2. Who spied on the girls when they went out on a picnic to hide the newly-written 'Chalet School League of Peace'?

Answer: Frau Eisen and her son Hermann

The Chalet Girls wanted to promote peace between their countries, as Europe stood on the brink of World War 2. They decided to hide the document in a cave on the Sonnalpe, so planned a picnic to conceal their efforts to put the document in a safe place. The girls were shocked when Hermann Eisen gave them the Nazi greeting when he met them on the mountain.

Answer: Robin and Jo stopping a group of youths attacking Herr Goldmann

When a group of girls went shopping in Spartz, they saw old Herr Goldmann, the jeweller, being chased by youths. Anti-Jewish feeling was already beginning to show in Austria. Robin and Jo went out to try to help Herr Goldmann, but the crowd went to his house later and shot him.
4. Which of these girls was not among the group forced to flee Austria?

5. On which island did the school re-open after the flight from Austria?

The Channel Islands were deemed a good place to re-start the school, as the air was good. This was always an important factor, as the health of the girls was considered paramount. Madge and Jo took houses on Guernsey, and prepared to open the school again.
6. When the school opened in Sarres in the big, old house that was to be its new home, who was chosen as Head Girl?

Beth and Julie were cousins, both daughters of characters from Elinor Brent-Dyer's 'La Rochelle' books. Lorenz was not a new girl; she had been Robin's friend when the school was in Austria. Gertrude had been sent to the Chalet School to find out more about the German and Austrian girls that had attended the school.
8. Which of the following happened when a group of girls went for a picnic at Pleinmont?

Answer: Bruno von Ahlen

Frieda was one of Joey's closest friends. She and Bruno married as they travelled away from Germany, following Bruno's escape from a concentration camp.
