Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Throughout their life, Native Americans change names. What was Sitting Bull's first name?

Answer: Jumping Badger

Sitting Bull's parents did not choose this name for any particular reason as they knew he would get a name that fitted him better.
2. Sitting Bull's second name was Slow. Why?

Answer: Because he studied his food for a long period before eating it

Most children would not waste a second to look at the food; they just eat it. So when Sitting Bull studied the venison, his father and his uncle thought he did not like venison. But when they waited and finally saw him eat it, they thought - like everyone else - that the name Slow suited him.
3. Sitting Bull's father was a chief at the time of his birth.

Answer: Yes, he was chief

His father was had great confidence in his son but never knew he would some day carry his name.
4. What was Sitting Bull's father's name (at the time Sitting Bull was called Jumping Badger/Slow)?

Answer: Sitting Bull

After winning a white feather in a battle (that originally he was not supposed to be), Sitting Bull's (at the time Slow) father passed his name on to Slow, and Sitting Bull became Jumping Bull.
5. Sitting Bull's tribe was a part of the Lakota Sioux. But what tribe was it?

Answer: Hunkpapa

Actually, all of these are Lakota Sioux tribes, and at one point they all banded together to fight the Europeans.

Answer: Crazy Horse

All of these Native Americans were from the same time period, and are also very interesting topics.

Answer: Standing Rock Indian Resevation

None of the three incorrect answers exist.
8. In the later years, when on the reservation, Sitting Bull was called "the figurehead of Indian resistance".

Answer: True, he had this name

He was also one of the last chiefs to surrender to the Europeans but he did not give up his name as chief, even though the agency thought so.
9. What is the famous dance that Sitting Bull took part in and that led to a massacre?

Answer: The Ghost Dance

The ghost dance massacre led to many deaths, including that of Sitting Bull.
10. Where was Sitting Bull's life taken?

Sitting Bull's life was taken by Agency Indians at the Great Sioux Resevation on December 15, 1890.
