Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I say that - "Movie producer Samuel Goldwyn changed his surname from Goldfish to Goldwyn." Do you believe me?

Answer: Yes, I think his name was Goldfish

Samuel Goldfish, later to become Goldwyn, was born in Warsaw in 1882 with the name Gelbfisz. At the age of nine he ran away from home and arrived in the US when he was thirteen, where he chaned his name to Goldfish. He studied English at night school while selling gloves by day.
Goldwyn claimed that so many people turned up for Louie B Mayer's funeral because they wanted to make sure he was dead.
2. This one should be straightforward enough. I say - "Bananas grow on trees." Is that statement true or false?

Answer: False

The banana plant is classed as a herb because it does not have a woody stem, and the plant dies back once it has seeded. The fruit of the banana plant is technically a berry.
3. H J Heinz made their first processed food product in 1869. You probably think it must have been baked beans - but is that too obvious? I say it was horseradish sauce. Come on, trust me on this one.

Answer: Horseradish sauce

Although Heinz boast 57 varieties, the company actually market around 6,000 different products.
While Heinz horseradish sauce dates back to 1869, ketchup was introduced in 1875 and the famous baked beans twenty years later in 1895.
4. I am telling you that - "Al Capone's business card described him as an "insurance agent". Do you believe I am telling you the truth?

Answer: no

Al Capone's business card read "used furniture dealer".
Born Alphonse Gabriel Capone in 1899, he had the nickname "Scarface ". For all his many crimes Capone was found guilty of, and imprisoned for, tax evasion in 1931.
Capone is thought to have died from complications following untreated syphilis in 1947.
5. What does a rainbow look like on the other side from which you are viewing it? I've made-up three of the answers below - but which one is NOT a work of fiction?

Answer: You cannot see it

The light source (the Sun) must be behind you to enable you to see a rainbow.
The light is reflected from the back of the raindrops, splitting the light into its component colours. This only occurs an angle of 42 degrees.
6. What was astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin's mother's maiden name? One of these improbable answers is the truth - But, which one?

Answer: Moon

Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin was a member of the Apollo 11 space mission. He was the second man to walk on the moon after Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969.
7. I say that - "Charles Darwin did NOT coin the phrase "survival of the fittest". Am I telling the truth?

Answer: Yes

I was telling the truth. The phrase "survival of the fittest" is credited to Herbert Spencer.
The phrase did not appear in early editions of "The Origin of Species", but was adopted and used by Darwin in later editions.
Herbert Spencer is also credited with the invention of the paperclip.
8. Let's see how well you know your body parts. Which of these statements is a LIE?

Answer: The tissue dividing the nostrils of your nose is called the nasal separatum

The tissue that separates your nostrils is called the nasal SEPTUM.
9. I say that - "Contrary to common belief, human hair and nails do NOT continue to grow after death." Am I telling the truth?

Answer: yes

Hair and nails do not grow after death. The skin tightens and this gives the illusion of hair and nails growing.
10. Attila the Hun died on his wedding night. One of these minor ailments led to his demise - the other three are fibs.

Answer: Nosebleed

Attila's honeymoon was brought to a sudden and fatal conclusion when he suffered a nosebleed.
He was in an extremely drunken state and could not be roused. Poor Attila drowned in his own blood.
