The deer was injured in her left foreleg. Eragon was really surprised that the doe had not been picked off by some predator earlier and that she had managed to keep up with the herd.

Sloan decided that since Eragon didn't know how much the egg was worth, he would only give him three crowns worth of meat for the egg. Once he heard it was from the Spine, he refused to trade with Eragon.
