Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rikki tries to get Lewis angry by dropping an ice cube down the back of his neck, giving him dog hair to analyze, complaining about her drink, erasing his hard drive, and stirring her juice with his backup flash drive.

Answer: Sink or Swim

Rikki was irate that Lewis kept asking for samples, and she believed he would get angry too if sufficiently provoked. Cleo stated that she had known Lewis since she was five, and had never seen him get angry.

"There has got to be a way to make him crack."

The joke was on Rikki, for Lewis quickly figured out what she was up to, and forcefully kept his cool to try to freak Rikki out. Cleo finally talked Lewis into staging an angry outburst to let Rikki think she had won.
2. Cleo has a ridiculously juvenile sixteenth birthday party, again.

Answer: Surprise!

Cleo dreaded the 19th of April every year because her dad would always throw a very juvenile surprise party, complete with animal-costumed entertainers, a ball pit, and pony rides.

Rikki, not knowing this, didn't know why Cleo so dreaded her upcoming birthday party. Lewis pointed out that he had been to them all.

Emma: I had my first pony ride at Cleo's sixth birthday party.
Rikki: Are you sure this *isn't* Cleo's sixth birthday party?
3. Rikki rescues Elliot in the heavy surf.

Answer: Young Love

The rescues have an interesting connection. Back in the 70's, Lisa Gilbert rescued Harrison Bennett in heavy surf. Later, Lisa's daughter Emma rescued Harrison's son Zane from a sunken houseboat.

Harrison was a surfer, and held the windsurfing record around Mako Island. It stands to reason that he had a "wipeout" when Lisa rescued him at age 12. Lisa's son Elliot had a little surfing accident at age 11 when Rikki rescued him.

Elliot admired Rikki so much, and he tried everything he could think of to win Rikki's affections.
4. Emma finds Gracie's locket at the bottom of the moon pool.

Answer: Party Girls

We learn in Series 2 that Max Hamilton had created the original lockets for Louise, Julia, and Gracie, hoping that his beloved Gracie could learn to accept and embrace what she had become. Gracie wore hers for a time, even for some modelling shoots, but just couldn't keep it or Max. She threw her locket into the moon pool, and there it sat undisturbed for fifty years.

I bought my daughter an exact replica of the "H2O" locket in sterling silver, if you want one. It's quite nice, and costs less than half of what Rikki would have had to pay for Julia's locket. They've made some related accessories; even, as Rikki proposed, "some earrings that are supposed to match with it."
5. Rikki's famous "best worst" karaoke ever.

Answer: The Siren Effect

Cleo had quite an adventure as a Siren, including her first ever kiss with Lewis, but the show stealer, and one of the great "funny" scenes in "H2O", was Rikki's best worst karaoke ever.

The great "missing line" in the Series 2 episode "Moonstruck", would be Emma warning Rikki to not let Cleo touch any water or she'll start singing. For some strange, unknown reason, Cleo's great "Siren Effect" was flat out forgotten in that episode.
6. Rikki dons a formal red dress to attend a business meeting with Zane.

Answer: Fish Out of Water

Zane and Rikki were downtown, enjoying each other's company. But when Zane raised the subject of mermaids, Rikki quickly changed the subject by admiring a formal dress in a boutique window.

Meanwhile, Zane's dad was planning a formal business luncheon and asked Zane to be there with a date - preferably Miriam. He chose to bring Rikki instead, buying her the dress for the occasion.

Emma was there with her parents too, but it turned out to be a plan to develop Mako Island into a beach front tourist resort, and Rikki took a stand to oppose it.

At the end, Cleo asked Rikki, "What do you see in Zane?" To which Rikki replied, "He gets me." Interestingly, that is the same thing Will would later say about Bella. When Sophie asked him, "What do you see in her?" Will replied, "She gets me, Soph."
7. Lewis proposes window cleaning and bikini car washing as ways to raise $200.

Answer: In Too Deep

This cute little scene from "In Too Deep" had Rikki appealing to Lewis to help pay for the locket. When he opened his wallet to give her something, she did as a "girlfriend" would do: she quickly reached over and grabbed all the money in his wallet, which is implied to be $50.

Rikki: Thank you. This nearly gets us a deposit. Then all we need is $200 after that. Any ideas?
Lewis: Yes... window cleaning... bikini car washing...
Rikki: Oh, you are funny; you are hysterical.

It's a moment of sweet revenge. But Rikki knew exactly how to motivate Lewis: she told him that the locket would mean a lot to Cleo, and sure enough, Lewis couldn't resist doing something for Cleo. He loved Cleo, and Rikki knew it, even if Lewis didn't.
8. Emma rescues Zane.

Answer: Shipwrecked

The rescues are almost as well connected as the lockets. Remember question 3? The three present-day mermaids perfectly match the three previous ones, and they even wear the right lockets.

Louise is the only one of the previous mermaids known to have performed a rescue, and it was a deep-water, off-shore rescue. Her counterpart is clearly Emma, who performs the first deep-water, off-shore rescue: The son of the boy her own mother rescued some 22 years earlier.

It's a pity the scene only showed Emma breaking the door with her tail, for the full rescue would have been something to see.

Still, the point of the scene was Zane catching a glimpse of Emma's tail, exactly as the man Louise rescued in 1955 saw her. By a startling coincidence, both he and Zane drew almost identical depictions of the tail they saw!
9. Rikki quits her weekend job at the JuiceNet Cafe. "Watch and learn: This is me, quitting."

Answer: The Big Chill

So Rikki needed a temporary part-time job to buy some concert tickets, and Emma had charge of the JuiceNet Cafe for the weekend, with consent to hire a friend to help. Cleo talked her into hiring Rikki. But, as Emma anticipated, Rikki lacked the responsibility. As Emma tried to coach her, Rikki took her as being a control freak and quit.

Later, after the Miriam ordeal, Rikki got her act together, but had to quit to preserve Emma's job. What goes around comes around, and Rikki would later be the "Manageress" of this very establishment bearing her name!

This is where we learn that Miriam is allergic to strawberries.

Miriam had been frozen there for over twelve hours, and was revived with no apparent after-effects.
10. First "official" kiss between Zane and Rikki.

Answer: Hook, Line, and Sinker

With all three couples, there was first a "moonstruck" kiss in one episode, and then an "official" kiss in a later episode.

The "Zikki" kiss in the elevator doorway at the end of "Hook, Line, and Sinker" was once ranked the most romantic scene in the series.

Emma has the first moonstruck kiss as a mermaid. Rikki has the first official kiss as a mermaid.
