptly to date Nora. She finally called it quits in "Grapes of Wrath", when she found out that he'd spent time kissing her nemesis Holly. Holly, played by Patricia Wettig, had spent twenty years having an affair with Nora's husband, William, who'd died in the series pilot.
8. In April 2007, Peter became a an ordained priest, but what kind of priest?

Answer: Buddhist

I knew he was a Zen Buddhist, but discovered this neat little tidbit off of the news section on his website. As of 2007, Peter's practiced Buddhism for 32 years, though he comes from a Jewish background. He was ordained by Lew Richmond, and named Hosho Jishi. Hosho Jishi translates to "dharma voice- compassionate warrior".
9. Peter, born in New York, speaks English, Spanish and French. In what decade was he born?

Answer: 1940s

Peter graduated from Grinnell College in 1964. He earned a BA in English Literature.
10. In a dynamic attempt to see law enforcement's side into the mind of serial killers, the Fox network put out a short lived series in 2005 called "The Inside". Peter played a character that headed up a small FBI division called the Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit. Virgil Webster (Coyote) brought into his team a secret weapon in rookie Agent Rebecca Locke (Rachel Nichols). Why was Rebecca so important to their team?

Answer: she'd once been abducted by a killer

When Rebecca was ten years old, she had been abducted and held captive for many months before escaping. The person who took her was a serial child murderer, who I believe had never been caught. Peter's character, Agent Webster, had hand picked her to join the team, which put off its existing members. Web knew that Rebecca had a special, keen understanding into the mind of a psychotic criminal, but he kept that information to himself. I believe only six episodes ever aired, with much potential left to be explored. In 2005, CBS offered us another take on this form of law enforcement with the beautiful ensemble that was "Criminal Minds". "Criminal Minds" had more jurisdiction, with the unit being the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) out of Quantico.
