Answer: The Isle of Dog

Snitter told Rowf they would be safe if they could swim to the Isle of Dog. This and the fact that the soldiers were gaining ground on them persuaded Rowf to enter the water and swim for his freedom.
10. Did the dogs make it to safety?

Answer: Yes, they are rescued by Peter Scott.

Sadly enough the book leads us in the direction to believe the dogs drowned, but in doing so they truly had gained their freedom from the cruelties that had been heaped on them in the name of science. However, Richard Adams wrote the "Envoy" which is truly the last chapter, so to speak, of the book and turned the ending events in the dogs' favor and gave them a saving grace.

In this section he achieved a happy ending for the dogs as they reunited with Snitter's former master. This is a good reason for us to always read everything in a book such as prologues, afterwords, etc. "Envoy" certainly made the difference in this story.

Note: If you have ever seen the animated movie of "The Plague Dogs", the "Envoy" is not in it and the gloomy ending sticks in your throat, along with tears in your eyes, for far too long.
