Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What popular automobile first rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964?

Answer: Ford Mustang

The Mustang was heavily advertised during the latter part of its development. On April 16, 1964, the day before its release, Ford ran simultaneous commercials at 9:30pm on all three major television networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS. The following day April 17, 1964 people 'attacked' the Ford showrooms. Everyone was in a frenzy to be one of the first to own the Mustang. Ford sold over 22,000 Mustangs the first day.

By the end of the year, Ford had sold 263,434. By the end of the Mustang's first anniversary, April 17, 1965, Ford had sold 418,812 Mustangs.

The Mustang had made a name for itself, and it was here to stay.

Released in 1963, this film was screened for President John F. Kennedy during a visit to Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday November 17, 1963. It was the last film he ever saw.
4. What child star was born November 7, 1964?

Answer: Dana Plato

Twice arrested and with a history of drug problems, Dana led a tragic life. On Saturday, May 8, 1999, Dana died of what appeared to be an accidental overdose of a painkiller called Loritab. On May 21, a coroner's inquest ruled her death a suicide due to a large amount of drugs in her body and her history of past suicide attempts. She was 34 years old.
5. Who won the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize?

Answer: Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.
6. Who became the Pope in 1963?

Answer: Paul VI

He will be remembered for his work toward the reunion of all Christians, his reaching out to the immense multitudes who belong to non-Christian religions or to none, his internationalizing the Roman Curia, and his untiring work for peace. He was deeply interested in the emerging nations of the Third World and supported every effort for their social advancement.

He was the first pope to visit every continent, and the first the Holy Land. (This excludes St. Peter, who was born and grew up in the Holy Land and can hardly be described as a visitor).

The first papal visit to the Western Hemisphere was his visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York on October 4, 1965. His attempt to establish better relations with communist governments had few results and aroused mixed feelings in various Catholic circles.

His exceptional capacity for work lasted to the end, which came on August 6, 1978.
7. Who was the US President in 1964?

Answer: Lyndon Johnson

He became president in 1963 after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He was elected in November, 1964, to a term of his own. He chose not to run again (even though he could), and served until 1969.

10. What movie star, born on January 7, 1964, nephew of a famous director, changed his last name so as make his own reputation?

Answer: Nicolas Cage

The son of comparative literature professor August Coppola (a brother of director Francis Ford Coppola) and dancer and choreographer Joy Vogelsang, Cage changed his name early in his career to make his own reputation, succeeding brilliantly with a host of classic, quirky roles by the late 1980s.
