Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the nickname of the DHC?

Answer: Tomakin

In "Brave New World", the DHC's nickname is revealed when he was called by name by Linda, with whom he reproduced viviparously (or by natural means). Because this is considered immoral in "Brave New World" society, Thomas Foster left her behind at the Reservation in New Mexico rather than face the shame that would arise if she returned to civilized society.
2. What is the maximum number of babies that can be produced from one egg using the Bokanovsky Process?

Answer: 96

As the DHC explains to the students when they are given a tour of the Hatchery, 96 is the maximum an egg can be Bokanovskified. The purpose of this process is to create identical twins who will then work identical jobs.
3. What is the name of the version of "soma" taken by the people in the Reservation?

Answer: Mescal

"Mescal", which was created by Pope, is just like "soma" but with some terrible after-effects. This makes it essentially like alcohol; however, the Savages use a different word for it.
4. At the "Feely" that John and Lenina go to see, of what animal is the flawlessly produced rug made?

Answer: Bear

This rug is the topic of interest for many in "Brave New World". The Assistant Predestinator specifically mentions the love scene in the "All-Super-Singing, Synthetic-Talking, Coloured, Stereoscopic Feeely".
5. What is the name of the woman whose unibrow Bernard finds particularly disconcerting?

Answer: Morgana Rothschild

Bernard, after being late for the Solidarity Service, accidentally sits between Morgana and Clara, when in fact, a spot was open between Fifi and Joanna. Bernard makes a point of noting Morgana's disgusting unibrow as he berates himself for choosing this spot in his haste to enter unnoticed.
6. What is the name of the man who trained John the Savage to work in clay?

Answer: Mitsima

When he turned fifteen, John the Savage was taken aside by Mitsima and taught the ways of working clay and later, the ways of the bow.
7. What centre has produced the most adult individuals from a single ovary?

Answer: Mombasa

The Centre in London has a record of 16 012, while Singapore has achieved over 16 500 but Mombasa has breached the 17 000 mark.
8. What "Brave New World" class must suffer the second-worst standard of living?

Answer: Delta

The classes for "Brave New World" are as follows: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon.
9. What Shakespeare play does John the Savage tell Mustapha Mond is "better than those feelies"?

Answer: Othello

William Shakespeare's "Othello" is, John argues, far better than any of the feelies in "Brave New World". While Mustapha Mond agrees, he does point out that high art is a sacrifice being made for the stability of society.
10. Where is the destination that Bernard and Helmholtz are eventually sent away to for life?

Answer: The Falkland Islands

After begging the World Controller not to send him to Iceland, Mustapha and Helmholtz agree that Helmholtz and Bernard should be sent to The Falkland Islands. Because there are other exiles there, they will not be alone.
