Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start with the letter O. Which one of these six letter words was NOT added to the Scrabble Tournament Word List in 2005?

Answer: KOODOO

The Scrabble Tournament Word List got a major revamping in October 2005. Eight words were deleted, but over 3000 were added. Some of the words such as PIZZAZZ (being exciting) are impossible to actually play in Scrabble, even with both blanks!
2. Now on to P. Name the one word following the P(Vowel)PPY pattern that is not acceptable. Y is not a vowel.

Answer: PIPPY

A total of six words contain three Ps. All of them follow the pattern P*PP*.
3. Now on to Q. What is the shortest word to contain two Qs?

Answer: EQUIVOQUE

This word can also be spelled EQUIVOKE. Seven other words contain two Qs, them all being in the EQUIVOQUE or QUINQUENNIA family.
4. Moving onto R. Which one of these words is actually acceptable?

Answer: FORRARDER

Surprisingly, though it ends in an -ER, FORRARDER (forward) is an adverb. FORRARDER is ranked 24441 out of the 29150 nine letter words in probability of drawing and playing it in a Scrabble game.
5. On to S. How do you spell this type of tea?

Answer: SASSAFRAS

SASSAFRAS tea can help thin your blood, however there are many people who are allergic to it.
6. Now on to T. Do any words contain five Ts?

Answer: No

T is a hard letter to make words with lots of it. The shortest word to contain four Ts is TATTIEST (the most ragged).
7. Skipping U, moving on to V. What is the shortest word to contain three Vs?

Answer: OVERVIVID

The two shortest words were just made up. OVOVIVIPAROUS (the state of laying eggs inside of a body, instead of out) is in fact a word, and can take an -LY at the end.
8. Moving on to W. Which one of these W heavy six letter words is UNACCEPTABLE?

Answer: WOWWOW

BOWWOW just means to woof or bark. POWWOW means to have a meeting or conference, but can also mean a get together, like a Native American POWWOW. WOW-WOW (hyphenated, so not accepted as a single word) is a sauce for which the first recipe appeared in print in the early 19th century.
9. Skipping X, moving on to Y. Which one of these words has been added the most recently?

Answer: HYPONYMY

HYPONYMY (being a word that indicates a subcategory) was added to the Scrabble Tournament Word List in 2005. The four answer choices were the only four words to contain three Ys.
10. Alas, the elusive Z! Which one of these Z only words is actually acceptable?

Answer: ZZZ

The only other three letter word to contain two Zs is ZUZ, which is a former Hebrew coin.
