Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why was Jordie kidnapped?

Answer: Her kidnapping was really an attempted murder gone awry.

Billy Panella, a notorious criminal, had contracted hitman Mickey Bolden to kill Jordie after her brother had escaped the witness protection program. As Mickey attempted the murder of Jordie, his partner Shaw Kinnard killed him and kidnaped Jordie.
2. Why did Jordie's accomplishments and event planning business catch Billy Panella's interest?

Answer: Her talents were useful in his business.

Jordie was well known in the community as an upstanding citizen and event planner. She was a good hostess, and Billy Panella planned to use her reputation and talents to execute his cons and scams.
3. Why was it unusual for Jordie to be at the bar that she was kidnapped from?

Answer: Jordie was out of place at a backwater tavern with rough characters.

Jordie was attractive, refined, and well dressed. The bartender described her to the police as a local celebrity in their community, and said that she had never been there before.
4. Where did Shaw take Jordie after he kidnapped her?

Answer: A remote multipurpose garage

After Shaw kidnapped her, Jordie perceived that she was in a remote multipurpose garage because there was space and items for both boats and vehicles. Shaw let her see that they were in the bayou in the middle of nowhere, and told her that it would be futile to attempt escape. Nevertheless, Jordie continued to look for ways to defend and/or rescue herself.
5. Why did Jordie feel compelled to look after her brother Josh?

Answer: She blamed herself for his childhood accident.

When they were seven and five years old, they were fighting and Jordie pushed Josh. He accidentally fell into the lit fireplace, resulting in terrible burn scars, and Josh and their parents blamed Jordie. Despite therapy and an adult perspective, she still blamed herself.
6. Who were the FBI agents investigating Jordie's brother Josh?

Answer: Joe Wiley and Greg Hickam

Joe Wiley and Greg Hickam were very determined to sort out the circumstances of Jordie's kidnapping because her brother, Josh Bennett, a formerly cooperating witness against criminal Billy Panella, had escaped the witness protection plan. They felt his escape made the FBI look bad, as he reneged on his plea deal.
7. Why did Jordie think that Josh would do anything to avoid going to prison?

Answer: His back was scarred and he was embarassed.

After her abduction, the FBI questioned Jordie and wanted to know why her brother sounded scared and jumpy in his latest phone call. Jordie explained to the FBI that her brother was scared of being recaptured because prison was his worst nightmare due to the lack of privacy he would have to endure there. Jordie explained that her brother was pathologically self conscious about the burn scars from his childhood accident.
8. The FBI recognized Shaw as a known criminal when the bartender described his scar. Where did Shaw have a scar?

Answer: On the side of his chin

The bartender described Shaw's scar as a backwards C shape on the side of his chin. Shaw later admitted that he acquired the scar from Billy Panella's "knife guy." Shaw admitted that he killed the knife guy, but not before the knife guy got a swipe in.
9. What was significant about Billy Panella's voice?

Answer: He spoke through an electrolarynx.

Billy Panella spoke through an electrolarynx on the phone so his voice could not be identified during his criminal activities. Unfortunately, someone had been using an electrolarynx to impersonate him.
10. What did Jordie stab Shaw with?

Answer: An old broken rusty propeller

Jordie stabbed Shaw in the stomach with a broken propeller that she found in the old garage where he was keeping her. She believed that he was about to kill her as he had found the arrowheads that she had hidden. She had also heard Billy Panella agree to pay Shaw two million dollars to kill her.
