Tests Are the Worst Trivia Quiz

We all know tests and exams are the worst things ever. My ideal test would look something like this quiz: random, weird, and funny questions with equally random, weird, and funny answers! Some Q&A's are based on real tests.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Test I: You start the day off miserably with a fever, and you are 15 minutes late for your test that began at 9 a.m. You enter the hall and the invigilator does not allow you inside. You apologize and ask her to let you in after explaining what happened. You hope the heart of this lady has a trait that Portia begged from Shylock. What trait is that?

Answer: Mercy

In William Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice', Antonio was not able to pay on time, so according to Shylock's bond with him, Shylock was allowed to take a pound of flesh from Antonio. When this bond came into effect and they were in court, Portia disguised herself as a lawyer and begged for mercy from Shylock (in a very well-known monologue).

In my opinion, the best thing to do is be honest. If you are late and have an excuse, make sure you explain it to the concerned. Own up to your mistake, apologize and try not to repeat it again.

Mercy is a human trait that is synonymous with compassion.

If you are always late and find it hard to be punctual, then try to organize yourself so you can be prepared for things that you are going to do.

William Shakespeare said on punctuality, "Better three hours too soon than a minute too late".
2. Test II: Henry A. Fischel is sometimes credited with the invention of academic exams. You have a conversation with him, which keeps you uncomfortably on edge. How would you properly describe the conversation?

Answer: a test to my patience

Henry A. Fischel was a professor at Indiana University. He mostly lectured in the subjects of languages and cultures. He started an academic program that introduced exams to his university.

It would probably test your patience to hear him describe how he started exams. If something tests your patience, it means it makes it hard for you to control an impulse to do something.
3. Test III: You tear a piece of your question paper and write a note to your neighboring classmate, asking for the answer to question 11. Most colleges and schools do not allow this. If you are caught, what word appropriately describes what you are guilty of?

Answer: Malpractice

It is also called cheating. It is a prohibited practice during most exams. Students are not allowed to exchange answers. There are usually punishments if caught doing so.

Based on studies conducted by "The Independent" in Britain, more than 45,000 students were caught for malpractice in British institutions in a three year period. This was reported in 2012.

Some institutions in India employ metal detectors and cell phone jammers to prevent using electronics for malpractice.

It is a bad practice and it is important to lean on one's own knowledge for exams and tests!
4. Test 4: Next question - "What is love?" How would Haddaway answer this?

Answer: Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more

'What Is Love' was a song by Haddaway from an eponymous album. It was released in 1993. Other singles from this album were 'Life', 'I Miss You' and 'Rock My Heart'. Haddaway's other albums include 'My Face' and 'Let's Do It Now'.

The lyrics of 'What Is Love' go:

'What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.'
5. Test V: You are writing a test and you think of Beyonce Knowles. Then the next question is, "Why does Saturn have rings?" Your best answer would be what?

Answer: Because God knew if he liked it then he should've put a ring on it

Beyonce, an American pop singer, was originally part of the group called Destiny's Child. She has released a number of chart-topping and well-known singles like 'Baby Boy', 'Halo', 'Crazy in Love' and 'Listen'. She has won several Grammy awards for her music.

In 2008, she released a song called 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)' from her album 'I Am... Sasha Fierce', which has the lyrics, 'If you like it then you should have put a ring on it.'
6. Test VI: Your exam has maximum marks of 50. You have surprisingly done the exam well and are hoping for what some call a 'centum'. How much have you got out of 50 if you receive a centum?

Answer: 50, I got full marks

The word 'centum' is used to denote that you got all the marks possible. This usually indicates that you have prepared really well...or that you are really lucky to have guessed all the answers correctly.

To get good marks in an exam, you have to prepare well and keep yourself organised. Don't forget to review what you have studied!
7. Test VII: Where was the Declaration of Independence signed? Which idiom would most likely answer this question?

Answer: On the dotted line

Of course, how many times have you heard, "Please, sign on the dotted line"? This idiom refers to an agreement.

Usually signatures are signed as a confirmation of authenticity of an important document. It is a part of a person's identity. People who are illiterate are urged to use their thumbprints as their signatures. Signatures are used as important identifying entries in applications, passports, licenses, etc.

The US's Declaration of Independence was signed on August 2, 1776.
8. Test VIII: Name six animals that live in the Arctic. What is the technically correct answer?

Answer: Two polar bears, four seals

Six animals of the Arctic include lynxes, Arctic hares, Beluga whales, polar bears, narwhals and seals. It gets very cold in these regions, so the animals have adapted certain features to live there, like thick skin, fur coats, etc.
9. Test IX: What is your favorite 'hue'? The closest possible answer would be what?

Answer: Jackman

The name 'Hugh' sounds like the word 'hue'. Hue means a color or shade, like red, blue or yellow. Hugh Jackman is an actor who is known for acting as Wolverine in the 'X-men' movies. He has also appeared in movies like 'Kate and Leopold', 'Real Steel' and 'Australia'. He himself is Australian and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in 'Les Miserables' (2012).
10. Test X: The bell rings for the end of the test. You realize you've forgotten to write the date, and you don't even remember it. Then you recall your friend saying that it was a beautiful November day, but a very unlucky one according to many. What's the date?

Answer: 13th Friday

Friday the 13th has been labelled as unlucky for a very long time. It has been represented in pop culture and has inspired movies such as the 'Friday the 13th' franchise, which is comprised of slasher films featuring the well-known villain Jason. The superstition is said to have roots around the time of Jesus's crucifixion.

After an exam is done, you have to stop writing and submit the papers to the invigilators. They will then give it to the professors who have to grade them, and they will either pass or fail you.

Study, aim high and work hard. It can be important to shine in examinations and tests. Don't be nervous; be confident that you can pass this exam!
