Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of the book, Betsy encountered Ben Sporco (known in life as the Driveway Killer) in Hell. What did he want from Betsy?

Answer: To be paroled from Hell

A lot of this scenario was told from Ben's point of view. He'd heard about the new devil considering a parole program, and he wanted to make his case for being a parolee. Betsy heard him out, but there was never any chance that a deranged serial killer would be released back into the world. Ben killed Cathie after abducting her from a Walmart parking lot.

He'd killed other women as well, but Cathie had been Betsy's first ghost pal (she'd seen a little girl ghost prior to befriending Cathie). Because he'd taken women from their driveways, and parking lots, he'd earned his own nickname in the media. Laura had been the one to kill Ben, way back in "Undead and Unwary".
2. Just before her first TV interview, Betsy met a woman named Carol who authored a book that Betsy loved. What was its title?

Answer: Smoothie Nation

Fans all know that Betsy loves shoes and smoothies. Liquids have been Betsy's only alternative to blood, which met her need to mindlessly consume. She even got her friends and family hooked on smoothies at the mansion. After Laura outed the vampires on YouTube, Betsy decided to own her truth (at least parts of it) on TV.

She was interviewed by Diana Pierce of KARE-11 news. Diana was a real journalist at this station when the book was released, as explained by Mary-Janice Davidson. Betsy met Carol in the 'non-literal' green room prior to her interview and made the woman feel at ease. Carol signed a copy of "Smoothie Nation" for Betsy and Sink Lair (Betsy was specific about the spelling of Eric's last name).
3. Jennifer Palmer became Betsy's first Hell parolee.

Answer: True

Back in the 1980s, a teenage Jennifer had accidentally killed her best friend Tammy. Afterward, another teen had been charged with the murder and served twelve years in prison for that crime. Jennifer had been unable to make herself confess her guilt, and also unable to live with it. So, she killed herself.

She didn't know it, but her suicide led her mother and the man charged with the murder to figure out what had actually happened. Betsy took her out of Hell, and Jennifer immediately set out to make things as right as she could.

She was a true Hell parolee success story.
4. Marc wanted to find out from Betsy if this musician was in Hell.

Answer: David Bowie

It was a truly reasonable question to ask, as Hell was full of people who simply believed they belonged there, even if they did not. That was one factor on arriving in a Hell based afterlife, and the other was how truly heinous one had been in life. Bowie was not in Hell, and Marc was both disappointed and relieved about that news.
5. Who arrived at the Sinclair house dock via swimming up the Mississippi River?

Answer: Fredrika Bimm

Dr. Fredrika "Fred" Bimm was a known mermaid to the world. About a year earlier, the Undersea Folk had been made known to humans in the story "Undead and Underwater", a novella. Fred was a hybrid, half human and half mermen. She'd had to kill her own mermen father to become ruler of the USF (Undersea Folk). Now that vampires had been exposed and Betsy was on TV, Fred arrived to have a meeting with the king and queen of the vampires.

The three incorrect choices are characters from the mind of author Charlaine Harris.
6. Who helped Ronald Tinsman plant a bomb in the Sinclair mansion?

Answer: Laura, the Antichrist

Ronald Tinsman was a reporter whose daughter Cindy had been killed by Betsy. Cindy had tricked her vampire mentor Lawrence into turning her into a vampire, but as a newborn she was out of control, and Betsy was forced to kill her. She and Lawrence were in Hell, but they were together. Ronald was described in the book as numb, corpse like, and the walking dead.

He was so consumed by the loss of his wife to cancer and then his daughter to vampires, that his only motivation was revenge against all of the supernatural creatures. Laura intended the bomb only as some kind of last resort, but Ronald had it rigged to blow up at a certain time. Will Mason found out about the bomb from the ghosts he could communicate with, and when he questioned Ronald and Laura, Ronald shot and killed him. Ronald also killed himself.
7. Who saved BabyJon from the fire at the mansion?

Answer: Lara Wyndham

The Wyndham werewolves had arrived before Dr. Bimm, to discuss the exposure situation. Lara was middle school aged, but scared of nothing and destined to be the next pack leader. She was the daughter of Michael and Jeannie Wyndham. After the bomb blew, a fire broke out in the mansion, and the basement caved in on the vampires, wolves, and Dr. Bimm, who were discussing their collective future. Betsy helped Lara out of the basement via a small window, and Lara returned to the house and saved BabyJon. Dick (formerly Nick) and Jessica Berry's twins could appear in the house at anytime, at any age, from their future timeline.

They both appeared in the book as non-infants, but were not there when the fire was ablaze.
8. Which creature came up with the idea to form a supernatural triad of leaders to speak to the human world?

Answer: Dr. Bimm

She proposed that Betsy, Michael, and herself serve as the leading faces of their respective supernatural classes. This conversation happened in the basement of the mansion just before the bomb detonated, and while Betsy was coaxing Marc into having a relationship with Will (ahem there must always be "priorities"). So, Betsy missed Fred's proposal and the ensuing agreement with said proposal among the committee. She was caught up on the details post mansion fire, Will's death, and the media being compelled to revise the incident in the mansion.

Jeannie Wyndham is human.
9. Was Will Mason given a second chance at life?

Answer: Yes

Though he was shot and killed by Ronald Tinsman, Betsy sneaked him off to Hell after she was sure her people had gotten safely out of the burning mansion. Once in Hell, Betsy turned him into a zombie. She swore she never knew how she'd turned Marc into a zombie, but the power had always been hers.

She saved Will, and he and Marc finally started their relationship. She had also magically transported Dr. Bimm, several Wyndham wolves, Sinclair, and Marc into Hell at the same as Will. Derik Wyndham had been especially impressed with Betsy's abilities- at long last. Betsy was never known to leave a great impression with the wolves.
10. In this fifteenth and final "Undead" novel, which event did *not* take place?

Answer: Betsy and Laura's father, John, died

Laura died in the aftermath of the bomb explosion at the mansion. She'd been swallowed up in a floor collapse, and when Betsy had the chance to find her, it was too late to save her. She could have whisked her away to Hell and made her a zombie, or possibly even turned her into a vampire, but Laura specifically asked her not to do so. Laura said she was sorry for what she'd done, and Betsy made sure she'd only ever go to a heavenly afterlife. Elizabeth Berry arrived, a college senior, and confirmed what Eric Berry (as a high school student days earlier) had insinuated. BabyJon was destined to take over as king one day, and that the twins' visits to the mansion from future timelines were to gather intel that aided Jon in his battles with evil. Cathie and Antonia "The Ant" Taylor had made a bet on why Marc was delaying a romance with Will Mason. Betsy informed them near the end of the story that Cathie had won the bet. That meant that the Ant had to give Betsy three compliments every time she encountered her in Hell. I believe the timeline for that was a hundred years. John Taylor did appear briefly in this story, but he lived. That being said, after Betsy's talk with young adult Elizabeth Berry, she decided that the next time she encountered her father would be the last time.
