Rickard Stark was born after the year 230 after Aegon's Conquest. Although Rickard is thought to be an only child, it is possible that the baby named Brandon Stark for whom Old Nan was hired as a wet nurse be Rickard's brother. Rickard died in King's Landing in the year 283 AC under orders of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen.

Rhaegar's death shattered the Targaryen loyalists, who fled for King's Landing, with Eddard in hot pursuit.

However, before Eddard arrived in King's Landing, the city had been sacked by Tywin Lannister, Warden of the West, who was initially neutral, but decided to join the rebels when it became clear that Robert would be the winner.

Slynt was the son of a butcher in King's Landing. He somehow managed to become commander of the City Watch of King's Landing and was known to be very corrupt. Slynt's assistance was the only way Eddard could depose Cersei and her son, Joffrey, from the Iron Throne after Robert's death.

He trusted Littlefinger to bring them to his fold. However, when Eddard and his men went to the throne room to face Cersei, it was revealed that, due to Littlefinger's treachery, Slynt actually worked for her. Slynt's men slaughtered Eddard's guards and he was taken to the black cells.

The name of Eddard's greatsword was Ice. It was the ancestral weapon of House Stark and made from Valyrian steel. Eddard had used it in order to execute prisoners condemned to death. After his arrest, it was given to Ilyn Payne who used it to behead Eddard. So ended the life of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North.
