5 Question Literature Quiz: Lord of the Rings | J. R. R. Tolkien

This is my first quiz, so I'll make it a quickie. I try not to make freebie questions. Let's see if I succeed. There are no special characters with an accent marks or the like in the questions or answers. Good Luck! :)

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Frodo's home in Hobbiton?

Answer: Bag-End

In the book Frodo sold his home before leaving--and sold it to the Sackville-Bagginses, relatives of Bilbo's (and Frodo's) who hated the Bagginses because they wanted to live in Bag-End so much, but it had always been in Bilbo's family instead.
2. When the Orcs run away in Moria at the approach of the Balrog, Gandalf hears one of them utter the Orc-word 'Ghash.' What does it mean?

Answer: Fire

Orcs from different regions cannot understand each other's Orc-speech, so when tribes mix the Orcs must speak in the Common tongue to communicate. Without saying too much, it comes in handy from time to time. : )
3. Where does Legolas come from?

Answer: Mirkwood

Mirkwood was once called Greenwood the Great. It was renamed when Sauron left Mordor and gathered his evil into the forest, and resided in a tower to the South of Mirkwood.
4. Gimli is the son of a dwarf with whom Bilbo had his adventure. What is Gimli's father's name?

Answer: Gloin

In the movie an old dwarf accompanies Gimli to the Council of Elrond. Presumably it is Gloin, although in the book Bombur, who also shared Bilbo's adventure, is present.
5. 'Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their Halls of Stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne.' (That's an excerpt from the full Ring-verses, and I didn't check if it was word for word, so don't worry if it has any insignificant differences.) What happened to the Seven Rings given to the Dwarf-lords?

Answer: Some were destroyed by dragons and some were recovered by Sauron

The three Elven rings are explained, if one knows where to look. Their keepers, their names, and their powers are all eventually revealed. The seven Dwarf rings, however, are barely detailed. They have no names and no powers listed anywhere that I have found, and therefore I've always wondered exactly what Sauron got out of those that he recovered. Oh, there's that too: it does not say anywhere how many he recovered and how many were destroyed by dragons. I've always wondered, so if anyone has any information on this, please e-mail me--and if you have a reference, please list it in your e-mail! Thank you!
