Poker Legends: Doyle Brunson Trivia Quiz

Answer: The best mile runner and one of the top five basketball players in the state of Texas.

When he was sixteen he was already considered one of the top five basketball players in Texas. His senior year Doyle entered the Texas Interschoolastic Track Meet, and won the mile. He received around 100 scholarship offers.

Doyle actually was named one of the top ten college basketball players in the nation by "Dell Basketball Magazine", and would most likely have played professional basketball for the Lakers had he not broken his leg in two places in a non-sports related accident.

In college Doyle ran a mile in 4:18.6.

In his books he says:
"[I was] in contention for a spot on the national team. I often wonder what would have happened if I had trained as hard for track as I did for basketball. Thinking about it now, I'm sorry I didn't. I think I missed my true calling in sports. There's no doubt in my mind that a four-minute mile was possible."

Keep in mind that Doyle is speaking of a time when no one had ever accomplished this feat. He is actually insinuating that he thinks he could have possibly been the first.

In 2005, both Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson won bracelet number 10. Chan, however, did it first. Phil Hellmuth followed suit in 2006.

The Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship was named in his honor.

Doyle was inducted into the WSOP Poker Hall Of Fame at Binion's Horseshoe Casino in 1988. He was inducted into the Poker915 Hall Of Fame at www.poker915.com in 2007.

Doyle told Barry either to edit it down to 20 or write his own book. All told, Barry ended up with over 300 pages that were published as "Ace On The River". Doyle did write the Foreword to this book.
