Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Right before you enter the ride building, there is a plaque that says what year the Hollywood Tower Hotel (which is the name of the hotel that the ride takes place in) was established. What year was the hotel established?

Answer: 1917

The plaque can be seen just before you make a left hand turn to enter the ride building.
2. Right before you enter the library for the preshow, there is a directory of the hotel rooms that have a few letters missing. If you look at the bottom of the directory, the fallen letters spell an anagram. Which anagram is the correct one?

Answer: Evil tower u r doomed.

Some of the rooms listed on the directory are Tip Top Club, Penthouse, Billards, and Sunset Room.
3. According to the preshow video, how many people boarded the doomed elevator that got zapped to the Twilight Zone?

Answer: Five

The five people on the doomed elevator were a child actress, her nanny, a young couple, and a bellhop.
4. What year was the accident in which those guests boarded the elevator and were zapped into the Twilight Zone?

Answer: 1939

Rod Serling, host of the TV series "The Twilight Zone" and narrator of the ride, says in the preshow video that this was when Hollywood was at the height of its golden age and that the Hollywood Tower Hotel was a star in its own right.
5. When you enter the boiler room to board your ride elevator, how many elevators total are there in which you can choose to board?

Answer: Four

You have a choice to take either the left or right hand path when you enter the boiler room, and there are two separate elevators on each side. Keep in mind that the bellhop at the elevators will determine which of the two on either side you will board. Not only that the four total separate elevators merge into two bigger shafts by the time you arrive in the drop shaft.
6. When you arrive at the scene in the hotel hallway (when you see the ghosts of the vanished guests), what floor of the hotel are you supposedly on?

Answer: Fourth

It's hard to see because of the dim lighting, but there is a sign on the wall that says the room numbers of the hallway are 414-426, indicating you are on the fourth floor of the hotel.
7. Which of these items is not shown in the fifth dimension scene?

Answer: A slot machine

A slot machine is shown in the basement area just before you exit the ride.
8. Originally the ride had only one drop. Now the newer version has more than one drop. What is the maximum number of drops you will get once you are in the drop shaft?

Answer: Four

Not all drops go all the way to the top of the drop shaft, so the number of drops seen from outside the ride may not be the total number of drops in the sequence. Also, there are four different drop sequences and the ride randomly decides each time an elevator goes into the drop shaft which sequence it will get so you will have no idea how and when you will drop.
9. How tall is the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror?

Answer: 199 feet

If the ride was 200 feet or taller, a flashing red light would need to be placed on top of the building for airplane safety reasons, and Imagineers felt this would distract from the ride's theme. Also, you do not actually fall from the full 199 feet. 157 feet is the height you fall from, this allows the elevator to fall 13 stories (the 13th floor of the 12 floor hotel is the floor the guests of the elevator traveled to before the elevator got zapped) and brake for a couple of stories at the end of the drops.
10. According to the Fastpasses for this ride, what is the motto for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror?

Answer: Fear Every Drop

The "fear every drop" motto was added when the four new sequences received updating in about 2002. However, TV commercials for the ride use the motto "Never The Same Fear Twice", which also fits in with the random drop sequences quite nicely.
