Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Played the 1928 inspiration for the Joker, the Man Who Laughs

Answer: Conrad Veidt

Conrad Veidt was a German actor who fled Germany in 1933 to protect his Jewish wife. He moved to Britain, became fluent in English, and continued his career in the UK and the US. Veidt did not have to speak English to star in the 1928 silent film, "The Man Who Laughs". Veidt's character was surgically altered to always be smiling, and provided the visual inspiration for the Joker.

His character was more more sympathetic (and less psychotic), though.
2. Played the Joker in the 1960's, Adam West "Batman" TV series
