Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling, which of these teachers served for all of Harry's six years in Hogwarts, never missing a day?

Answer: Filius Flitwick

Filius Flitwick, teacher of Charms, never missed a day of teaching. Rubeus Hagrid missed time in Harry's fifth year because he was trying to help recruit the giants for the light. Gilderoy Lockhart and Quirinus Quirrell were holders of the cursed Defense against the Dark Arts position. Lockhart lost his memory, and Quirinus Quirrell died.
2. Which teacher uttered this propecy? "He with the power to vanquish the dark lord approaches...born to those who have thrice defied him."

Answer: Sybill Trelawny

This is the start of Sybill Trelawny's first accurate prophecy. This could have referred to either Harry or Neville. Lord Voldemort chose Harry as his rival when he attacked Harry's family. Had Neville's family been attacked and Neville been chosen, Neville would have been the chosen one. Severus Snape overheard the start of this prophecy.

This is revealed in ""Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".
3. In "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by J.K. Rowling, which teacher was hospitalized because he/she was hit by four stunners?

Answer: Minerva McGonagall

While both Minerva McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid were hit by stunners ordered by Dolores Umbridge, Rubeus Hagrid's half-giant heritage protected him. Minerva McGonagall had no such protection and so needed to go to Saint Mungo's.
4. In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" by J.K. Rowling, which of these teachers taught Defense against the Dark Arts?

Answer: Severus Snape

Severus Snape achieved his life's ambition when he was given the job of Defense against the Dark Arts. Remus Lupin was the teacher in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", Dolores Umbridge in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", and Gilderoy Lockhart in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
5. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling, who taught Care of Magical Creatures?

Answer: Silvanus Kettleburn

Silvanus Kettleburn taught Care of Magical Creatures until Harry's second year, retiring to "enjoy more time with his remaining limbs". Rubeus Hagrid took over the job.
6. In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J.K. Rowling, who was the headmaster of the school?

Answer: Severus Snape

After Albus Dumbledore caught a slowly lethal curse, he instructed Severus Snape to kill him to keep Lord Voldemort's loyalty. As a reward, Lord Voldemort made Snape the headmaster.
7. In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" by J.K. Rowling, which person taught Defense against the Dark Arts?

Answer: Bartemius Crouch, Jr.

Bartemius Crouch, Jr., a death eater, served at Hogwarts to put Harry's name into the Goblet and ensure that Voldemort regained his body. He used Polyjuice Potion to impersonate Alastor Moody.
8. In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J.K. Rowling, who taught Defense against the Dark Arts?

Answer: Amycus Carrow

Amycus Carrow, a death eater, was placed in the Defense against the Dark Arts job by Lord Voldemort. He turned it into Dark Arts. He fought in the final battle and was captured and sent to Azkaban.
9. In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J.K. Rowling, which teacher was stunned by Luna Lovegood?

Answer: Alecto Carrow

Alecto Carrow was keeping watch over Ravenclaw Tower at the time when Luna Lovegood and Harry Potter arrived. Seeing Harry Potter, she tried to contact Lord Voldemort to let him know that Harry was there, and was stunned by Luna Lovegood in order to prevent this.
10. In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" by J.K. Rowling, who taught Apparition?

Answer: Wilkie Twycross

Wilkie Twycross, a Ministry official, came to Hogwarts to help in Apparition. Since he gave preferential treatment to his capable students but not so good treatment to weak students, people gave him nicknames such as "Dogbreath" and "Dungbomb".
