Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is not a name of one of Sophie's brothers or sisters?

Answer: Mark

We first see all of the names of her siblings on the second page, right after Sophie and her family had come back from vacation. Sophie lost Felix that day, but can't we see him somewhere out of the corner of our eye?
2. What food does both Sophie and Felix love more than anything?

Answer: spaghetti

Sophie mentions this when she is thinking about how she had known Felix forever, and how they slept together every night, even when Sophie got big! She also thought about how, when she went to school, Felix waited for her, and she told him everything that had happened that day. They understood each other, and that is why it was such a bad thing that Felix got lost!
3. What country does Felix visit first?

Answer: Great Britain

After Sophie gets home from her first day of school, there is a letter waiting for her from Felix telling her all about London. Felix tells her about the filthy river, the big palace, and the men in funny looking hats. He adds cute drawings to his letter, and this letter makes Sophie feel much better.

When Dad gets home, they look up London in the encyclopedia, and learn even more about it!
4. When Felix visits France, he sends her a letter with a picture of him. What is he standing in front of?

Answer: The Eiffel Tower

Felix looks very cute in this picture, and with his beret, baguette and bell, how could he not? Felix sounds like he's having a great time visiting the Eiffel tower, eating French cuisine and watching men play boule! This time Sophie enlists the help of her Grandma, who had been to France many times. She makes the baguette Felix had, as well as a few other French dishes.
5. According to Felix, in Rome, there are people selling what on every corner?

Answer: Ice Cream

Yes, for Felix's third stop, he does go to Italy, to the beautiful city of Rome. Felix tells Sophie how the stores close in the afternoons, there are lots of cats, and that the city used to be inhabited by the ancient Romans. Felix sees writing on the buildings in some sort of secret code, and he suggests to Sophie that they make one up when he gets back. Sophie seems to have alot of experts in her family, because, this time, her brother Julius lends her his Latin book so that she can see the pictures of temples and great works of architecture. Sophie looks at pictures of the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon.
6. When does Felix reach Egypt?

Answer: October

This time, Felix tells Sophie that Egypt is even hotter than Rome, can you imagine? Felix gets to ride on a camel, see the pyramids and the Sphinx - a giant statue with the body of a lion and the face of a woman. Felix is very kind, sending Sophie a Secret Pyramid map, so that the next time Sophie heads over to Egypt, she will be one step ahead of all the other adventurers. Sophie gets a treat this time when she learns about Egypt; her mother takes her to the museum, where she learns about Mummies.

She even gets to show off what she'd learned that day when her brother tris to scare Lena pretending to be a Mummy, by pointing out that Mummies were actually kings of ancient Egypt.
7. What animal is on the back of the envelope Felix sends to Sophie from Kenya?

Answer: an elephant

Felix spends November in Kenya, where he see lots of sunny beaches with gorgeous blue water. He even gets to go on a safari where he sees all kinds of animals: elephants, zebras, lions, and monkeys that made him dizzy by swinging from tree to tree. This time, Sophie gets lucky, because her class was in fact taking a field trip to the zoo the next day where she gets to see the elephants and talk to the zookeeper.

He tells her how elephants are hunted for their tusks, and Sophie is so angry she decides to protects the elephants when she grows up.
8. What snack do Sophie and her family decide to make that doesn't go very well?

Answer: baked apples

Once they had put the apples in the oven, they were soon forgotten about, because Mom chose then to tell them about their Aunt Edda, who would be coming for Christmas. The children are all very excited; their Aunt Edda had been travelling all around the world, and she always had neat stories to tell. They only remember the baked apples when they smell something burning.
9. To what city does Felix make his last visit before coming home?

Answer: New York

Felix spends his last few days of vacation in this big, noisy city, visiting the huge park, the Statue of Liberty, and seeing how people are getting into the Christmas mood by putting up Christmas decorations all over the place. In this letter, he gives Sophie the best information she had got from any of his letters: he was coming home!
10. On what night does Felix find his way back to Sophie?

Answer: Christmas Eve

The same night that Sophie got her last letter from Felix, her Aunt Edda arrives with pictures and souvenirs. She gives a little statue of Liberty to Sophie, so small she can hide it in her fist. Later, she spends time baking Christmas cookies, waiting for Felix to arrive. Where could he be? Finally, on Christmas Eve, he arrives on her doorstep, with a suitcase in his hand, and stories to tell Sophie about how he travelled the world.

However, how he managed it, we'll never know, because it is a closely kept secret between the two friends. I hope you enjoyed this quiz!
