Answer: Flavia, Jonathan, Lupus and Nubia

All are children in the Ancient Roman era.
2. Which of the four children, who all believe their mothers to be dead, have mothers who then prove to be alive.

Answer: Jonathan and Lupus

Jonathan's mother, Susannah, was captured at Jerusalem and Jonathan and his family who went to Ostia thought she died, but she was enslaved and given to Queen Berenice as a gift from Titus.
Lupus's mother was left behind when Venalicius took Lupus away from Symi, but she became a priestess of Apollo.
3. Which two children become related by marriage during the series?

Answer: Flavia and Jonathan

Jonathan's sister marries Flavia's uncle.

Twice, in two different books.

In "The Dolphins of Laurentum" Flavia's father encounters a shipwreck and barely survives but Lupus to the rescue!

Answer: Publius Pollius Felix

The Patron as he is better well-known, enchants Flavia. She then establishes herself in love until a friend of her father's enlightens her as to the countless other women who love him. Flavia doesn't fall in love with Pliny the Younger - he falls in love with Miriam. Flaccus does appear to be in love with Flavia and later kisses her and asks her to marry him - she refuses but she may change her mind...

Berenice was the Jewish Queen who was the lover of Titus but he broke his promise to her and fell in love with Jonathan's mother, Susannah. He never had a romantic relationship with Flavia or her nurse, Alma.

Answer: Ostia

Ostia is the port of Rome and is Flavia's home town.
9. In "The Slave Girl from Jerusalem" we learn that Hephzibah went to a Jewish fortress after running from Jerusalem; what is the name of the fortress?

Answer: Masada

At Masada, basically all the Jews were massacred except Hephzibah and six other children.

Answer: Scuto-Flavia, Nipur-Nubia, Tigris-Jonathan, Ferox-Gaius

Flavia's dog is Scuto, whom she adores. When Scuto had puppies Nubia named hers Nipur and Jonathan's became Tigris. Gaius's dog, Ferox, who was once the terror of Stabia, after the eruption of Vesuvius became as soft as a little puppy, but they didn't change his name.
11. On whose birthday in "The Enemies of Jupiter" did Jonathan burn the venison birthday dinner; Tigris took it away?

Answer: his father's

On Mordecai's birthday after Miriam married Gaius, Jonathan is struggling with the household duties he's had to cope with, including cleaning and cooking. He definitely blames Miriam as she was the great cook. Lupus's birthday was the week before, when there was food although it was burnt. And, why would Jonathan be cooking on his own birthday?
12. What are The Patron's maids named after?

Answer: The Sirens

Leucosia, Parthenope and Ligea, the three Sirens who were horrible creatures. Although most of these maids are reasonably nice.
13. What Greek city is the children's tutor, Aristo, from?

Answer: Corinth

As in the title of one of the series: "The Fugitive of Corinth", referring to Aristo.
14. In "The Colossus of Rhodes", what are the children searching for?

Answer: The slave children and the slave dealer

This is when Flavia's father takes the children on his ship and they sail to Rhodes, which is where the slave dealer is rumoured to be.
15. What is the name of Venalicius's slave ship?

Answer: Vespa

The Vespa, meaning wasp, is Venalicius's ship and then when he dies in "The Dolphins of Laurentum", Lupus inherits the ship and calls it the Delphina.
