This is the first book to feature Lincoln Rhyme, we next meet him in the Coffin dancer and most recently, The Empty Chair (although he does make a chameo appearance in The Devils Teardrop). All of these are well worth a read.

Deaver has written many books which do not feature Lincoln Rhyme. However, I have always felt that this series is the best. Two others that are worth a read are The Devils Teardrop and A Maidens Grave. His earlier works are readable but he seems to be getting better with time.
