Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I will start with a lulu of a question. In what 1966 movie starring Sidney Poitier was the title of the movie also a number one song?

Answer: To Sir, With Love

The title song of the 1966 film featuring Poitier was sung by Scottish singer, Lulu, and it hit number one on the charts in November of 1967. Poitier also starred in the 1955 movie, "The Blackboard Jungle", which featured the number one hit "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets.
2. Speaking of Sidney Poitier, he won an Oscar for the 1963 movie "Lilies of the Field." It's not unusual for people to forget that the person he beat out was Albert Finney, but can you remember the name of the character that Finney portrayed?

Answer: Tom Jones

Albert Finney played the title role in the 1963 film "Tom Jones" based on the Henry Fielding novel. I hope you did not get this confused with the famous Welsh singer, Tom Jones, who had a hit song entitled, "It's Not Unusual."
3. Three of the following characters all had best friends, or sidekicks that were dogs. Which of the following did NOT have a dog?

Answer: Yogi Bear

Let's see . . .Shaggy's best friend was a dog named Scooby Doo. Bart Simpson has Santa's Little Helper. (I know some may argue that Milhouse is his best friend, but I think his best friend is his dog)And of course, Charlie Brown had Snoopy. That's everybody. Oh wait . . .Yes, I guess I did make a boo-boo. Yogi's side kick was a bear.
4. Which movie came first?

Answer: The Egg and I

"A Chicken every Sunday" was released in 1948. "The Chicken Chronicles" was 1977 and "Chicken Run" was made in 2000. "The Egg and I" was released in 1947, which proves once and for all that the egg came before the chicken. "The Egg and I" featured Claudet Colbert and was famous for introducing the characters Ma and Pa Kettle.
5. Heloise writes a column in which she offers what?

Answer: Hints

According to her website, Heloise's homestate is Texas, but the column was started by her mother in 1959, in a Honolulu newspaper
6. What was the 'dingus' in the classic 1941 movie "The Maltese Falcon"?

Answer: The Maltese Falcon

In "The Maltese Falcon" Humphrey Bogart referred to the falcon as the 'dingus', a term that is synonymous with a 'whatchamacallit'.
7. Which of the following actors was the "Odd Man Out", the main character from the film of the same name?

Answer: James Mason

James Mason played the title role in the 1947 British film "Odd Man Out," directed by Sir Carol Reed. The film was set in Belfast. Mason played an Irish rebel named Johnny who was shot during a robbery. Wounded and alone, he sought shelter from the police and from an odd assortment of people.
8. Which actor or actress did not appear in the film "The Twentieth Century"?

Answer: Rudolph Valentino

Ok, the twentieth century is the 1900's (I have trouble with that). The 1934 comedy "The Twentieth Century" was directed by Howard Hawks and starred John Barrymore as a Broadway director, Carole Lombard as an actress and Roscoe Karns (Best known for his role as Shapely in "It Happened One Night") as his press representative. Carole Lombard portrayed an actress trying to escape the overbearing Barrymore, so she boarded 'the twentieth century'. Barrymore went after her and while aboard the train, he tried to get her to come back to the stage.
9. Who had the only line in Mel Brooks's 1976 film "Silent Movie"?

Answer: A mime

Legendary French mime Marcel Marceau had the only line of dialogue in the movie. His one line was the word "No."
10. In the 1934 film "The Thin Man" starring William Powell and Myrna Loy, who was the thin man?

Answer: The victim

William Powell played Nick Charles, a retired detective, who had married the wealthy Nora Charles (Myrna Loy), and intended to spend his time getting down to some serious drinking. Realizing that he was bored and eager for some excitement, Nora urged him to take a case about a missing inventor, the thin man.
