1. Which Ukrainian city shares its name with a delicious garlic butter chicken dish and is home to Dovzhenko Film Studios, one of the major movie studios of the former Soviet Union?

Answer: Kiev

Kiev has a long history since its founding in 482 AD. Although the name of the dish would suggest that chicken Kiev was invented in Kiev, it is not clear and Russians claim the it was introduced first in Moscow. Dovzhenko Film Studios is named after the Ukrainian producer Alexander Dovzhenko. Once the Soviet Union fell, the studio slowed production down significantly until the late 2000s when it rebooted with digital films.
2. Which Taiwanese city is home to the largest Buddhist temple on the island and hosted the 2009 World Games?

Answer: Kaohsiung

The Fo Guang Shan Temple was founded in 1967 and the 36-meter Buddha was consecrated eight years later. Kaosiung, despite being the home to many temples, is a bustling and often crowded city full of skyscrapers and and other sites.

Answer: Kolkata

Kolkata, former known as Calcutta, was a vibrant and economically prosperous city when India was under British control. However, the decades after independence saw the city crumble economically and it became one of the poorest major cities in the world. Its economy began to pick up again in the early 2000s when manufacturing and other businesses began to pop up in the city.
4. Which hilly central African city is home to a hotel called Mille Collines which played a prominent role in the 2004 film "The Hotel Rwanda" starring Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo?

Answer: Kigali

Although the Mille Collines hotel is real, the one used in the film "The Hotel Rwanda" (2004) is actually a hotel in South Africa. The Mille Collines was used as a refugee center during the Rwandan Genocide in the 1990s. "Mille Collines" means many (or a thousand) hills, a reference to the hills that surround Kigali, with the tallest being named Mount Kigali.
5. Which Kansas City is home to a replica of the Arc de Triomphe and has a neighborhood called Strawberry Hill? Is it the one in Kansas or the one in Missouri?

Answer: Kansas

Kansas City, Kansas, is smaller and less populated than its Missouri counterpart. The replica of the Arc de Triomphe is called the Rosedale Arch and it commemorates those who served in World War I.

Answer: Kalamazoo, Michigan

Kalamazoo hosts an annual Beer Week and Bell's Brewery, the largest in the state, can produce over a half million barrels of beer each year. Kingston, and Jamaica's, most famous beer is Red Stripe, which is also now brewed in the U.S. and U.K.

Answer: Kunming

Kunming also played an important role in World War II when the U.S. used it as an air base. It was also a terminus on the Burma Road, a path used to transport good and supplies easily around Asia.

"The Kite Runner" is about life in Kabul and Afghanistan under the Taliban rule. The Darul Aman Palace was supposed to the be centerpiece of King Amanullah Khan's modernized Kabul in the 1920s. However, the king was removed from power before its completion and it has been in ruins ever since.

Answer: Kiel

Kiel is also known for its wonderful handball team, THW Kiel, which won every single one of its German League games in 2012, a first in history. As a port city, Kiel is also home to a number of German navy bases and aquatic research teams.

Answer: Kobe

The earliest known reference to Kobe was recorded in 201 AD, and only mentions the building of a shrine in the area. Kobe Beef Marketing, which regulates Kobe beef in Kobe and Japan, notes that some countries do not recognize Kobe's trademark, calling anything Kobe Beef. That has caused controversy within the city itself.
