Jes despises Elspeth's misfit powers, and is worried about his own future when she is denounced. However, he is also a misfit, and is killed by soldierguards.

2. Which of Rushton's friends, mentioned at the end of 'Obernewtyn' does not become a guildleader?

Answer: Domick

Domick becomes the Coercer Ward. Roland becomes the Healer Guildmaster, Maryon becomes the Futureteller Guildmistress, and Alad becomes the Beastspeaker Guildmaster. This is one thing in the books that bugs me. Rushton says that he has never encountered anyone with Beastspeaking abilities, yet one of his friends is clearly almost as strong a beastspeaker as Elspeth.

3. Who is the first character to make some kind of reference to the fact that Rushton is in love with Elspeth?

Answer: Matthew

In 'Obernewtyn' Matthew says, "Maybe he's only interested in one of us" as a joke. The other three do eventually make some kind of comment about it, but Matthew is first.

The Black Dog is Brydda's nickname. The Good Egg is the inn Domick takes her to to meet Bryyda in "Ashling' which she doesn't think is a very good idea. "The last time I went into an inn looking for Brydda Llewellyn I was arrested." The Rag and Famish is a real pub.

This is one of the many romances in the 'Obernewtyn Chronicals' that end rather badly for all concerned.

A rebel is a rather interesting choice of friend for a Council spy trying to be inconspicuous. Then again, Domick does try to frighten them with his status as a Councilcourt employee, which does draw the attention of everyone in the room.

She is surprised to learn that Swallow is a person, and then angry when she meets him and finds out he is the gypsy man she already knew.

Elspeth and Matthew agree to take part in Brydda's plan to help catch Salamander. Unfortunately, it goes wrong and Matthew gets taken to the Land of the Red Queen, with Ariel on the same ship!

Elspeth and Matthew both blame themsleves for the coma. Kella says, "I wish the pair of you would stop fighting over who is to blame and listen when I say the coma might be a natural development"

Tardis's nickname is the White Lady. Brydda's is the Black Dog. Cassell's is never mentioned, but Malik is the only one Brydda says does not have a nickname, probably because his followers are afraid of him.

Answer: Swallow

Kasanda bonded with the Red Queen's brother. Swallow, along with all the other gypsies, is decended from Kasanda, and Dragon would have been the Red Queen if her mother hadn't been killed by her trusted friend, the gate keeper.

Answer: Dameon

Probably because he is in love with Elspeth and doesn't want to see her with Rushton.
